Student organisations accuse corporate colleges of ‘rank scam,' demand action
Leaders of student organisations have accused certain corporate college managements of resorting to what they call the 'Ranks' scam.'
At a press conference in Vijayawada on Thursday, Student Federation of India (SFI) state secretary Prasanna Kumar alleged that after the JEE (Advanced)-2025 results were announced on June 2, many corporate colleges began making false claims that the top rankers belonged to their respective coaching centre or institution.
Citing examples, he said: 'Majid Hussain, who secured an all-India 3rd rank, was falsely claimed as a student of a private college, while in reality he attended coaching classes at a private academy in Madhya Pradesh. Similarly, Akshat Kumar, who secured an all-India 6th rank, did not study in a private college as claimed by them but was a student of another private academy.'
He added that in the race to garner a bigger pie of the student talent for the next academic batches, these corporate colleges made false claims over successful students' ranks to deceive students and parents. He said: 'There was a sharp decline in enrolments in these colleges as a large number of students were resorting to taking the extreme step of suicide. The government must take measures to check these fraudulent practices.'
The leaders of the All-India Students Federation (AISF) also made similar charges against educational institutions and have said that the practice of multiple institutions claiming credit for the success of a single candidate in entrance exams can be misleading for parents.
They demanded action against Telugu film actors, who serve as brand ambassadors for these institutions.

He said that the content was shared across multiple media channels, including YouTube via Sithara Entertainment's channel, drawing widespread criticism. Investigation is under way.

Kalanidhi Maran accused of 'financial crimes' In the notice, Dayanidhi Maran has accused Kalanithi of committing 'fraudulent practices' and 'misgovernance' during the takeover of Sun TV. As per media reports, Dayanidhi Maran has alleged that his brother was involved in a series of 'calculated and coordinated financial crimes' including cheating and money laundering. If the allegations are proved, BCCI may take actions strict against Kavya Maran and her IPL team. 'White-collar criminality' Such acts amount to white-collar criminality of the highest order and have caused irreparable loss to the legitimate stakeholders of the companies in question, Dayanidhi alleged in the notice. YSRCP supporter ‘run over by Jagan's vehicle' in bid to shower flowers on it, Andhra police begin probe as video goes viral
Police in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh have launched an investigation after a YSRCP supporter was allegedly run over by the vehicle of party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday. Cheeli Singaiah, 55, died after being run over purportedly when he slipped and fell in front of the vehicle while trying to shower flowers on Jagan. According to officials, the vehicle's front right wheel ran over the man's neck. Police and YSRCP supporters rushed him to a nearby hospital and later to Guntur Government Hospital, but he died on the way, said Guntur Superintendent of Police S Satish Kumar. Initially, it was thought that Singaiah was injured after climbing on a vehicle in Jagan's convoy and falling down, but videos of him being crushed under the vehicle in which Jagan was travelling have gone viral on social media. Singaiah was a resident of Vengalayapalem village and had gone to greet Jagan with flowers. The incident occurred when Jagan was returning after visiting Rentapalla village in Palnadu district, where he had gone to console the family of a former sarpanch who had died by suicide, allegedly due to police harassment. Singaiah 'unfortunately fell down in front of the convoy and was run over', SP Kumar said. On the same day, another YSRCP supporter, 30-year-old P Jayvardhan Reddy, collapsed and died in a melee of Jagan supporters near Sattenapalli clock tower. He was declared brought dead at the Guntur Government Hospital. Jagan's visit to Palnadu had already become controversial due to a placard held up by a YSRCP supporter, which led to a police case and a political blame game. The placard, held up by YSRCP worker T Raviteja on Wednesday, said: 'When YSRCP comes to power in 2029', and below that, 'rapa rapa narukuta'. The Telugu words were part of a line delivered by Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2. It translates to 'cut them down, one by one'. Police in Palnadu said they registered a case against Raviteja. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha accused Jagan of encouraging such 'violent' statements. Jagan defended the placard, saying it was not meant to be violent and asked, 'So, now you can't even quote a line from a movie?'
