KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory, describing them as 'punitive' and 'unprovoked' acts that violate international law and undermine diplomatic efforts.
Anwar said the Israeli attacks were clearly intended to derail ongoing talks and shatter hopes for a peaceful resolution in the region.
'Such actions, carried out with utter impunity, constitute a blatant violation of international law, further eroding the norms that hold the global order together.

'We call on those with power and influence to speak plainly and act decisively to restrain further escalation,' he said in his keynote address at the 38th Asia-Pacific Roundtable (APR) here on Thursday.
Also present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Chairman of ISIS Malaysia Datuk Prof Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah.
Shifting focus to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Anwar expressed deep concern over the relentless Israeli military campaign, calling it a tragedy that has inflicted a devastating toll on a defenceless population.
'The staggering civilian casualties, overwhelmingly women and children, demand far more than pious proclamations of concern.
'They require concerted international action to uphold humanitarian law, secure an immediate ceasefire, and ensure the unfettered delivery of aid to those in desperate need,' he said.
Anwar warned that the credibility of the so-called rules-based international order is now 'on trial,' urging global powers to act decisively to prevent further escalation.

Palestine Embassy Condemns Gaza Humanitarian Foundation

KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- The Palestine Embassy in Malaysia has condemned the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), describing the aid distribution initiative as a veiled operation that further endangered innocent aid seekers in the enclave. First Secretary of Embassy Amjad Khamaysa said the US and Israel-backed entity undermined genuine humanitarian efforts and worsen the oppression of Palestinians suffering under the regime's brutality. "They (Israel) don't allow humanitarian access to Gaza and they are establishing this Gaza Humanitarian institution. Unfortunately, these distribution centres are used to hunt Palestinians. bootstrap slideshow 'They (Palestinians) come to get aid and they are killed (by Israel) there,' he told Bernama at the 'More Than A War, It's Genocide' forum, organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here, Saturday. He also condemned the regime's banning of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from carrying out its humanitarian mission in Gaza. Since May 7, Israel has been bypassing UN and international relief organisations by distributing limited aid through the GHF, which was rejected by the UN. According to Anadolu Ajansi, Palestinians seeking aid through this mechanism have become daily targets of Israeli fire, resulting in many casualties. Amjad said the embassy will continue to engage with the public to raise awareness and solidarity against the regime's ongoing genocide on Palestine and its people through various channels, including through cooperation with Malaysian civil societies and the digital sphere. Over 55,000 people in Gaza – mostly women and children – have been killed since Israel launched its aggression on October 7, 2023.

Indonesia Confirms US Warship's Passage Through Strait Of Malacca

By Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar JAKARTA, June 21 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's military said Saturday that the United States (US) aircraft carrier USS Nimitz was transiting the Strait of Malacca in line with international maritime law when it was last detected last week. The vessel was travelling from the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean via the Singapore Strait and the Strait of Malacca, the Indonesian Armed Forces Information Centre (Puspen TNI) said. bootstrap slideshow 'The ship was exercising its right of transit passage under the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS),' the centre's head, Major General Kristomei Sianturi, stated in a statement. He noted that the convention allows foreign warships to pass through international straits without prior notification, provided they do not pose a threat to the security of coastal states. The statement came in response to public concern after a video showing the vessel near Aceh province on June 17 circulated widely on local social media, amid rising tensions in the Middle East involving Israel and Iran. According to the Indonesian navy, the USS Nimitz was last detected with its automatic identification system (AIS) active in waters north of Belawan, near Medan in North Sumatra, on Tuesday. Kristomei said the Indonesian Armed Forces continued to monitor all foreign maritime activity in the country's waters and remained vigilant in safeguarding national sovereignty. -- BERNAMA
