THESE Are My Top 10 MOST Anticipated Movies Coming Out In 2026… My Taste May Be Controversial

Buzz Feed13-06-2025

First off, some honorable mentions...
10. Moana (live-action)
I think this movie would have been put higher on the list if it weren't for the release of Moana 2 coming BEFORE the live-action version. The announcement for this movie came and people were excited but also confused, because it hasn't even been 10 years since the original Moana movie came out. I think a lot of this movie's hype got shoved away due to the release of the sequel. Nonetheless, I'm a little antsy to see how it turns out!Truly, I still want to see a live-action Tangled as well...
9. Mega Minions
I kind of have a tradition at this point in watching the Minion/ Despicable Me movies in theaters. Why should this one be any different? I am hoping for a more in-depth plot that doesn't include 75% minion dialogue... the second Minions movie did that pretty well, so I have high hopes for this one. This one's for the nieces and nephews tbh.
8. I Can Only Imagine 2
This faith-based movie is definitely getting a watch from me! I really liked watching the first movie with my mom. It's quite an inspiring story that will pull at your heartstrings but also leave you encouraged. I'm excited to see the next one!MercyMe is still releasing Christian contemporary music today and I'm still enjoying!
7. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
I won't lie... I haven't gotten up to watching the latest Spider-Man movie BUT I plan on it, in order keep up with this one that is making its way next summer! This is still an exciting release, I mean... Spider-Man will forever be hyped up.As much as Tom Holland kills it as Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man series still takes the cake for me!
6. Super Mario World
I watched the first one in theaters and loved it! I went from disliking Princess Peach my whole childhood to not minding her as much in the movie. (don't ask why, I just preferred Daisy as a kid...) I am hoping for some more characters to be introduced, like Daisy ofc, maybe even Waluigi, or more Wario! Is anyone else still hoping for Bowser to release some more music?
5. Narnia
I remember watching these as a kid at my grandma's house with my brother... pure nostalgia. With the greater access we have to special effects etc. now, along with how good the first movies were, AND having Greta Gerwig as a director... I can't wait to see how this movie turns out!I'm hoping it'll live up to expectations!
4. Ice Age 6
Did we really need another Ice Age movie? No... are we getting one? Yes! I can't complain tbh. I loved watching all of the Ice Age movies growing up and still enjoy pressing play on them now. The humor has aged well and can be enjoyed by kids AND adults - unlike a lot of kids shows/ movies that are released nowadays with plots, characters, and dialogue that mostly just annoy adults. I'm excited to be taken back to the Ice Age with this new movie!*Cue all of the incoming Sid the Sloth memes*
3. Jumanji 3
I feel like this movie series is extremely underrated. I loved the first movie and was super excited to get a second. So, I'm definitely anticipating the release of this one just as much, though I am a tad bit worried for it to live up to the rest of the series... third movie installments tend to be weaker imo. Nonetheless, you bet I'll be trying to get tickets to the theaters for this one!Dare I say that I enjoy the modern-day Jumanji movies over the original?
2. Shrek 5
This one was almost my number one… And I'd maybe consider it tied with first place if they would change up the animation just a tad bit. But, even if they don't end up making Shrek and Fiona look like actual ogres, instead of anti aging skin care regimen, lip filler, modern-day influencers painted green... I'm still looking forward to the storyline continuation of the Shrek series because it's been one of my favorites since I was a kid. Minus the hiatus I took when Shrek is love, Shrek is life came out and scarred me for almost 6 years...I still can't believe that a stupid YouTube video made me ditch watching my second favorite animated movie of all time... aka Shrek 2. (Bee Movie being #1)
1. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reeping
Me being excited about this movie is absolutely an understatement. The announcement of this movie caused a reaction in us Hunger Games fans that couldn't be contained. From the book release hype to the FANTASTIC job they did in character casting... you best bet this is my MOST anticipated movie coming out in 2026. I might just add a countdown to November 20th, 2026 in my phone tbh.

Jon Bernthal's Punisher Joins Cast of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day' With Tom Holland

Jon Bernthal is joining Tom Holland in 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day.' Bernthal – who has played The Punisher on a number of TV shows – is reprising his role for the first time on the big screen TheWrap has learned. The gun toting vigilante was most recently seen in Season 1 of 'Daredevil: Born Again.' Bernthal first appeared as The Punisher back in the second season of 'Daredevil' when it was still a Netflix series. He later reprised it for a few episodes in the aforementioned first season of 'Daredevil: Born Again.' He's tapped not only to appear in the second season of that series but also for a Punisher standalone on Disney+ – akin to the 'Werewolf By Night' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Christmas special. Bernthal is also co-writing the standalone special. Along with Holland and Bernthal, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are both tapped to return for the new Spidey film as MJ and Ned respectively. The only other major casting announced is that 'Stranger Things' alum Sadie Sink has joined the film in an unspecified role. Rumors have swirled about her portraying a number of iconic characters from X-Men mainstay Jean Grey to Gwen Stacy – and possibly even Spider-Gwen. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' – the fourth film in Holland's tenure as the wall crawler – is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is slated for release on July 31, 2026. Cretton also handled directing duties for Marvel's 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' and a few episodes of the upcoming Disney+ series 'Wonder Man.' Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote the script. The casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Jon Bernthal Joins Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day'

Jon Bernthal has appeared in several Marvel television series as the stone-cold vigilante known as the Punisher, even headlining his own series. Now he's taking his guns to the big screen. More from The Hollywood Reporter Abigail Breslin, Booboo Stewart to Star in Dramedy Movie 'A Good Fight' (Exclusive) Steven Spielberg Thought 'Jaws' "Would Be the Last Movie I Would Ever Be Given to Direct" How Prime Video Gives Cord-Cutters One-Stop Access to Apple TV+, HBO Max, Paramount+ and More Bernthal has joined Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest Spider-Man movie from Sony and Marvel. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature, which will shoot in England this summer and has a July 31, 2026, release date. Much of the movie remains shrouded in mystery. Movie rumor websites have listed upwards of a dozen possible villains, from crime bosses to alien symbiotes, who could appear in the feature, as well as a couple of different versions of the Hulk. The only thing clear at this stage is that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their roles as MJ and best friend Ned, although how substantial those roles will be remains unclear. And Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is the big new addition so far. The story takes place after the events of the previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the entire world knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man and then had that knowledge erased. Having Bernthal as the Punisher seems to point to a slightly more grounded angle on the story as the character hails from the gritty street corner of Marvel's universe and, in the comics at least, uses fists, knives and guns to tussle with bad guys, rather than spells or fancy tech. But hey, having him square off against a rampaging Hulk could be fun, too. Bernthal first showed up as vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series, then starred in his own series that ran for two seasons. He recently returned for a few episodes in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Marvel is betting on more Punisher and Bernthal in the months and years to come. The character is set to return for season two of Born Again and Marvel is bringing Bernthal back for a Punisher stand-alone feature for Disney+. Bernthal is co-writing the latter. Curiously, one nonnegotiable he had for his return to Daredevil was maintaining the character's violent, R-rated feel. It will be interesting to see how that translates into the more kid-friendly tone of the Spider-Man movies. Bernthal and Holland have a charmed history together when it comes to Marvel. The duo were working on the 2017 feature Pilgrimage when prepping to audition for their Marvel roles. The actors helped each other with their audition tapes. This year, Bernthal's big-screen output has included starring opposite Ben Affleck in The Accountant 2 for Amazon and appearing in the Rami Malek thriller The Amateur for 20th Century Fox. Bernthal is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer. Jon Bernthal's Punisher Officially Joins SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY! — GeekTyrant

Jon Bernthal is officially bringing the Punisher into Spider-Man: Brand New Day ! The next installment in Tom Holland's Spidey saga. Frank Castle is actually stepping into the Sony/Marvel Spider-Verse, and this is for real, and it's awesome! The film, which begins shooting this summer in England, will be directed by Shang-Chi 's Destin Daniel Cretton and is set to hit theaters July 31, 2026. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as MJ and Ned, and Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. The story picks up after the reality-resetting events of No Way Home , where no one remembers Peter Parker is Spider-Man. That gives the narrative a clean slate, and apparently a perfect window to drop in Marvel's most brutal antihero. Bernthal's take on Frank Castle was first introduced in Netflix's Daredevil series and later spun off into The Punisher . He recently returned in Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again, and not only is he starring in Season 2—he's also co-writing a solo Punisher special. So yeah, the man is in. This new crossover has been years in the making, even if unintentionally. Bernthal and Tom Holland actually helped each other score their Marvel gigs while working together on the 2017 film Pilgrimage. Bernthal told Jimmy Kimmel Live: 'We did a film about seven or eight years ago. That was where both Tom did his audition for Spider-Man and I did my audition for Punisher. We actually made each other's audition tapes on that film.' He even had a hand in giving Holland some iconic Spider-Man flair: 'I gave him the note, 'Tom, maybe you should run up that wall and do a double backflip and then start the scene.' And he was like, 'Yeah, you think I should do that? That's not too much?' I was like, 'I don't think any of these other fools are able to do that,' and he in fact did that.' Now, after years of parallel stories, they're finally sharing the screen in the MCU. With Peter navigating a world that doesn't know who he is, and Castle never caring much for red tape, the dynamic between these two could be explosive. We don't know exactly how the Punisher will fit into Brand New Day , but I can't wait to see how this comes together! One's a neighborhood-friendly hero trying to stay under the radar. The other's a walking storm of gunpowder and grief. Whatever happens, it won't be boring. Source: Deadline
