Piyush Goyal writes to CM Yogi, praises UP govt for extensive purchases from GeM platforms

New Delhi: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has expressed happiness over Uttar Pradesh's extensive procurement of goods and services from the Government e-marketplace (GeM) platforms and praised the latter for contributing to the vision of Digital India.
Union Minister wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and said that the UP government's initiative towards procurement from GeM portals will inspire other states to follow suit.
He also shared the data of procurement done by the UP government through the GeM portals in the last five years and thanked it for reposing faith in it.
The GeM is a Central Public Procurement Portal that facilitates online procurement of goods and services by Central and State Government Ministries/Departments, Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Bodies and Local Bodies.
The platform has seen fast growth in the past few years, with financial year 2024-25 alone witnessing purchase orders of over 72 lakh through the GeM, amounting to Rs 5.43 lakh crore in value.
Since its launch, purchases worth over Rs 14 lakh crore have been made on GeM through more than 2.9 crore purchase orders. Today, the GeM boasts over 11,000 product categories and over 330 service categories.
In his letter to the Uttar Pradesh CM, Piyush Goyal credited the state government for taking the lead role in contributing to this extraordinary growth.
He also thanked the Yogi government for issuing a comprehensive order on November 26, 2024 and said that this will integrate various procurement-related notifications into a single document, simplifying processes and paving the way for 100 per cent adoption of GeM.
'This move will enhance transparency, efficiency, cheapness and ease of procurement process,' he said and also highlighted that this was in line with PM Modi's vision of GeM as 'one-stop marketplace' for all types of needs of govt buyers.
He further pointed out that the UP government's policy on GeM was aligned with the vision and broader objectives of the Digital India mission.
The minister further said that such an endeavour of the UP government will serve as a source of inspiration for other states to step in and undertake similar procurement from the GeM portals.
'I sincerely hope that your support will continue in the future as well,' he wrote in concluding remarks.

New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) The celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on Saturday witnessed an overwhelming global participation, from India's borders and remote villages to bustling cities and embassies abroad. The day was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who performed yoga at the iconic Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, addressing a massive gathering of over one lakh yoga enthusiasts. Modi highlighted that yoga is not merely an exercise but a holistic way of life, transcending boundaries, backgrounds, age, and abilities. He further emphasised the unifying power of yoga, noting that it has now been embraced by 175 countries, marking the global acceptance of his proposal for IDY in 2015. In states like Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, and Madhya Pradesh, officials and citizens embraced yoga with a deep sense of belonging and peace. J&K LG Manoj Sinha participated in the 11th International Yoga Day in line with the Common Yoga Protocol, while Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang led a session in Gangtok, promoting wellness in the northeastern region. Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, attended the event at Modhera Sun Temple, Mehsana while senior officials at the Geological Survey of India (GSI) preferred to choose its iconic geo-heritage sites such as Bhimbetka Rock Shelters in Madhya Pradesh and Mangampeta Barytes Deposit in Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan, celebrated the day near the riverfront at Maa Samaleswari Temple Complex, Sambalpur, Odisha with officials, dignitaries and residents of Sambalpur joining him at the session. Similarly, over nine lakh cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) participated in synchronised yoga sessions at iconic locations across the country from Leh in the North to Kanyakumari in the South and from Dwarka in the West to Tezu in the East at iconic spots, as well as in public parks, schools, and colleges across the country, according to the government statement. Indian embassies worldwide hosted grand events, from Tokyo, where Yoshiko Ishiba, the spouse of Japan's Prime Minister, joined in, to New York's Times Square, where hundreds took part in a vibrant yoga session. Washington, DC also marked the occasion with a large turnout at the Lincoln Memorial, demonstrating yoga's universal appeal. Interarch Building bags Rs 80-cr order from Ather Energy

Interarch Building Solutions announced that it has secured an order worth Rs 80 crore from Ather Energy for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, and erection of pre-engineered steel building systems. The project, valued at Rs 80 crore, is scheduled for completion within nine months, with a 10% advance to be paid along with the order. Interarch Building Solutions provides turnkey pre-engineered steel construction solutions in India. Ather Energy is an Indian electric two-wheeler (E2W) company engaged in the design, development, and in-house assembly of electric scooters, battery packs, charging infrastructure, and supporting software systems. On Friday, shares of Interarch Building Solutions added 1.43% to close at Rs 2,061, while shares of Ather Energy rose 0.53% to end at Rs 320.75 on the BSE.
