Executive order ending ban on supersonic air travel in US could aid Colorado company
DENVER (KDVR) — An executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Friday could mean a Colorado supersonic jet company will be able to use its commercial supersonic jet sooner rather than later.
The order, called Leading the World in Supersonic Flight, directs the Federal Aviation Administration to lift a 50-year regulation preventing supersonic flight over U.S. land.

'Advances in aerospace engineering, materials science, and noise reduction now make supersonic flight not just possible, but safe, sustainable, and commercially viable,' Trump claimed in his executive order.
Based out of Centennial, Boom Supersonic is attempting to create the world's fastest airliner and has a jet that reached supersonic speeds while testing earlier this year in California.
'XB-1's supersonic flight demonstrates that the technology for passenger supersonic flight has arrived,' said Boom Supersonic founder and CEO Blake Scholl in a January release. 'A small band of talented and dedicated engineers has accomplished what previously took governments and billions of dollars. Next, we are scaling up the technology on XB-1 for the Overture supersonic airliner. Our ultimate goal is to bring the benefits of supersonic flight to everyone.'
Boom Supersonic says the plane would be able to fly from New York to Los Angeles in three hours, without a sonic boom. The company hopes to have passengers flying commercially by 2029.
The FAA has 180 days to create new noise standards allowing overland supersonic flights.
