Karnataka Weather: Rain, Thunderstorm Alert In Bengaluru, Other Cities Till May 6
The weather department has forecast moderate rain and thunderstorms in parts of Karnataka during peak summer. In its forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said a cyclonic circulation has formed in Bay of Bengal and is moving towards Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which will lead to rain in multiple districts such as Bengaluru rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Tumkur, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Bellary, Chitradurga and Mandya.
The rain and accompanying thunderstorm is expected till May 6, the IMD further said in its forecast.
The seven-day prediction gives a snapshot of expected weather phenomenon in various regions of Karnataka. The IMD says that light rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places over Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on Thursday, May 1. The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 24 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The weather department also said that light to moderate rain is expected in the coming week in Bengaluru city, Belagavaim, Dharwad, Bidar etc.
Weather Forecast For Bengaluru
The IMD said that the city is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with light rain, thundershowers and gusty wind till May 2. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a cautionary outlook for the month of May, warning of above-normal temperatures and a likely rise in heatwave occurrences across several regions across the country.
While northern India is likely to receive above-average rainfall, other parts - especially the northwest, central, and northeast - may experience drier-than-usual conditions, IMD's Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Maximum daily temperatures across India were the eighth highest ever recorded for April, while minimum temperatures ranked ninth highest. Most regions in northwest, central and northeast India recorded normal to above-normal daytime temperatures, and some areas in the peninsular and east-central regions avoided the worst of the heat.

Monsoon hits Himachal early; IMD warns of rain in Delhi, Maharashtra, Jharkhand
The southwest monsoon has arrived in some parts of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, more parts of Rajasthan and Punjab, parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, as well as the remaining areas of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu during the next two days, news agency ANI reported. The monsoon arrived early—five days ahead of its normal onset date of June 25 in Himachal Pradesh—and is expected to cover the entire hill state by Wednesday (June 25). With the early arrival, several parts of the state have already received rainfall, and the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains across Himachal over the next 5 to 7 days. Speaking to news agency ANI, Shobhit Katiyar, Senior Scientist at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shimla, said, "On June 20, 2025, the southwest monsoon entered Himachal Pradesh. It has already covered districts like Kinnaur, Kullu, Sirmaur, Mandi, Lahaul-Spiti, and Shimla. The remaining districts will be covered by the monsoon in the next 2 to 3 days." "Usually, the monsoon arrives in Himachal by June 25, and in Shimla city by June 22. This year's arrival is a few days earlier, which is still considered within the normal range," he added. Meanwhile, the national capital is likely to witness light rain accompanied by strong surface winds, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD. The weather agency has also issued a fresh warning for very heavy rainfall over isolated areas of northwestern Jharkhand, with heavy rain expected in parts of north-central and northeastern districts over the next few days. Mumbai and many parts of Maharashtra are likely to see more intense monsoon rains from June 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said. Yellow and orange alerts have been issued for several districts. Mumbai is already dealing with waterlogging and traffic jams, and the coming showers may make things worse. The showers are expected to bring the maximum temperature down to 35–37 degrees Celsius, with the minimum likely to hover around 27–29 degrees Celsius. The air quality of the national capital continues to show improvement on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) slipping into the 'satisfactory' category after remaining 'poor' for several days. According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) is expected on Monday in Delhi. The maximum temperature is expected to be maximum 34 degree celsius whereas the minimum is predicted to be 27 degree celsius. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for eight states, warning of intense rainfall activity. The alert covers Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh. The weather department had previously forecasted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall" in Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan-Goa region on June 21, with the spell of wet weather expected to persist from June 21 to June 26. 'Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, more areas of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Jammu & Kashmir–Gilgit-Baltistan–Muzaffarabad and Ladakh during the next two days," the IMD said.
