Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster 'held responsible' for 'collapse' of star's proposal
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Sir Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster have humorously been accused of ruining a Heart Radio presenter's engagement plans. The couple celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary this week, by hopping on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express to revisit the spots where they got engaged, tied the knot, and honeymooned. Back in 2005, after six years of dating, Rod proposed to Loose Women's Penny at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. They exchanged vows two years later Portofino, Italy, which was followed by a luxury yacht-based honeymoon off the coast. On Heart Radio's Breakfast Show on Friday, Jamie Theakston light-heartedly blamed Rod for derailing his own proposal plan to his now wife Sophie. Shortly after the singer's engagement was announced, Jamie remembered him and his then girlfriend being on their way to Paris by train, whom he planned to propose to. (Image: INSTAGRAM/PENNYLANCASTER) Speaking to his co-stars Amanda Holden and Ashley Roberts, he said he envisioned proposing at the Eiffel Tower, just like Rod did. "I thought the Eiffel Tower might be romantic, at the Eiffel Tower, on one knee, pop the question, job done," he shared. "It was a beautiful weekend, the sun was shining, we'd been to Paris a couple of times before, so it was a special place." Jamie went on to say that he was already "nervous" about the engagement ring through customs without Sophie noticing, which he thankfully managed to pull off. What happened next however forced him to reconsider his proposal strategy. He explained: "Anyway, she's reading a copy of Hello! Magazine, she goes, 'OMG. Do you know Rod Stewart has just got engaged to Penny Lancaster?' I said, 'Oh, really?' "She said, 'How naff is this, they did it in Paris on the Eiffel Tower'." (Image: INSTAGRAM/JAMIETHEAKSTON) After Amanda and Ashley expressed shock, he went on to say he contemplated abandoning the plan entirely. Later on in their trip, he chose to instead propose in a more intimate setting, their hotel room. "It wasn't as special as it might've been. So essentially, I hold Rod and Penny personally responsible for the complete collapse of my wedding proposal," he quipped. Despite the proposal not going exactly as planned, the most important thing was that Sophie happily said "yes". They later exchanged vows in Ditchling, Sussex and went on to become parents to two sons; Sidney, 17, and Kit, 16. As for Rod, Penny is his third wife and they have also two sons together; Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14. The Maggie May singer is a father to eight children in total, including; Sarah, 61, Kimberly, 45, Sean, 44, Ruby, 38, Renee, 33, Liam, 30. Before Penny, he was married to Alana Stewart from 1979 to 1984, followed by Rachel Hunter from 1990 to 2006.

Cornwall Yeliz Misirli, jewellery expert at Glamira, comments: 'While London, Edinburgh and Manchester all appear in this list, with couples heading to both the English and Scottish capital in huge numbers, it's clear to see that a lot of people are also choosing the countryside as the place for their special day. This might often take place on a weekend trip or staycation, as some of these places seem to attract a lot of interest compared to their population size. 'Here are my top tips for travelling with an engagement ring, if you're planning to propose on your next trip. If you want to keep the proposal and the ring a surprise, you can hide a ring box easily inside a pair of socks – if the ring comes in a soft bag it's even easier, and your sunglasses case could be perfect.'

BBC Race Across the World Sioned and Fin share relationship update after 'challenging' time
Race Across the World stars Sioned and Fin were the youngest contestants on this year's series and they struggled through some parts of the show as a couple Race Across the World came to a nailbiting finish last week as the winners of this year's series were crowned. Mother and son duo Caroline and Tom Bridge came out on top, beating the other three teams and taking home the £20,000 prize. Despite a slow beginning and almost being knocked out of the competition before Yin and Gaz were sent packing, their luck changed as the race went on and they were the first ones to open that book at the final checkpoint in Kanyakumari, India. Hot on their heels were sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, who finished just 19 minutes behind them in second place on the BBC show. They were followed by young couple Sioned and Fin and finally, by brothers Brian and Melvyn who had secured a strong lead in the race but fell behind in the final two legs. Throughout the race, viewers saw each duo have their limits tested to the max, with teenage couple, Sioned and Fin, who were the youngest on the race, finding certain legs of the race very challenging. In this week's Race Across the World reunion episode, the Welsh couple gave an update on their relationship status now as they detailed their time on the show, Plymouth Live reports. Sioned said: "I think there were many times in India where I thought, 'I can't do this, I need to go home, not want to but I need to because this is too much'. "But, I'm really glad I just stuck it out because experiencing it has been really valuable." While at the table with the other contestants from the series, the now 20 year old said that taking part in the show has built her character. She said: "It's built us as people. It's tough doing something like this in a relationship, but I do think it made us stronger." Fin added: "It was a good way to see if we can do it forever, or this isn't for us, let's split up. But that wasn't the case, we are still together, and we're going well. I think that was a big challenge and the best challenge we could've had together." Although Sioned and Fin didn't win the show, fans were pleased to see the mother and son duo come in first place. Speaking about their win, mum Caroline said: "It feels absolutely amazing, I'm so sad it's come to the end, that is the worst bit about it. We've enjoyed being with everybody, but my God, this race has meant so much. "We've learnt so much, we've enjoyed it, and to actually win it as well as to have the experience is the best thing that could have happened to us. Tom, 21, added: "Doing the experience in itself is winning, but to actually get to that book first, open it, and see that it was empty was something that I'll remember for the rest of my life."
