Schottenheimer Reaches Out to Cowboys Legends To 'Celebrate Tradition' originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer is doing all he can to instill what he hopes will be the best culture in all of professional sports.

And he's off to a great start.
As OTAs continue, Schotty invited several former players for a Cowboys Legends day, where they could sit in on team meetings and watch practice while engaging with their younger counterparts.
Michael Irvin and Tony Casillas both had glowing reviews regarding what they saw with the energy and vibe, completely different from previous years, and it left both thinking that maybe something special could be brewing at The Star.
'It was one of my favorite days of the offseason,' Schottenheimer said. 'I think we had over 25 guys that came and attended, we wanted to open up the team meeting for them, we wanted them to see our energy, our juice, the way we like to operate. To celebrate those guys, to make them feel welcome, is too easy. They're part of our family.

'More than anything it was a chance to bring them back, watch them be celebrated but to begin to develop the relationship and I want those guys to know they're always welcome and there's a place for them to celebrate the tradition.'
We know that Schottenheimer is very family-oriented, and this is another example.
Connecting the past and present so both can come together and help forge something special. Yes, we get it, it was OTAs, but it is those little things that add up over time in creating the kind of culture Schotty wants.
Irvin, Jimmy and Emmitt
Irvin and Casillas both mentioned how Schottenheimer was driving his program and how well the players responded to it, both when things were going well and when they weren't.

It appears that Schotty wants to keep the line of communication between the past and present open. The winds of change are blowing through The Star, and based on the reviews, not only did the former players like it, but Schottenheimer and his team did too.

49ers 3rd-Round Rookie Linebacker Suffers Fracture

49ers 3rd-Round Rookie Linebacker Suffers Fracture originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco 49ers have suffered an offseason injury as rookie linebacker Nick Martin fractured his thumb while lifting weights, as reported by Noah Furtado of the San Francisco Chronicle. Advertisement Early reports were that it was a recent injury, but Furtado clarified the situation on his X account. "Regarding rumors that #49ers third-round LB Nick Martin broke his thumb, he suffered a minor fracture a few weeks ago but did not miss any subsequent practices or workouts, per source. Martin won't need surgery and is expected to be fully healthy by training camp." It's notable that the thumb injury never sidelined Martin and he never missed any offseason practice time. He's expected to be fully ready for the beginning of training camp. The 22-year-old missed seven games of his final season at Oklahoma State with a knee injury, but he's expected to be a contributor in his rookie season after the 49ers drafted him in the third round with the No. 75 overall pick. Advertisement Martin's pick wasn't a surprise, as the team needed to address defense in the draft. Martin was a First-Team All-Big 12 standout who posted 140 tackles with 16 for loss last season, and should have an opportunity to crack the starting lineup early, as San Francisco doesn't have a ton of seasoned veterans at outside linebacker other than Fred Warner. If Martin proves he's healthy, he'll be fighting for playing time with Dee Winters, Tatum Bethune and others. But first, he could have to impress on special teams for defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Matthew Golden Earns Comparison to Former Packers Star Davante Adams

Matthew Golden Earns Comparison to Former Packers Star Davante Adams originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Green Bay Packers rookie Matthew Golden appears ready to receive a major contributing role in his debut, especially with the team's current injury situation. Fellow receiver Christian Watson is continuing his recovery from the torn ACL he suffered in January. Advertisement The No. 23 pick out of Texas has already displayed his impressive speed and talents during college and pre-draft workouts. He's also participated in Packers minicamp, as he gets to know his teammates, including quarterback Jordan Love, on the field. With the season still weeks away, it allows for those popular early comparisons to occur. Most of the rookies in the first round are getting compared to other NFL stars, including Golden. For Golden, he received high praise, drawing comparisons to former Packers receiver Davante Adams. Advertisement Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler, with two of those coming during two seasons in Green Bay. Now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, Adams continues to rack up stats and achieve accolades that should put him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In his career, he's achieved over 100 touchdowns and nearly 12,000 receiving yards on 957 receptions. According to Pro Football Reference, his receiving yards total currently has him ranked at No. 33 amongst all receivers, past and present. Rang contends that Golden appears to be the type of player who will provide Green Bay a suitable replacement for Adams. At March's NFL Draft Combine, he recorded 4.29-second speed in the 40-yard dash. That should give him the ability to shed defenders for Love's passes all over the field. In addition, he provides a strong offensive threat as defenses focus more on stopping Josh Jacobs. Advertisement At Texas, Golden tallied college career highs with 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns. The Packers are hoping he continues that success as a rookie and beyond. As with most rookies, the games and time will tell the story with Golden's development. However, he has veteran receivers around him to learn from, a solid quarterback, and a team that is hungry to succeed in the 2025 NFL season.
