Duke quarterback commit explains why he picked the Blue Devils
Terry Walker III has been committed to the Duke Blue Devils since April and he is currently representing them at the Elite 11 Finals in Los Angeles. The three-star quarterback is competing to be crowned the MVP of the prestigious quarterback competition.
Tom Loy of 247Sports asked about why he committed to Duke, and he quickly pointed out the culture and success quarterbacks have had under offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jonathan Brewer.
"It's a great culture," he explained. "When you go there, it just feels like home. I mean, talking with other guys that have been on the officials already, everybody's enjoyed their official. It just feels like home to everybody. And then Coach Brewer's done a great job with quarterbacks in the past. He had Kevin Jennings at SMU, who turned out to be great. When he pulls up that PowerPoint and shows you the guys that (he's coached), and tells you that you're going to be on that PowerPoint one day, like you're going to be their next guy. It's hard to pass up, they throw the ball downfield a lot. You know, Maalik Murphy had a great year with them, record-breaking year. Off the field stuff, just being at a prestigious school like Duke where academic-wise, it's probably one of the – if not the best non-Ivy League in the country, then one of the top three at least. So it's just a great school to be at and great people. It's just – it's a hard opportunity to pass up."
Walker is coming off his first season as the full-time starter at Lawrence Central High School. In 10 games, he completed 46.3% (95-205) of his passes for 1,467 yards and 17 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also rushed the ball 48 times for 377 yards and four more touchdowns, averaging 7.9 yards per carry.
With limited reps, and a 46.7% career completion percentage, Walker was a bit of an unknown at the event, but he impressed Andrew Ivins, 247Sports Director of Scouting.
"We weren't sure what to expect from Walker as he's less than a 50 percent career passer, but he ended up being arguably the biggest surprise of the night. Walker showcased the ability to make advanced throws and tied Henderson with the best spin rate on the balls that were tracked. He might be a longer burn, but something is there."
Walker is ranked as the No. 788 overall player and No. 45 quarterback in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is the No. 9 player from Indiana.

Texas A&M's softball season came to an abrupt end in the Bryan-College Station Regional, despite being picked as one of the favorites to reach the NCAA Women's College World Series. To add insult to injury, SEC newcomer Texas won its first World Series in program history while A&M watched from home. In a surprise to fans, Texas A&M star utility player Amari Harper entered the portal for her final season. Outside of Harper, the Aggies had a relatively quiet portal season with only a few departures. Coach Ford, however, is focused on improvement, bringing in a handful of talented players that include an NCAA career leader in saves and a Golden Glove winner. ESPN analyst Jay Bilas reveals what he likes best about projected No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg
Cooper Flagg is on the verge of becoming the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, and the National College Player of the Year recently earned praise from ESPN analyst Jay Bilas. Flagg led Duke to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American. The 6-foot-8 forward established himself as the overwhelming favorite to be the No. 1 pick because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games on both ends of the court. Bilas, speaking on the "Awful Announcing" podcast with Brandon Contes, named his favorite trait about Flagg. The one thing that stands out about Cooper Flagg, to me, above all others, and we can talk about the attributes -- physically, athletically, how he shoots it, how he handles it, how he passes it and how he defends -- but the thing I like about him best is he is not one who is interested in numbers. What he does is he makes the right play on that play and then he winds up stacking the right play over and over again and then by the end of the game, he has compiled really impressive numbers. Flagg entered the season with tremendous expectations as the consensus top recruit in the class of 2024. He was highly touted as the likely top pick in the draft and lived up to the hype after becoming the face of the sport this past season. The 18-year-old led the Blue Devils in total points (709), rebounds (277), assists (156) and blocks per game. He is highly regarded for his ability to process plays in real-time and his decision-making with the ball in his hands, while also constantly adding new skills to his arsenal. After trading away cornerstone Luka Dončić, the Dallas Mavericks hope Flagg can step in and be their long-term solution. Should Flagg indeed hear his name called first on Wednesday, the ACC Freshman of the Year will become the sixth Blue Devil to be selected as the top pick. "I think he is the best freshman Duke has ever had, and that is saying something given the freshmen that Duke has had over the last 30-40 years, maybe even beyond that," Bilas said. "He is barely 18 years old right now, and the polish and maturity he shows... People talk about will Dallas trade the pick, I just can't imagine a scenario where you trade that because he is the future for them."
