MP govt promotes rural tourism with new homestays partnerships and recognition for achievements
Bhopal: Highlighting the importance of rural tourism, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday said that tourism in villages generates local jobs for young people while showcasing cultural heritage, festivities, and local food internationally.
He was addressing the 'Grameen Rang - Paryatan Sang' state event at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium.
He said that expanding homestay network in the state exemplifies "Atithi Devo Bhava." The govt works alongside homestay operators, with support from Panchayat and Rural Development and Tribal Affairs departments, to ensure visitors receive outstanding service, he said.
Yadav discussed India's pilgrimage heritage, observing that whilst foreign visitors seek recreational activities, Indians undertake spiritual journeys like the Char Dham Yatra, maintaining Sanatan cultural traditions and discovering regional customs.
The CM explored the rural tourism display, engaged with district representatives, and participated in clay artistry. He introduced a microsite for the Responsible Tourism Mission to enhance rural tourism and digital homestay reservations, offering visitors detailed information about rural experiences. He also virtually launched 241 village homestays.

MPTB partnered with Patanjali's Divya Yog Mandir Trust for rural development and tourism infrastructure, with Principal Secretary Sheo Shekhar Shukla and Patanjali's scientific advisors as signatories. MPTB joined forces with Signify Innovations India Ltd. for energy-efficient lighting in tourist villages. Further collaborations were formed with Scope Global Skills University for tourism development and skill enhancement, and between MPTB and MPSTDC for digital integration of rural homestays.
Yadav announced forthcoming helicopter services through the State Tourism Board. A wellness summit is scheduled to enhance tourist services, incorporating wildlife, religious, and healthcare tourism. He emphasised developing innovative promotional approaches to establish Madhya Pradesh as a worldwide tourism destination.
Ten district collectors received recognition for achieving homestay targets.
The CM commended representatives from 16 village panchayats and institutions for their contributions to rural tourism, interacting with homestay operators from various districts. Tourist visits increased by 526% in 2024 compared to 2020. Notable growth was seen at Kanha, Pench, and Bandhavgarh, amongst India's leading national parks.
The state ranks first in tiger population and wildlife diversity. The 241 new homestays near tourist spots provide authentic rural experiences, including local cuisine and cultural activities.
Madhya Pradesh targets establishing 1,000 homestays statewide. Tourism Minister Shri Dharmendra Bhavsingh Lodhi reported over 134.1 million tourist visits last year. Under CM Dr Yadav, 241 homestays were established across 121 villages. Villages from Panna (Madla), Niwari (Ladpura Khas), and Sidhi (Khas) earned national recognition as premier tourism villages.
Principal Secretary Sheo Shekhar Shukla detailed the Responsible Tourism Mission's achievements. MP Tourism Corporation trained 10,000 women in hospitality. Self-help groups and artisans create handicrafts purchased by tourists and hotels nationwide. Tourist locations are receiving Divyang facilities, supported by CSR funds.
CM Dr Yadav viewed exhibitions featuring traditional crafts including clay art, Mandna, Chitera, bamboo crafts, hand block printing, Gond paintings, and textiles, engaging with artisans.

Ten students from Bulandshahr's Sakhni village in UP have been unreachable since the recent missile strikes in Iran. Among them is 22-year-old Sadaf Zehra, a third-year MBBS student at Tehran University. Her father, Zia-ul-Hassan, said, "She said she was fine, then her phone went off. The next day she called and said the university had moved them to a safer location three hours away." Azhar Abbas, another student, survived a missile strike that claimed five of his classmates. "We spoke to him in a video call three days ago," said his uncle, Muzammil Abbas. "Since then, there has been no contact." Abbasi Beghum, 60, experienced dangerous blood pressure levels upon hearing about the attacks. "I lost my husband three years ago. I worked hard to send my son abroad." Across UP, numerous families face similar situations. Several pilgrims from Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Meerut were stranded in Iran, including 28 pilgrims from Lucknow, amongst them 83-year-old Kaneez Haider. The group had departed for Iraq on May 27 and entered Iran on June 9, planning to visit Karbala, Mashhad, Tehran, Nishapur and Kashan. Many had initially completed Haj, concluding with Eid on Monday, before proceeding to Iran - a typical route for Shia pilgrims visiting religious shrines. Tour operator Aqeel Jafar Rizvi of Mehndi Tours and Travels reported over 1,000 pilgrims from Lucknow in Iran, many experiencing financial difficulties and limited medicine access. Families in Kithaur's Isapur area of Meerut confirmed 11 additional pilgrims, including families with children, remain stranded.

I-T Dept's data analysis has nudged taxpayers to declare ₹30,298 crore of foreign assets, income
The Income Tax Department's efforts to match data obtained from other countries, including Switzerland, with income tax returns (ITRs) filed in India has resulted in taxpayers reporting additional foreign assets worth ₹29,208 crore and additional foreign income of ₹1,089.88 crore, the government said. In a statement issued on Friday evening, the Ministry of Finance also sought to address some allegations on social media that the black money of Indians stored in Swiss banks had ballooned. 'Some media reports have suggested that money deposited in bank accounts of Indian entities in Switzerland has increased,' the statement noted. 'It is reported that the data pertains to different types of funds, including deposits from enterprises, banks and individuals.' It added that Switzerland has been providing India annual financial information about Indian residents under the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) agreement signed by the two countries. The first such data transmission was in 2019 and has 'continued regularly' since then, 'covering even those accounts suspected of involvement in financial irregularities'. On the basis of such information received from other countries, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) undertakes a review of the data and identifies taxpayers whose cases require 'further verification', the statement added. 'For AY 2024-25 (FY 2023-24), CBDT compared the data shared under AEOI with the information about foreign assets and income filed in the ITRs by the taxpayers, for the purpose of verification,' the statement said. 'The analysis covered all jurisdictions, including Switzerland.' Following this, SMSs and emails were sent to various taxpayers whose foreign assets and incomes were not reported in the correct schedules of the ITRs asking them to review their returns. 'As a result, a total of 24,678 taxpayers reviewed their ITRs and 5,483 taxpayers filed their belated return for the A.Y.2024-25, reporting foreign assets valuing to Rs. 29,208 crores and additional income of Rs.1,089.88 crores as foreign income,' the statement said. 'Suitable action under the extant provision of law is under consideration for non-responsive taxpayers,' it added.

China, Pakistan, Bangladesh hold inaugural trilateral ministerial meet
China, Pakistan and Bangladesh have agreed to advance cooperation based on the principles of good-neighbourliness, equality and mutual trust at the inaugural trilateral meeting of their foreign ministry officials. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong , Bangladeshi Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique and Additional Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Imran Ahmed Siddiqui attended the meeting held at the Chinese city of Kunming, capital of Southern Yunnan province, where China is holding its annual South Asia expo. In his address, Sun Weidong said Bangladesh and Pakistan are both good neighbours, good friends, and good partners of China, and important partners in high quality Belt and Road cooperation, the Foreign Ministry's press release said. Live Events Cooperation among China, Pakistan and Bangladesh aligns with the common interests of the three people, and can contribute to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity, Sun who was a former Ambassador to Pakistan and India, said. The three sides exchanged views extensively on China-Pakistan-Bangladesh trilateral cooperation and agreed to establish a working group to follow up and implement the understandings reached during the meeting, the press release said. They also emphasised that China-Bangladesh-Pakistan cooperation adheres to true multilateralism and open regionalism, not directed at any third party, it added. Thursday's trilateral mechanism comes in the backdrop of Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, who took charge after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government last year, warming up to China and seeking Beijing's assistance on various fronts, in an apparent efforts to reduce his country's dependence on India. Yunus has also sought to establish close ties with Pakistan, reviving for the first-time Bangladesh's links with Pakistan after the separation following the 1971 war. The Chinese press release said the three countries have agreed to advance trilateral cooperation based on the principles of good-neighbourliness, equality and mutual trust, openness and inclusiveness, common development, and win-win cooperation during the meeting in Kunming. The trilateral cooperation focuses on promoting economic development and improving people's livelihoods. The three sides agreed to explore and implement cooperation projects in such areas as industry, trade, maritime affairs, water resources, climate change, agriculture, human resources, think tanks, health, education, culture, and youth, it said. In Kunming, Sun also called on Haji Mawlawi Abdul Salam Hanafi, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of the interim government of Afghan, and held bilateral meetings with Ruhul Alam Siddique and Imran Ahmed Siddiqui. A Pakistan Foreign Ministry press release said Baloch commended the Chinese side for convening the inaugural meeting of the trilateral mechanism. Noting the common aspirations of the three sides for people-centric development, she expressed Pakistan's desire for a deeper engagement between China and South Asian countries. Expressing satisfaction at the upward trajectory of bilateral ties, she conveyed Pakistan's readiness to work with China and Bangladesh to enhance ties in trade and investment, agriculture, digital economy, environment protection, marine sciences, green infrastructure, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges. The three sides agreed that trilateral cooperation would be guided by the principles of openness, inclusivity, good neighbourliness, mutual respect and trust, while working towards win-win cooperation, it said.
