Mixtape turned me back into a Millennial teenage dirtbag
Mixtape is the answer to the question, 'What if the movie High Fidelity was a video game?' It's not a perfect analogy, but it's pretty damn close, and either way it's a sign that Mixtape is going to be a fabulous slice of late-1990s, early-2000s nostalgia, complete with a banging soundtrack.
You can hear it in the trailers — Mixtape absolutely nails the classic Moviefone tone, and it seems that this vibe extends to the full game. I played roughly 30 minutes of Mixtape at Summer Game Fest 2025, and in that time I became enamored with the game's lead character, a rebellious and insufferably cool teenager named Rockford who's about to leave suburbia to pursue her dreams of becoming a music supervisor in New York City. She talks directly to the player as she introduces her two also-very-cool best friends and cues up the game's music, breaking the fourth wall just like John Cusack. Most of the game plays out in a third-person view, following along as Rockford and her friends casually skate down tree-lined streets, flee from the cops in a high-speed shopping-cart sequence, and hang out in her bedroom, looking at Polaroid pictures and CDs while planning the best way to steal liquor from her parents' stash. Mixtape comes from The Artful Escape studio Beethoven & Dinosaur, and it similarly uses music as a core storytelling and scene-setting device. This makes perfect sense, considering the studio's founder, Johnny Galvatron, is a legit rock star based in Melbourne, Australia. Leaning into musicality also worked out well for The Artful Escape , which earned Beethoven & Dinosaur a BAFTA award in 2022. Mixtape 's soundtrack is populated by the top teenage-dirtbag bands from the 80s, 90s and slightly beyond, including DEVO, Roxy Music, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division and the Cure (but not Wheatus, as far as I can tell, just to be clear).
Visually, Mixtape has a painterly 3D aesthetic with gorgeous golden light and purple shadows, reminiscent of Life is Strange or Telltale's The Walking Dead series. In action, the characters move in a windswept, Spider-Verse animation style that doesn't interrupt the gameplay flow. Even soaring down winding asphalt roads on a skateboard, Rockford responds immediately to controller input and her ride isn't interrupted by stray or late animations. Mixtape looks lovely and feels great.
There are also surprising little moments with alternative mechanics in the game's first half hour, including a scene straight out of Wayne's World where you make the trio headbang in a car, and another where you control two tongues making out in a close-up, Ren & Stimpy kind of cartoon realism. When Rockford explains what a music supervisor is, real-world reference images fill the screen in a tongue-in-cheek educational interlude. Throughout all of this, the music continues to roll, each song purposefully placed and given time to shine.
It would be easy for Mixtape to feel like a cheap nostalgia grab, an exploitation of Millennial players' memories of skipping CDs and pre-cellphone party planning, but that simply isn't the case so far. Mixtape feels like a love letter to the early aughts, filled with surprising mechanics, beautiful graphics and all the right references executed extremely well.
Mixtape is due to hit Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, published by Annapurna Interactive.

Dolce & Gabbana embrace wrinkled romance for spring-summer 2026
MILAN (AP) — Dolce & Gabbana beckoned the warm weather with crumpled, take-me-anywhere comfort in their menswear collection for spring-summer 2026, previewed during Milan Fashion Week on Saturday. The show opened and closed with a relaxed pajama silhouette — deliberately rumpled and effortless — in a clash of stripes, with both shorts and long trousers. The Beethoven soundtrack belied designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's more deliberate intent, underscoring the designers' structured approach to soft tailoring. A broad shoulder double-breasted suit jacket and tie worn with pink pinstriped PJ pants encapsulated the classic summer dilemma: work vs. pleasure. Raw knitwear, or furry overcoats, added texture. Boxers peeked out of waistbands, and big shirt cuffs out of jacket sleeves, challenging formal and casual codes. Nothing was cleaner on the runway than a crisp striped pajama top in sky-blue and white stripes tucked into white leather Bermuda shorts — good for work and for play. The designers' finale featured pajama suits, shorts and pants, with beaded floral patterned embroidery for an evening seaside shimmer, worn with fuzzy sliders. Twin cameo brooches gave an antique accent. The crowd outside got to share in the fun when the finale models took the looks onto the streets, taking a full lap outside the designers' Metropol theater. Front-row guests included actors Zane Phillips, Theo James, Lucien Laviscount and Michele Morrone.

‘Elio' Post-Credits Scenes—Why You Should Stick Around After The Movie
Elio is now in theaters. Pixar Animation Studios' latest film Elio has blasted off into theaters. The family-friendly, intergalactic adventure holds an impressive 86% score (so far) on Rotten Tomatoes. If you're gearing up to watch the film on the big screen, here's what to know about the post-credits scenes and why you should stay in your seat until the very end. Elio follows 11-year-old orphan Elio Solís, who feels so alone that his biggest wish is to be abducted by aliens… and somehow, that wish comes true. He suddenly finds himself transported across the galaxy and mistaken for Earth's ambassador to the Communiverse, a coalition of alien civilizations. 'Elio, an underdog with an active imagination, finds himself inadvertently beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide,' the synopsis reads. 'Mistakenly identified as Earth's ambassador to the rest of the universe, he starts to form new bonds with eccentric aliens while discovering who he's truly meant to be.' Yonas Kibreab, who voices Elio, shared with MovieFone what he hopes audiences will take away after watching the Pixar film. 'I hope the first thing that they take away is just how amazing this movie is, but also just how important your friends and your family are,' he said. "Friendship is very important, just like Elio and Glordon, and your friends are always going to be there for you, including your family members. Also, if you're feeling alone, if you're feeling like it's hard to find friends and you're going through grief, it's all going to be okay, and you will find your people. Just stay positive. The 14-year-old actor is joined by Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga, Remy Edgerly as Glordon, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa and Shirley Henderson as OOOOO. As you watch Elio in theaters, you might be wondering whether it's worth sticking around after the credits roll. Here's what to know about the post-credits scenes and the current status of Elio 2. Does Elio Have A Post-Credits Scene? Elio is now in theaters. Yes, Elio has multiple post-credits scenes, so you'll want to stick around after the film concludes. Without revealing spoilers, there's a mid-credits scene involving Elio that serves as a continuation of the film and opens the door for a sequel. There's also another end-credits scene that teases Disney and Pixar's upcoming 2026 film Hoppers. Will There Be An Elio 2? Elio is now in theaters. Disney and Pixar have not yet announced a sequel to Elio. However, if the film performs well at the box office, there's a strong chance we could see Elio 2. Pixar is known for turning its successful movies into sequels or franchises, as seen with Inside Out, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles, Finding Nemo and Toy Story. Upcoming sequels include Toy Story 5 (June 19, 2026), The Incredibles 3 (TBA) and Coco 2 (2029). That said, several other popular Pixar films have yet to receive the sequel treatment, including Soul and Luca. The studio will likely wait to evaluate Elio's performance and fan reception before greenlighting another movie or spinoff. Based on Elio's mid-credits scene, his ongoing contact with Glordon further cements his future in the galaxy, setting the stage for the boy's story to be explored in a possible sequel. Watch the official trailer for Elio below.
