10 Times Method Actors Made Work Hell For Their Costars
1. The Weeknd's The Idol costar Lily-Rose Depp revealed she'd 'steer clear' of him on set when he was fully in character as Tedros, an abusive and sleazy night-club owner. She told Entertainment Weekly, 'Sometimes when Abel would get — I don't want to reveal too much about where Abel's character goes, but when he would be in full Tedros mode sometimes — I would steer clear of him.'
2. Jared Leto famously sent his Suicide Squad costars a bunch of disgusting 'gifts,' including dead animals, anal beads, and used condoms. He told E!, 'I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, of spontaneity, and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. I mean, the Joker is somebody who doesn't really respect things like personal space or boundaries.' Naturally, a bunch of his costars called him out, including Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Will Smith, and Viola Davis.
3. Robert Pattinson admitted that he got on Willem Dafoe's nerves on the set of The Lighthouse. Robert said that because he was playing 'fucking psychotic' Ephraim Winslow, he felt it was OK to 'be mad the whole time.' "You can literally just be sitting on the floor, growling and licking up puddles of mud...[I was] basically unconscious the whole time. It was crazy. I spent so much time making myself throw up. Pissing my pants. It's the most revolting thing. I don't know, maybe it's really annoying," he said.
4. Brian Cox once said that he found his Succession costar Jeremy Strong's method acting 'fucking annoying.' For context, Jeremy has publicly shared that he refused to rehearse with his costars on the show because he wanted 'every scene' to feel like he was 'encountering a bear in the woods.' 'I think you have to go through whatever the ordeal is that the character has to go through,' Jeremy said. 'If I have any method at all, it is simply this: to clear away anything — anything — that is not the character and the circumstances of the scene … usually that means clearing away almost everything around and inside you, so that you can be a more complete vessel for the work at hand,' he shared in 2021.
5. Tyrese Gibson once claimed that his Annapolis costar James Franco 'never snapped out of character' on set. 'I respect method actors, but he never snapped out of character. Whenever we'd have to get in the ring for boxing scenes, and even during practice, the dude was full-on hitting me. I was always like, 'James, lighten up, man. We're just practicing.' He never lightened up,' he claimed.
6. Daniel Day-Lewis's method acting for Phantom Thread seriously annoyed his costar Vicky Krieps, who told the Telegraph: 'After half the movie, I was just really tired of it. Like, 'OK, I get it. It's a game. I've played it. But can we just talk normally now, please?''
7. Paul Giamatti once called out his Man on the Moon costar Jim Carrey's 'wacky' behavior on set. He said, 'It was one of the weirdest experiences I've had making a movie, to be honest with you. It was just wacky. Jim was wacky during it. He did this whole thing where he was Andy Kaufman all the time when he was on set and when he was in the costume, and was Tony Clifton all the time when he was Tony Clifton…When he was Tony Clifton, he had cheese — Limburger cheese — in his pockets, so he smelled horrible. And he'd constantly be hugging people, and he had it all over his hands and stuff. It was disgusting. He was touching people and making them shake his hands all the time. He smelled horrible. Like, really bad. It was just weird. And that's the least of it.'
8. In 2022, Jesse Plemons called out his The Power of the Dog costar Benedict Cumberbatch for making a rude comment about him while in character. 'There was one time he got under my skin. He was like, 'Hey, big boy.' It wasn't 'fatso.' I feel like a few people in life have been like, 'Hey, big boy,' and I was like, 'Goddamn it. What the fuck,'' he told Variety.
9. Meryl Streep once called out her Kramer vs. Kramer costar Dustin Hoffman for allegedly slapping her off-script without consent. She told the New York Times, 'This is tricky because when you're an actor, you're in a scene, you have to feel free. I'm sure that I have inadvertently hurt people in physical scenes. But there's a certain amount of forgiveness in that. But this was my first movie, and it was my first take in my first movie, and he just slapped me. And you see it in the movie. It was overstepping.'
10. And finally, I had to include Timothée Chalamet's recent comments about an unnamed actor who made his on-set experience filming a Western quite 'something' after they simply 'weren't washing' in a bid to stay in character. 'It was quite something on set. That waft coming in every day,' he said.

James Gunn Shuts Down Hopes for Guillermo del Toro's JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie — GeekTyrant
For years, fans have imagined what a Guillermo del Toro-directed Justice League Dark movie would've looked like. A gothic dream team of Constantine, Jason Blood, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and Deadman wrapped in the filmmaker's signature visual flair. With James Gunn now steering the ship at DC Studios, some hoped that project might finally take shape. Unfortunately, according to Gunn himself, that's just not happening. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn addressed the long-whispered possibility of reviving del Toro's abandoned Justice League Dark project. Gunn said: 'By the way, Guillermo's never said that to me. I hear all these things about, 'Guillermo would love to do Justice League Dark. Well, Guillermo's never said that to me. 'Just let Steven Spielberg do his Blackhawks movie that he wants to do!' Steven Spielberg, who I love above anyone else, has never said that to me. 'So these things get blown out of proportion. Years and years ago, I said I wanted to make a Thunderbolts movie. I was in a convention somewhere, and somebody asked me, 'What did I want to do that wasn't Guardians of the Galaxy?' I said Thunderbolts. 'And for years and years, it's like, 'James Gunn should be allowed to make his Thunderbolts movie.' I have a million things that I thought I wanted to do in certain moments.' Del Toro did spend a chunk of time developing a Justice League Dark film years ago, and his affection for DC's monsters and magical misfits is no secret. But, that project officially fizzled out in 2018, and nothing solid has emerged since, not from del Toro, not from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot, which was also attached to a version of the story at one point. It's a shame. Del Toro's passion for the material and his history with comic book films make him a natural fit for the darker, weirder corners of the DC universe, and considering his recent run of critically acclaimed films like Nightmare Alley , Pinocchio , and the upcoming Frankenstein , it's not like he lacks the clout to do it. But, he hasn't reached out to Gunn about it, so Del Toro has clearly moved on from DC. Still, all hope may not be lost. Gunn has been clear that DC Studios will continue to explore standalone Elseworlds projects, films that operate outside the shared continuity, like Joker or The Batman. Del Toro once offered up some information on his unmade Justice League Dark project, saying: "I took a little bit of the opening of the Alan Moore Constantine. And I took the dynamics between [Abby Arcane] and Swamp Thing, and I took the sort of revelatory moments when Deadman gets into a body, how he would experience the consciousness of that being. 'And one of my all time favorites is the demon Etrigan. I love that character. You know, so you try to put them together ... Zatanna is really, for me, another character that is really effortlessly powerful and interesting. Trying to mix that with Klarion the Witch Boy ... I was a DC guy." If del Toro ever does express renewed interest, maybe there's a path forward under that banner. But for now, Justice League Dark remains a ghost story in the halls of unrealized superhero cinema.

It's no secret that superhero films are coming back bigger and better than ever and James Gunn's Superman — starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult — is no exception. This isn't the first time James has taken a swing at the big world of superheroes. Before taking a seat as co-CEO of DC Studios, he directed and wrote the enormously successful Guardians of the Galaxy franchise under Marvel — and the fans don't let him forget it! Prior to sitting down with press in the Philippines, the Suicide Squad director dropped hints via replies on Threads that some of the Guardians cast were placed as "Easter eggs" and everyday we've been wondering... WHO COULD IT BE? Now, we finally have an answer. Hold onto your capes! In an exclusive interview with BuzzFeed Australia, the Suicide Squad director revealed a DC and Marvel character crossover, that made us audibly gasp. From the short Superman preview screening, we've already spotted the voice of Rocket Racoon — Bradley Cooper — but James let us in on a few more cameo secrets. "I will give you something that nobody knows, but Pom Klementieff is one of the robots. It's Bradley and then it's also Pom and Michael Rooker is another one of the robots," he shared. Yes, it was music to our ears. You might recognise Pom as Guardians' Mantis and Michael as papa Yondu Udonta. As for other Guardians castmates, Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista, James mentioned "keeping them in the wings" — perhaps for another world-stopping reveal just like this! Not only is the future of DC looking incredibly bright — the slate is looking packed for the next year or two. "We're going to be able to find out the future very quickly after this," the Superman director teased. "This movie comes out in July, and then Peacemaker begins in August. We're getting right into it. We have Supergirl and we have Clayface and we have Lanterns. They're all coming out one after the other. James Gunn Says SGT. ROCK Is Still Marching Forward and Teases Secret Project Project He Feared Would Be Ripped Off — GeekTyrant
Despite reports that Sgt. Rock had been shelved, James Gunn is here to clarify that Easy Company isn't done just yet. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the DC Studios co-head gave an encouraging, though cautious, update on the war-themed project, originally set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino with Colin Farrell attached to star. 'I feel like we're in a pretty good place. We're still moving forward, but it's not going to would Peter want me to say here? ... So it's still moving forward, but, yeah, right now it wasn't exactly where I wanted it to be creatively, and so it needs to change a little bit.' So while the original vision may not survive the reshuffle, Gunn makes it clear that Sgt. Rock hasn't been left for dead. That wasn't all Gunn had to say. When asked if there were other projects cooking behind the scenes, he teased something far more mysterious, something he's been keeping under wraps since the very beginning out of fear another studio (cough Marvel) might try to swipe the concept. 'My favorite thing has not been announced at all. One of the scripts people kind of know about. My script people don't know about. The other script people don't know about. 'So it's mostly stuff people don't know about.... A couple of those things [announced in January 2023] are in pretty good shape in terms of coming up, but there was one thing that I knew about from the very beginning, that when I pitched to David Zaslav what the DCU would be, I pitched to him, but we did not announce in that first meeting because I felt like it was too easy to rip off by another company. And so that's one of the main things.' That's the kind of statement that's going to fire up speculation across the fandom. A brand-new idea, so potent and original that it had to be kept hidden? Sounds like the kind of curveball that could define Gunn's DCU if it delivers. For now, we're left to wait and wonder. But between the resurrection of Sgt. Rock and the tease of a secret weapon still under wraps, Gunn's DC universe is clearly still evolving.
