Now, Kavitha rivets eyes on irri projects to take on Revanth govt
Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi President Kalvakuntla Kavitha has now focused on the irrigation front to target the Revanth Reddy led government in the state, raising issues concerning projects like Bollapalli in Nallamala and the oustees of the Polavaram submergence area, among others.
According to Jagruthi leaders, Kavitha has been keenly studying the irrigation sector with the aim of cornering the current administration. Along with opposing the Banakacherla project, Kavitha has been vocal against the proposed Bollapalli project in the Nallamala Forest area. During a recent press conference, Kavitha stated that the forest area faces submergence due to the Bollapalli project, proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government.
She also challenged the narrative that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was never opposed to Telangana projects, recalling his past letters and petitions filed in the Supreme Court against them. She criticised the Chief Minister's 'paper tiger' stance, asserting that although he calls himself the 'Nallamala Tiger', he has failed to act against projects like the proposed 150 TMC Bollapalli reservoir, which threatens to submerge the Nallamala forest.
Kavitha is organising a roundtable meeting on Friday to discuss submergence in Telangana due to the Polavaram project. Jagruthi General Secretary Naveen Achari confirmed that leaders of various parties, public organisations, and flood victims would participate and speak at the roundtable meeting, scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm on Friday.

Revanth has less knowledge, more venom, alleges BRS MLA Harish Rao
HYDERABAD: A day after the state government held an all-party meeting on the Andhra Pradesh government's Godavari-Banakacherla project, BRS MLA T Harish Rao alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy lacked knowledge on irrigation. Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Harish said: 'Revanth Reddy has less knowledge and more venom when it comes to Telangana water projects.' 'Lies flowed like water at the meeting,' he said and added that the meeting tried to blame BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for AP's proposed Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) project. Stating that the all-party meeting was turned into a 'political platform', the former irrigation minister said that the chief minister 'neither knows the basics of the irrigation sector nor has any knowledge of the basins of various rivers'. 'Revanth Reddy was seen asking the officials in which river basins Devadula and Banakacherla were located. It shows his lack of knowledge. Even schoolchildren know that Devadula was constructed across the Godavari,' he added. Harish alleged that the way Revanth spoke at the meeting indicated that he was giving a green signal to the G-B project. 'That's why the CM said that they would be satisfied with 1,000 tmcft in Godavari and 500 tmcft in Krishna,' he alleged.

Andhra High Court pulls up state govt over delay in setting up PCA cells
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday directed the State government to file a counter over delay in setting up the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) cells at district level. Hearing a petition filed by a differently-abled person Tirumala Krishna of Mahanandi in Kurnool district, who claimed that 13 FIRs were filed against him across the State for a single social media post, Justice Nunepally Harinath found fault with the government for failing to set up the State and district-level PCA cells. The petitioner alleged that the 'Red Book' rule prevailed in the State, with unchecked police high-handedness. Representing the petitioner, advocate V Surender Reddy argued that the police were acting arbitrarily and unreasonably. He noted that Section 111 of BNS was invoked against his client merely for a social media post, despite the clear ruling from both the Supreme Court and the High Court against such misuse. He further emphasised that the Supreme Court had previously issued clear instructions to set up PCA cells at both the State and district levels to address grievances against police harassment, but these directives have not been implemented by the State. Later, the matter was posted to July 17.
