UAE ranks 1st regionally, 15th globally in UN Human Development Index

The UAE has maintained its leading position among countries with 'very high human development', climbing 11 spots globally compared to its 2021–2022 ranking, in the 2025 Human Development Index (HDI) report issued by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The UAE ranked 15th globally out of 193 countries covered by the report, outperforming nations including Canada, the US, Japan, Australia, and Korea. It remains the only Arab country in the top 20 — a distinction reflecting its commitment to a comprehensive development vision that prioritises human wellbeing. The country's approach integrates healthcare, education, and quality of life, positioning it as a global model for sustainability and human capital development.The 2025 Human Development Report, 'A matter of choice: People and possibilities in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)', gave the UAE an HDI score of 0.94.The UAE scored high on all four main indicators. Life expectancy at birth in the UAE reached 82.9 years, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 on Good Health and Well-being. Expected years of schooling stood at 15.6, and Average years of schooling at 13, supporting SGD 4 on quality education. Gross national income per capita reached $71.142, contributing to SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth.Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, said the UAE's leading position reflects its sustained investment in a world-class healthcare system that promotes innovation and ensures high-quality services, aligned with the country's long-term vision for a healthy and sustainable future.Sara bint Yousef Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education, stressed that education has always been central to the UAE's development strategy. She highlighted the adoption of adaptive, forward-looking education policies designed to prepare future generations for competitiveness and innovation, particularly in fields such as artificial intelligence.Hanan Mansour Ahli, Managing Director of the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, noted that the UAE's human-centric development model leverages healthcare, education, and innovation as pillars for a prosperous and inclusive future. She said the country's rise in the HDI rankings demonstrates proactive and future-ready policymaking that prioritises human wellbeing alongside economic growth.The report underscored the growing impact of AI on human development, warning of widening gaps between high- and low-development countries, and calling for flexible, human-focused strategies in healthcare, education, and living standards. It emphasised that human capital remains key in the digital age.The UAE also ranked third globally in net migration of AI-skilled professionals in 2023, based on LinkedIn data — underscoring its appeal as a global hub for AI talent.
The report noted that high-income countries like the UAE are net beneficiaries of specialised talent, while lower-income nations face losses. It called for a cooperative digital economy where humans and AI work in tandem, with a focus on empowering people through knowledge and technology for inclusive and sustainable growth.

She underscored the benefits of combining physical activity with a balanced diet and weight loss to enhance treatment also highlighted rapid advances in immunotherapy, particularly in antibody-drug conjugates and immune checkpoint inhibitors, which are now being used in new therapeutic indications and earlier stages of the subject of precision medicine, Gralow explained that the approach aims to identify molecular mutations that transform cells into cancerous forms and to develop treatments that precisely target those mutations. UAE, Republic of Korea explore prospects for medical cooperation in radiation oncology

In his remarks, he cited statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO), highlighting that more than 20 million people around the world are diagnosed with cancer each year, and 10 million lives are lost to the disease said that the number of cancer cases is projected to surpass 35 million per year within the next 25 years. 'Cancer, one of the greatest threats to humanity, remains a leading cause of death in both Korea and the UAE. Medical professionals in both countries are working on the task of curing cancer,' he stressed that this alarming figure underscores the need for unified scientific and medical efforts between the two countries to confront this shared global health indicated, "Korea is actively applying world-class advanced radiation technologies in clinical practice, including proton therapy and carbon ion therapy, which are the focus of today's event. I understand that the UAE is also making significant efforts to guarantee a healthy life free from the burden of cancer as demonstrated by its recent decision to introduce carbon ion accelerator facility."He also highlighted the depth of the strategic partnership between the Republic of Korea and the UAE, which began with the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant project in 2009. "Korea and the UAE have built a multifaceted partnership. I hope that the strong partnership between the two countries, which has been steadily solidified in the four key sectors of nuclear, energy, defence, and investment, will continue to expand into the healthcare sector as well," he concluded.

UAE evacuates critically injured Palestinian child from Gaza for treatment

Tragically, the attack also claimed the lives of his entire family, leaving the child to battle both physical and emotional trauma alone, in an ordeal that mirrors the suffering of thousands of children in Gaza Abdulqader Almessabi, Chief Medical Officer at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, confirmed that the child arrived at the hospital on June 12, 2025 under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. He stated that a comprehensive treatment plan was promptly implemented, and the child has shown significant improvement since beginning urgent evacuation underscores the UAE's continued efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with a focus on providing medical and relief support to the most vulnerable, especially children and evacuation was carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the child's safety throughout the journey and during his transfer to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City for specialised care.
