New RM79mil Mara Professional College campus to serve Kapit students

KAPIT: A new Mara Professional College campus, costing RM79mil, will be constructed in Kapit to serve students in the division.
The campus would have the capacity to accommodate up to 300 students and would emphasise soft skills instead of technical or TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated that the project was approved in 2019 but could not commence earlier due to various necessary processes that had to be completed.
'This project has been eagerly anticipated and is much needed, as it will be the only higher education institution available to students after secondary school in this remote area,' he said following a handover ceremony at the Kapit Civic Centre meeting room on Saturday (June 14).
Nanta mentioned that the original allocation for the project was RM90mil, but after an open tender process, the contract was awarded for RM79mil.
He said there would be only a one-time registration fee upon enrollment, with no tuition fees.
'Additionally, students will receive a monthly allowance of RM300,' he said.
The project, located on Jalan Song-Kapit, is scheduled for completion on Dec 5, 2029.
After the ceremony, Nanta attended the Gawai Dayak open house at Dewan Sarawak.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- A total of 220 projects have been approved under the Land Use Optimisation Programme in collaboration with state governments nationwide for 2024 and 2025, as of May 30. In addition to two papers for consideration and five papers for information, the meeting also discussed a proposal for the official handover of 51 National Satellite Farm complexes built by the Department of Veterinary Services using federal funds on state-owned land in Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Perak. 'This move aims to streamline the leasing and maintenance of immovable assets by the respective state authorities in a lawful and organised manner. 'The meeting agreed that the handover would resolve issues of unclear asset ownership and enable state governments to manage and maintain the assets more systematically, ensuring the continuity of livestock operations and optimal use of existing infrastructure,' the statement read. Meanwhile, on the role of state executive councillors addressing 'grey areas' in rice bowl zones, one of the proposals raised was to transfer assets with unclear ownership to the state or district Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS), to ensure more efficient and effective padi field irrigation management.

Bursa Malaysia, Grab channel zakat to aid 500 kidney patients

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 500 kidney patients from the asnaf group in the Federal Territories will receive RM300 Grab ride vouchers each to help ease transportation to dialysis treatment centres. The RM150,000 contribution was made through wakalah zakat funds from Bursa Malaysia (RM100,000) and Grab Malaysia (RM50,000), under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the initiative aims to ease the financial burden of patients who require long-term dialysis treatment. 'With the high cost of transportation, especially for those who need to travel several times a week, this burden can be overwhelming. 'This contribution may not be much, but I hope it can at least help make things easier for the patients so they can focus better on their treatment,' he said at the Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ)-MAIWP Ziarah Kasih programme at the Batu Muda MAIWP-PICOMS Haemodialysis Centre here today. Also present were University College of MAIWP International (UCMI) chief executive officer and vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Noor Inayah Yaakub, Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad'l Mohamed and Grab Malaysia country operations and mobility director Rashid Shukor.
