Namibia to host South Africa for a historic T20I
Cricket Namibia's CEO Johan Muller is looking forward to partner with CSA to host the ICC Men's World Cup in 2027.
'This truly is a memorable occasion. The new FNB NCG has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialized," Muller stated.
'A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world class facility.'
Cricket South Africa's CEO Pholetsi Moseki was proud to be a part of the official inauguration of the new cricket ground that will co-host the marquee tournament in 2027.
'We are honoured to be part of this historic occasion. Namibia are a competitive side, and this fixture reflects the growing strength of cricket on the continent.'
FNB NCG hosted its first full fixture earlier this year, between the home side and Canada, which ended up being a last-ball thriller.

'Trailblazer' and former England fast bowler David Lawrence dies at 61
Former England fast bowler David Lawrence has died at the age of 61 after a year-long battle with motor neurone disease (MND), his family said on Sunday. Lawrence, the first British-born Black cricketer to represent England, was diagnosed last year with MND, a degenerative condition that causes muscle wastage and affects the brain and nerves. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Lawrence MBE (King's Birthday Honours) following his brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease," Lawrence's family said. "Syd was an inspirational figure on and off the cricket field... A proud Gloucestershire man, Syd took on every challenge with everything he could and his final contest with MND was no different. "His willingness to encourage and think of others right up to the end was typical of the man he was. As President of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, Syd took on the role with incredible pride and passion and loved every minute of it." Lawrence, who earned five Test caps for England, made 280 appearances for Gloucestershire and took 625 wickets for the county. His Test debut came at Lord's against Sri Lanka in 1988, with his career highlight being a five-wicket haul against the West Indies at the Oval in 1991. In 2022, Lawrence became Gloucestershire County Cricket Club's first Black president and he was named one of the inaugural Honorary Life Vice-Presidents of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) earlier this year. ECB chairman Richard Thompson described Lawrence as "a true trailblazer of English cricket and a man of immense courage, character, and compassion". "His impact on the game extended far beyond the boundary ropes," Thompson added in a statement. "As a fast bowler, he thrilled crowds with his pace and passion. As a leader and advocate, he broke barriers and inspired change, becoming a powerful voice for inclusion and representation in our sport."

Kuwait's cost of living up 2.25% compared to last year
KUWAIT CITY - The Central Statistical Administration (CSA) announced on Thursday that Kuwait's consumer price index (CPI) increased by 2.25 percent compared to May of last year. The inflation rate showed a monthly rise of 0.15 percent in May compared to April, according to the CSA. The data revealed that in April, the CPI had risen by 4.72 percent year-on-year. Breaking down the figures by category, the CPI for the cigarettes and tobacco group remained stable, while the clothing group saw a rise of 4.09 percent. Housing services prices increased by 0.74 percent, and home furnishings rose by 3.38 percent. The health sector recorded a 3.79 percent increase in prices. Conversely, transportation costs decreased by 1.05 percent compared to May 2024. The communications category experienced a modest price rise of 0.64 percent annually, while entertainment and culture prices increased by 1.92 percent. Education costs also rose by 0.87 percent. In April, prices for restaurants and hotels increased by 1.50 percent year-on-year, and miscellaneous goods and services rose by 4.9 percent. Excluding the food and beverages group, the overall inflation rate in Kuwait rose by 1.69 percent annually in May and by 0.08 percent compared to the previous month.
