Andhra govt 'failed' tenant farmers, alleges YSRCP leader
Amaravati, YSRCP leader K Nageswara Rao on Wednesday accused Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of "abandoning" tenant farmers ahead of the Kharif season.
The former minister stated that over 32 lakh tenant farmers, nearly 80 per cent of Andhra's agricultural workforce, are allegedly suffering due to the cancellation of tenant cards and the withdrawal of vital support.
"Naidu's focus is on Amaravati, not on farmers," said Rao in a release, claiming that tenant farmers now rely on private loans with up to five per cent interest, plunging deeper into debt.
During the tenure of former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, 26 lakh farmers received tenant cards, and over ₹8,300 crore in crop loans were extended, benefiting seven lakh tenant farmers, said Rao.
Additionally, over ₹752 crore was provided as investment support to Scheduled Castes , Scheduled Tribes , Backward Classes , and minority farmers, while insurance and compensation schemes protected lakhs of farmers, he asserted.
The former YSRCP government also procured damaged crops, bought rain-soaked paddy, and stabilized tobacco prices with ₹500 crore through Markfed, said Rao in the release.
A P Markfed , is a federation of Marketing Cooperative Societies in the district with the main object of helping the farmers to secure better price for their produce by taking care of their market needs and providing agricultural inputs.
Now, the Crop Cultivator Rights Card process has allegedly been stalled, the Annadata Sukheebhava scheme has been ignored, and farmers lack investment aid, facing mounting losses as the Kharif season nears, Rao alleged.
He also claimed that tobacco prices have crashed, with companies rejecting produce, while farmers face losses on 80,000 acres of Burley tobacco.
Rao urged immediate procurement through the Tobacco Board and called on Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to seek the Centre's help for relief to distressed farmers.

New twist to man's death during Jagan Mohan Reddy's rally in Andhra's Guntur
In a new twist to the case relating to the death of a person during YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's June 18 rally in Guntur district, a video has surfaced allegedly showing the victim coming under the wheels of the vehicle carrying the former chief minister. The video was widely shared on social media platforms since Saturday, but its veracity could not be confirmed. The video shows Jagan standing on the door of his vehicle to wave at his supporters who were vying with each other to shake hands with him, and a man coming under the front wheel of the vehicle. The police have not yet reacted to the video, while the YSR Congress Party has dismissed it as an attempt to tarnish the image of its leader. Cheeli Singaiah (65) died after a vehicle in Jagan Mohan Reddy's convoy hit him on the National Highway at Etukuru village in Guntur district. The former chief minister was organising a rally from Tadepalli in Guntur district to Sattenapalli in Palnadu district to console party functionary Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao, who died by suicide due to alleged harassment by police and TDP leaders. According to police, Cheeli Singaiah had come to participate in the rally. Guntur District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar had confirmed the same day that Singaiah was hit by a vehicle in Jagan's convoy. The SP stated that after the accident, the convoy moved without stopping there and taking care of the victim. The police on the patrolling duty at that time found the victim and shifted him to a hospital, but the doctors declared him as brought dead. The police registered a case and took up an investigation. After the video surfaced showing the victim being allegedly hit by Jagan's car, state Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said that the YSRCP leader was throwing people's lives to the wind for his publicity stunt. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party has dismissed the video as 'fabricated' and an attempt to tarnish the image of Jagan Mohan Reddy. YSRCP leader and former Minister Ambati Rambabu said on Sunday that the death of a person during YS Jagan's Palnadu tour has been blown out of proportion. 'Just after the incident, TDP and its friends started a media trial aimed at spreading lies against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and went in circles to tell that it was his car that had hit the person, Singamayya, resulting in his death. The SP himself confirmed that it was not Jagan's vehicle but the one that accompanied the convoy that caused the mishap,' Rambabu told media persons. The former minister stated that Jagan is such a person that he would ensure that the injured person is admitted to the hospital before resuming the tour. 'TDP-friendly media has been busy doling out false stories to dilute the success of our leader's tour,' he said. Rambabu, who has been booked for violating conditions laid down by police for Jagan's visit, alleged that the coalition government is misusing police to settle political scores and indiscriminately file false cases violating all norms only to please their political bosses and resorting to intimidation besides working with the sole intention of trying to scuttle Jagan Mohan Reddy's public contact programmes. The former minister said such acts will only strengthen our resolve to fight against the government and warned TDP leadership that they would not lose heart but will fight back the repression and the attempts at character assassination of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would result in a groundswell of support from the public.

YSRCP supporter ‘run over by Jagan's vehicle' in bid to shower flowers on it, Andhra police begin probe as video goes viral
Police in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh have launched an investigation after a YSRCP supporter was allegedly run over by the vehicle of party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday. Cheeli Singaiah, 55, died after being run over purportedly when he slipped and fell in front of the vehicle while trying to shower flowers on Jagan. According to officials, the vehicle's front right wheel ran over the man's neck. Police and YSRCP supporters rushed him to a nearby hospital and later to Guntur Government Hospital, but he died on the way, said Guntur Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar. Initially, it was thought that Singaiah was injured after climbing on a vehicle in Jagan's convoy and falling down, but videos of him being crushed under the vehicle in which Jagan was travelling have gone viral on social media. Singaiah was a resident of Vengalayapalem village and had gone to greet Jagan with flowers. The incident occurred when Jagan was returning after visiting Rentapalla village in Palnadu district, where he had gone to console the family of a former sarpanch who had died by suicide, allegedly due to police harassment. Singaiah 'unfortunately fell down in front of the convoy and was run over', SP Kumar said. On the same day, another YSRCP supporter, 30-year-old P Jayvardhan Reddy, collapsed and died in a melee of Jagan supporters near Sattenapalli clock tower. He was declared brought dead at the Guntur Government Hospital. Jagan's visit to Palnadu had already become controversial due to a placard held up by a YSRCP supporter, which led to a police case and a political blame game. The placard, held up by YSRCP worker T Raviteja on Wednesday, said: 'When YSRCP comes to power in 2029', and below that, 'rapa rapa narukuta'. The Telugu words were part of a line delivered by Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2. It translates to 'cut them down, one by one'. Police in Palnadu said they registered a case against Raviteja. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha accused Jagan of encouraging such 'violent' statements. Jagan defended the placard, saying it was not meant to be violent and asked, 'So, now you can't even quote a line from a movie?'

SIT to file AP liquor scam chargesheet in Vijayawda ACB court
VIJAYAWADA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged multi-crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime, is set to file a preliminary chargesheet in the ACB Court in Vijayawada within the next one or two weeks. According to sources, the investigation has reached a crucial stage, with SIT gathering substantial evidence, and testimonies pointing to large-scale irregularities and fund misappropriation in the liquor policy implemented during 2019-24. The case began with a complaint lodged by Yeedi Srinivas to the Principal Secretary (Revenue-Excise). It was initially taken up by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (APCID), which registered an FIR in September last year. The State government later constituted SIT, headed by NTR District Commissioner of Police SV Rajashekhar Babu to probe the case. Investigators reportedly uncovered a kickback network involving nearly Rs 3,500 crore siphoned off over five years. Several key individuals have been arrested so far, including Raj Kesireddy (alias Kesireddy Rajashekar Reddy), former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Cherukuru Venkatesh Naidu, K Dhanunjay Reddy, P Krishnamohan Reddy, Sajjala Sridhar Reddy, Balaji Govindappa, Dilip Kumar, and Chanakya. All are currently in judicial custody. The first arrest in the case took place in April. As per legal provisions, a chargesheet should be filed within 90 days of any arrest to avoid granting default bail. Hence, SIT has speeded up the process of filing the chargesheet. 'We are in the final stage of the investigation. The preliminary chargesheet will help us seek court approval to seize the passports of the accused, and take steps to prevent their escape,' a senior official told TNIE.
