Speeding driver lost control of car in Fife before head-on crash
A speeding driver lost control of his car at a bend in Fife and crashed head-on with another vehicle, badly injuring others.
Jamie McAndrew's white Seat Ibiza collided with an Audi on Kingseat Road, Dunfermline, after he crossed into the opposing carriageway
The front seat passenger in his own car and the female passenger in the Audi suffered broken bones.
He was also injured in the October 26 2022 crash.
McAndrew, of Kirkcaldy, appeared at the town's sheriff court to plead guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving, reduced from an original charge of dangerous driving.
The court heard it was around 6.30pm and the road was wet, though the weather was fine, with good visibility.
Prosecutor Sarah Smith said the married couple in the Audi approached a right-hand uphill bend at 40mph and saw headlights coming in the opposite direction.
McAndrew was approaching the bend at excessive speed and failed to negotiate it and 'lost control and collided head-on' with the other car, the fiscal said.
All airbags were deployed and there was extensive damage to both vehicles.
Emergency services were contacted and the couple from the Audi were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
McAndrew's passenger, who had to be freed from the wreckage, needed two surgeries to fix a hip fracture and was in hospital for about two weeks and has found it difficult to work since as a joiner.
The female passenger in the Audi suffered bruising to her lower abdomen, a fractured sternum, soft tissue injuries to her right ankle and had surgery on her right knee.
The Audi driver was found to have a grazed left hip.
McAndrew's injuries included a dislocated thigh bone and broken left lower leg.
Defence lawyer Martin McGuire said McAndrew, 24, is in full-time employment.
Sheriff Krista Johnston deferred sentencing until July 7 to obtain background reports and his bail was continued.
McAndrew was disqualified from driving meantime.
The length of the ban will be decided at the next hearing, which will take place at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Uncensored footage has been shared on Facebook by the family, who say they are distressed, appalled and bewildered by the incident. In strange scenes, one of the young women flicks her hair and poses for photos and a video, even lifting her dress at one point. The other woman stands at the entrance to the garden with a mobile phone. Brandon lost his life when a red Audi car 'accelerated' and then 'turned into him' while he was standing on a street with two friends, according to what was revealed at the opening of his inquest. The two friends managed to dodge the car, but the father-of-one was hit on Porritt Street and was later pronounced dead, reports the Manchester Evening News. Police have confirmed that a man wanted for questioning in relation to his death - identified as 23 year old Tino Williams - remains at large, with a manhunt underway. The family expressed their utter confusion over the actions of two women who took part in the photoshoot at the home of a recently murdered young man, pleading with them to erase the footage they captured on their phones during the photoshoot. A family spokesperson conveyed their shock to the Manchester Evening News: "How dare they? It is just ridiculous. She even floats her dress in the video and puts down her jacket on the table in the front garden. These two very inconsiderate women took it upon themselves to trespass onto the front garden and have a little photoshoot at the house of a young lad who has just been murdered. "We cannot understand why these people would do such a thing. We are all just flabbergasted. We do not know why this has happened. It is disgusting and it is bizarre. We want to find out who these people are so we can ask them why?" Speaking to the M. E.N. , the family's representative said: "Because we do not know who these two are, we do not know what they have done with the videos and pictures they took. This has caused a lot of distress and we would ask them to delete all the images and pictures they took at once. "This situation is not a bit of entertainment for other people. This is real life and we are trying to grieve in peace without mindless people taking advantage" Brandon's family has disclosed that they haven't yet informed the Greater Manchester Police about a particular situation but are mulling over filing a formal report. Following Brandon's sudden passing, his family gave an emotional statement saying: "We are all truly shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon. "He was a gentle, kind-hearted young man whose warmth and social nature touched everyone around him. Brandon was taken far too soon, and his passing has left a deep void in all our lives. "They also paid homage to his role as a parent, stating: "Brandon was a devoted dad to his young daughter, who he loved deeply. His family meant everything to him, and the bond he shared with his mum was incredibly special, they were best friends. "Amid their sorrowful period, the family entreated for privacy: "As we come to terms with this devastating news, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and support one another through this difficult time. ". In connection to Brandon's death, a 38 year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on bail pending further police investigations. Liza told investigators she "got scared" before the encounter and said: "I suddenly realised that I was too far from home and not in control of the situation." She then told authorities the scouts would threaten her "with problems" if she disobeyed. Another girl, Irina, 17, from a provincial city, also testified that she was paid for sexual services with the same oligarch. One pimp Maksim 'Mad Max' Nekozyrev - jailed for six years for organising prostitution with minors - was recorded under interrogation saying: "We call them [virgins] 5.1 or 6.1. These are high value goods. A clean, unexposed girl is sought out, naturally she must be a virgin. Next, this girl gets acquainted with a VIP client. VIP clients are, by the rule, billionaires." A woman Anastasia Yakusheva was sentenced to six years in a penal colony, and another female pimp Olga Goncharova was jailed for five years and six months. Another woman, Svetlana Titova, was sought in Austria, but her extradition was refused. She was jailed for seven years in absentia. Titova denied these claims and said: "I never organised any prostitution, I helped girls from poor families. I introduced them to wealthy men, if they asked. Believe me, they all ask themselves."

Man accused of killing 'good Samaritan' in Sheffield denies deliberately driving into crowd
A man accused of murdering a "good Samaritan", who was killed while helping a stranger lying in the street, claims he did not deliberately drive into a crowd of people. Hassan Jhangur, 25, hit five people with his Seat Ibiza when he arrived at his sister's wedding reception, where a fight had broken out between the families of the newlyweds. Sheffield Crown Court heard Jhangur drove into the father of the rival Khan family, who was standing in the street, throwing him over the vehicle's bonnet. He then crashed into a group of four people, including passerby Chris Marriott, who had stopped to help one of Jhangur's sisters as she was lying in the road. Jurors heard Mr Marriott, 46, was killed and the three others were injured, including off-duty midwife Alison Norris and Jhangur's own mother and sister. On Thursday 19 June, Jhangur took the stand and denied deliberately aiming for pedestrians with his car. The 25-year-old said he woke up around 2pm to the sound of his sister screaming and shouting, saying that his other sister had been hit. He told the court he was upset and ran upstairs to his bedroom, where he grabbed a knife. Asked why he took it, he said he knew there were four men are the Khan family home. He said: "I had this feeling that I'd be out-manned and need to produce something to get away." He admitted he was prepared to use the knife and it "didn't occur to [him]" to call police at the time. Jhangur told the court he was unaware of the speed he was driving, but remembers losing control of the car. He claims he did not see the group of people outside the Khan house, and didn't deliberately aim for them. Jhangur said the next thing he remembered was someone on the floor and he used the knife in self-defence once he got out of the car. Jhangur has pleaded not guilty to murder and a number of other charges. The trial continues.
