Renault reveals design concept giving a glimpse of the new Duster
Renault India has unveiled a new design concept, offering a glimpse of the likely upcoming Duster. This concept car previews the third-generation Duster, which is expected to hit the Indian market later this year. The company also opened a design centre in Chennai which will cater to both Indian and international markets.Alongside the Duster, Renault has ambitious plans to launch five new vehicles in the next two years, including an electric vehicle designed for both Indian and global markets.
The concept shares design cues from the Duster available internationally.
advertisementThe upcoming Duster is expected to be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater versions. The new Duster will compete in a crowded mid-size SUV segment alongside the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the Tata Curvv.
Built on the CMF-B modular platform—shared with Renault, Dacia, and Nissan. The exterior sports narrow Y-shaped LED DRLs, chrome-accented grille, vertically stacked air vents, and a muscular lower bumper. The SUV retains its rugged profile with squared wheel arches, large alloy wheels, roof rails, and a sloped rear quarter glass, while the rear design features sharp Y-shaped LED tail lamps for a modern appeal. In the international market, the Duster comes loaded with features such as dual digital displays, including a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The cabin is equipped with Arkamys 3D six-speaker audio, climate control with redesigned AC vents, rear AC vents, 360-degree camera, Type-C charging ports, power-adjustable front seats, and more.advertisementIn terms of powertrain, Renault will introduce the Duster with the petrol engine first, and is likely to be followed by CNG. However, a diesel option is highly unlikely. Duster in the international market offers three options globally: a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid system, a 1.6-litre-strong hybrid petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a 1.0-litre petrol-LPG unit. The 1.6-litre and 1.2-litre engines comes with an optional 4x4 drivetrain, while the 1-litre engine is offered with front-wheel drive. We may also see the return of the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine from the previous generation. In terms of safety, the Duster comes with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Features such as automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition with over-speed alerts, and lane keep assist are available in the international model. With its bold new look, enhanced features, and multiple powertrain choices, the upcoming Renault Duster aims to make a strong comeback in the Indian SUV space.Subscribe to Auto Today MagazineMust Watch

Strong FY25 performance supports standalone credit profiles of banks: Fitch
Fitch Ratings on Monday said Indian banks' strong financial performances in the financial year ended March 2025 support the standalone credit profiles of rated banks and position the sector for future growth. The sector reported improved asset quality, stronger capital buffers and stable profitability despite the slowest sector loan growth in four years. "We expect steady performance to continue, though sustaining sound core financial metrics that strengthen loss-absorption buffers and resilience to economic shocks relative to the previous cycle would support positive momentum for rated banks' standalone credit profiles," Fitch said. The rating agency believes banks can sustain steady performance across most credit metrics in FY26, except for earnings due to cyclical pressures on margins and credit costs. "Indian banks' strong financial performances in the financial year ended March 2025 (FY25) support the standalone credit profiles of rated banks and position the sector for future growth," Fitch Ratings said in a statement. As per the net profit reported by public sector banks for 2024-25 (FY25) fiscal, cumulative profit rose to a record level of Rs 1.78 lakh crore, 26 per cent growth over Rs 1.41 lakh crore in FY24. Market leader State Bank of India (SBI) alone contributed over 40 per cent of the total earnings, as per the published numbers on stock exchanges.

Limit on duration for state debt STRIPS may dent demand, say insurers
The Indian central bank's attempt to create a market for separate trading of principal and interest for state government debt may be dampened by rules on the duration of bonds eligible for such securities, top insurers said. Earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India enabled Separate Trading of Registered Interest and Principal of Securities (STRIPS) for state debt but said these securities can only be issued for bonds with a residual maturity of up to 14 years. With about half of state debt supply in longer-duration papers, the regulation could curb demand, mainly from insurance companies which are the biggest investors in STRIPS. "As far as life insurance companies are concerned, the demand is more for above 20-year papers. I expect the RBI to eventually remove the duration cap in state debt STRIPS and allow STRIPS even for 30-year papers," said Rahul Bhuskute, CIO at Bharti AXA Life Insurance. STRIPS allow dealers to sell principal and interest payments independently, enhancing liquidity in the state government securities by enabling distinct trading of these components. Until now, STRIPS were allowed only for central government securities, with no limit on duration. "Insurance companies have liabilities up to 40-plus years and hence preference is always towards STRIPS with longer maturities," said Sachin Bajaj, executive vice president and chief investment officer at Axis Max Life Insurance. Bajaj added that insurance companies primarily fulfill their 10-15-year demand through corporate bonds. Indian states raised ₹1.74 trillion ($20.06 billion) through the sale of bonds in April-June, of which over 50 per cent was borrowed through bonds with more than 14 years duration. Traders estimate another ₹8 trillion of state bonds will be issued over the next three quarters with a similar maturity pattern. STRIPS help insurers increase the duration of their asset portfolio as well as improve cash flow matching against certain liabilities, said Ketan Parikh, head of fixed income at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. "Typically, insurance companies have a larger appetite for STRIPS beyond 15 years, while pension funds are more active in the 8-15 year STRIP segment," Parikh added.
