IMD forecasts heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in Delhi on Sunday, lowering temperatures. AQI improves to 'satisfactory'. Orange alert issued for eight states.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall for the national capital on Sunday. Delhi is likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning along with rain during the afternoon hours.
This week, the national capital experienced mixed weather conditions, including heavy rainfall to humid weather.
The showers are expected to bring the maximum temperature down to 35–37 degrees Celsius, with the minimum likely to hover around 27–29 degrees Celsius.
The air quality of the national capital continues to show improvement on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) slipping into the 'satisfactory' category after remaining 'poor' for several days.
According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) is expected on Monday in Delhi. The maximum temperature is expected to be maximum 34 degree celsius whereas the minimum is predicted to be 27 degree celsius.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for eight states, warning of intense rainfall activity. The alert covers Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department had previously forecasted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall" in Northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the Konkan-Goa region on June 21, with the spell of wet weather expected to persist from June 21 to June 26.
'Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into the remaining parts of North Arabian Sea, more areas of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and some parts of Jammu & Kashmir–Gilgit-Baltistan–Muzaffarabad and Ladakh during the next two days," the IMD said.

1 2 Jaipur: Heavy to moderate rainfall occurred in many places in the state Sunday. Mount Abu received 190mm of rainfall, highest in the state. Jaipur received mild to moderate showers in evening. Since the arrival of southwest monsoon in the state, average rainfall received has been 57.13mm compared to 27.27mm received till June 22, 2024. "This rainfall is almost 109% higher compared to 2024," said a Met officer. Heavy rainfall at Mount Abu and Sirohi affected normal life as tourists visiting the hill station remained confined to their hotels. Also, the highway connectivity Abu Road to Gujarat was affected due to heavy flow of water on the roads. Jaipur saw a bright sunny day followed by showers in the evening. A maximum temperature of 35.7 degrees Celsius was recorded. In its forecast for the next week, the Met office said various places in Kota, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, and Jaipur divisions are likely to get showers. In western Rajasthan, many places in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are likely to get showers, it said.
