PDRM's Terrorism Response Garners Global Recognition
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) capability in tackling terrorism threats has not only been recognised at the regional level but also by global powers such as the United States, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said this was evident in the trust placed by the US in PDRM's expertise to carry out the rehabilitation of two Malaysian detainees previously held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
'This shows that in this particular case, the PDRM's Special Branch possesses expertise and competence that convinced a major power like the United States.
'It means we can stand as equals in efforts to address terrorism threats so they do not pose a danger within our own country,' he said during the handover ceremony of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) post at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today.
Media reports previously stated that the US had repatriated two Malaysian citizens in December 2024, after they had been detained at Guantanamo Bay for 18 years.
The two individuals involved, Mohammed Farik Amin, 49, and Mohammed Nazir Lep, 48, are currently undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation process that includes social support services, welfare assistance, and health screening before being reunited with their families.
Saifuddin said it was crucial for the country to have a capable IGP, such as the 14th IGP Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who played a key role in the repatriation of the two men.
He praised Razarudin's composure when engaging with various US agencies, including the CIA and FBI, in resolving the matter.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin stressed that the appointment of an IGP was not an award but a responsibility and burden that must be shouldered with full accountability.

Police Probe AI-Manipulated Viral Video Featuring Former IGP
SHAH ALAM, June 21 (Bernama) -- The police are investigating a viral video showing an individual resembling former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah, allegedly linked to the receipt of financial aid from a person with the title 'Datuk'. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the video, which began circulating on the TikTok social media platform on June 20, was fake and had been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. 'The video, which purportedly links the former police chief to the receipt of financial assistance from an individual named Datuk Abdul Ghani, and that the money had been deposited into a bank account, is completely untrue and baseless. 'The Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters stresses that the 13th Inspector-General of Police never issued any statement as depicted in the video,' he said in a statement today. Hussein said Acryl Sani had lodged a police report denying that the video contained any official statement from him. He also advised the public not to share the video and urged them to verify the authenticity of any content before believing or disseminating it on social media. 'Selangor police take seriously the misuse of technology, such as AI, for the purpose of fraud or slander that could damage the reputation of any party. Firm action will be taken against those involved in spreading this fake content,' he said. Palestine Embassy Condemns Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The Palestine Embassy in Malaysia has condemned the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), describing the aid distribution initiative as a veiled operation that further endangered innocent aid seekers in the enclave. First Secretary of Embassy Amjad Khamaysa said the US and Israel-backed entity undermined genuine humanitarian efforts and worsen the oppression of Palestinians suffering under the regime's brutality. "They (Israel) don't allow humanitarian access to Gaza and they are establishing this Gaza Humanitarian institution. Since May 7, Israel has been bypassing UN and international relief organisations by distributing limited aid through the GHF, which was rejected by the UN. According to Anadolu Ajansi, Palestinians seeking aid through this mechanism have become daily targets of Israeli fire, resulting in many casualties. Amjad said the embassy will continue to engage with the public to raise awareness and solidarity against the regime's ongoing genocide on Palestine and its people through various channels, including through cooperation with Malaysian civil societies and the digital sphere. Over 55,000 people in Gaza – mostly women and children – have been killed since Israel launched its aggression on October 7, 2023.
