What if Josh Grizzard doesn't mesh well with Baker Mayfield in 2025?
Baker Mayfield is coming off the best year of his career in the box score, though he would happily trade it in for a playoff run with the Bucs.
For the team in 2025, he is going to be tied once again to them having a make-or-break season, but ultimately, he could be the face of their worst-case scenario if you listen to Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine. He recently wrote about each team's worst-case scenario for the upcoming season and for the Bucs it centered around their Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and their new play caller.
He lays out a scenario that Bucs fans do not want to entertain: a Baker Mayfield regression.
He writes, "Mayfield has been on an upward trajectory since joining the Bucs in 2023, but it's worth noting that year-to-year consistency has been an issue for him. His Browns career was marred by his inability to be the best version of himself every year. Unfortunately, a lot of that could be tied to turbulent coaching situations. The Browns didn't give him a lot of stability, and he hasn't enjoyed much of it since then. On one hand, that means he's used to working with a new coach just about every year. On the other, there seems to be a pattern of Mayfield only performing well when he has a good coach orchestrating the offense. . ."
Grizzard being with the Bucs last season should increase his chances of being able to continue his success with Mayfield.
When you consider that he was his passing game coordinator in 2024, the continuity should be able to be found once again, even if it takes a few weeks with the new role. Not to mention, Jason Licht made sure that Mayfield had all of his weapons back, as well as giving him another in first-round pick, Emeka Egbuka.

Browns 2nd-Round Pick Makes Preseason All-Rookie Team

Browns 2nd-Round Pick Makes Preseason All-Rookie Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns had what many believe to be a successful NFL Draft this year, and the team upgraded several positions on defense. Advertisement Their first overall pick at No. 5, Mason Graham, is expected to be a Day 1 contributor in Cleveland and was named to the Preseason All-Rookie team. Now, his new teammate, and Browns second-round pick, Carson Schwesinger, has also been given that same honor. Gennaro Filice named his team earlier this week. "The first pick of the second round is one of the more interesting stories in this draft class. Schwesinger arrived at UCLA as a walk-on and didn't see much action beyond special teams during his first three years with the program," Filice wrote. "This past fall, though, he entered the starting lineup in the third week of the season and never looked back, earning first-team All-America honors after leading the nation with 90 solo tackles. Rangy and instinctive with skills to defend against the run or pass, Schwesinger fits the mold of the modern off-ball linebacker. Advertisement "And playing behind Cleveland's Myles Garrett-led front should keep the rookie pretty clean, allowing him to fly around the field and stuff the stat sheet." The Browns had a need of playmakers on offense, which makes the selection of Schwesinger all the more surprising. But it shows how high the linebacker was on their board. The big question mark surrounding starting linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah might've prompted the Browns to draft Schwesinger, as JOK's season ended prematurely last year after a neck injury and his return timetable is uncertain. Steelers' T.J. Watt Not ‘Petty' in Chase for Myles Garrett-Level Contract

Steelers' T.J. Watt Not 'Petty' in Chase for Myles Garrett-Level Contract originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ever since being drafted in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt has found himself in hot pursuit of that class' No. 1 pick, Myles Garrett. Advertisement The two ended up going sack-for-sack over their first two seasons. The Cleveland Browns star was the first to make an All-Pro team. Watt was named a first-team selection each of the next three years. Watt was the first (and only) of the two to find 20 sacks in a season, the first to win Defensive Player of the Year, and the first to 100 sacks. Yet, the best edge rusher in football resides in Cleveland, and he was recently paid like it. Garrett attempted to muscle his way out of Cleveland in the offseason before being signed to a four-year, $160 million that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the sport – until Cincinnati Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase topped him weeks later. Advertisement Now, as Watt enters a contract year and makes his extension requests public, the question comes up … What does Watt want? CBS Sports' Aditi Kinkhabwala is refuting the notion that he wants to top Garrett. She told 93.7 The Fan that Watt "is not that petty" and isn't trying to land more than Garrett. 'I got asked that, too," Kinkhabwala said. "'Oh, is T.J. Watt's whole contract situation being held up by Myles Garrett?' And my response to that is T.J. Watt is not that petty. This is not about, "Oh, I need one penny more than Myles Garrett." Watt this offseason took to Instagram to post a picture of himself giving a peace sign, thrusting Steelers fans into a panic. Pittsburgh is incentivized to keep Watt, a franchise icon, around forever. Watt made comments early in the offseason about wanting to be in Western Pennsylvania forever. Advertisement 'Petty'? Maybe not. But Garrett has set the bar for Watt. It's up to the Steelers to meet it or come close enough to appease their star. The fact that Myles Garrett got $40 million per year sets a bar for T.J. Watt … and for Dallas pass-rusher Micah Parsons, in the same class as a producer and also due an extension. Pittsburgh has some reasons to be hesitant in meeting Garrett's deal. Watt is entering his age-31 season, posted his fewest sacks in a healthy season since 2017 (11.5), and he plays a position that doesn't age well. Given the team's proclivity for the status quo and the edge rusher's immense talent, keeping Watt around – no matter the price – still feels more likely than not. Advertisement But there's nothing 'petty' about pushing toward Garrett's dollars. Eric Mangini defends Shedeur Sanders after speeding incidents with

Eric Mangini isn't racing to condemn Shedeur Sanders after a couple of speeding tickets. The former Browns head coach downplayed the significance of Sanders getting cited twice for speeding – once for driving 91 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone and once for going 101 in a 60 – during the rookie quarterback's first two months in Cleveland. 'I don't love it from a fifth-round draft pick,' Mangini said during a Friday appearance on 'The Herd' with Colin Cowherd on FS1. 'I don't love that it's happened multiple times. 'I do think this is the first time he's away from his dad and there's going to be some growing pains. Would I sell my stock on it like you are? No, because of a couple speeding tickets — especially in the light of the problems the Browns quarterback room had had to deal with legally in the last few years — this is nothing.' It is easy to write it off as 'nothing' because no one was seriously injured in either incident. But speeding, when it leads to accidents and injuries, takes on another narrative. The Browns have addressed the incident internally with Sanders and he is 'taking care of the tickets,' according to a report. Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders (12) listens to a play call during mini camp at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect 'I've made some wrong choices personally, I can own up to them,' Sanders said when asked about his speeding tickets this week. 'I made some not great choices. I learn from them. I learned.' Sanders grew up in the spotlight as Hall of Famer Deion Sanders' son and played under his dad's coaching at Jackson State and Colorado. He became a lightning rod during the NFL draft when he slipped from a projected first-round pick to a fifth-round selection who reportedly was No. 4 on the Browns' quarterback depth chart – behind Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and rookie third-rounder Dillon Gabriel – during spring workouts. 'This is, in fairness to Shedeur, the first time he's been outside his dad's overview, his dad's house,' Mangini said. 'I think he was his high school, then his college coach … This is like any kid who's away from home for the first time. There's going to be a couple hiccups here and there.' Eric Mangini downplayed Shedeur Sanders' speeding incidents. The Herd/X Mangini went 10-22 as Browns head coach in 2009-10, with Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, Seneca Wallace, Jake Delhomme and Colt McCoy as his quarterbacks. Since then, the Browns have dealt with Johnny Maziel — who was cut after substance-abuse issues and a domestic violence arrest — and Deshaun Watson, who was suspended by the NFL for the first 11 games after he was acquired in a trade from the Texans due to allegations of sexual misconduct raised by about two dozen massage therapists. Watson, who remains on the Browns roster but could miss the full season due to injury, was cleared by a grand jury and settled most of the civil lawsuits against him.
