Punjab: Yudh Nashian Virudh: 102 peddlers arrested, 105kg poppy husk and heroin seized
As part of the ongoing 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' initiative to combat the drug menace in Punjab, the state police on Monday arrested 102 drug smugglers and recovered 688 grams of heroin, 105 kg of poppy husk, 2,164 intoxicant pills, and ₹26,910 in drug money from their possession.
Monday's operation marked 107th day of the anti-drug drive, during which a total of 17,749 drug smugglers have been arrested.
The statewide crackdown, conducted under the supervision of director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, involved over 200 police teams and 1,400 police personnel. Police raided 479 locations and checked 504 suspicious individuals, leading to registration of 76 FIRs. The operation is being carried out in all 28 police districts in Punjab.
Special DGP law and order Arpit Shukla said that the state government is executing a three-pronged strategy—enforcement, de-addiction and prevention—to eradicate drugs. As part of the de-addiction drive, 55 individuals were convinced to undergo rehabilitation and treatment on Monday.

New Delhi: In a major intelligence-based operation, Amritsar Rural Police in Punjab apprehended two persons suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The DGP said that investigations 'are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network.' He also said that the probe is aimed at identifying all collaborators. Earlier in an operation, the Punjab Police arrested a spy with links to ISI and Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla. The accused, Gagandeep Singh, was arrested in Tarn Taran on June 2. According to officials, he had been leaking sensitive and classified information, including details of troop deployments and strategic locations, posing a serious threat to national security. Sharing operation details, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest followed precise intelligence and coordination. 'The accused disclosed during interrogation that the weapons were delivered via drones and were meant for disruptive activities,' he added. He said preliminary investigations revealed the accused was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. 'The weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to execute targeted killings and terror activities in the state. We are working to uncover the entire network and its international linkages,' Bhullar said, adding that further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and handlers. A case under the Arms Act has been registered at Maqboolpura police station in Amritsar.

(HT File) Bajwa said the claims made by the AAP-govt that they have successfully disrupted the supply chain of drugs, primarily heroin, during the first phase of the three-month campaign that ended in May is 'highly misleading'. 'The drug network in Punjab remained intact, addiction continued unabated, and youth — including women — were still falling prey to drugs, with overdose deaths persisting across the state,' he alleged. Bajwa further said that while the state claimed progress against heroin, traffickers have already shifted focus to methamphetamine or ICE, which was cheaper, more potent and easier to manufacture. Accusing the AAP leadership of chasing publicity, Bajwa said that chief minister Bhagwant Mann and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal had failed to meet their deadline for a drug-free Punjab. 'It appears that they are in a rush to prove that their government has tackled the drug issue, while the ground reality remains alarming. They owe a public apology,' Bajwa added.
