'Hi-Five' tops weekend box office, edging out 'Mission: Impossible 8'
South Korean action comedy "Hi-Five" seized the top spot at the local weekend box office, unseating the latest "Mission: Impossible" installment, data showed Monday.
According to the Korean Film Council, the comedy movie, directed by Kang Hyeong-cheol, drew approximately 380,000 moviegoers from Friday to Sunday.
Premiering Friday, the movie follows five ordinary people whose lives take a dramatic turn after receiving organ transplants.
"Hi-Five" ended the reign of "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning," Tom Cruise's eighth installment of the popular action franchise, which had held the No. 1 position since its local theatrical debut May 17.
It has attracted a cumulative audience of 2.47 million to date. During the weekend, the film attracted about 371,000 moviegoers.
Coming in third was "Big Deal," starring Lee Je-hoon and Yoo Hae-jin, which sold 131,000 tickets over the weekend. Inspired by a real-life story, the film revolves around two men entangled in a merger case during the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis. (Yonhap)

BTS member Suga officially discharged from military service
K-pop group BTS member Suga was discharged from the South Korean military on Saturday, the seventh and final member to complete the country's mandatory national service amid expectations of the band's comeback from a hiatus. The seven members of the group put their global music careers on hold in 2022 to begin their military service, starting with Jin in December that year. South Korea's mandatory national service can be for terms of up to 18 months. Shortly after his official discharge, Suga posted a message on fan community platform Weverse, saying he was "sorry for the disappointment and concern caused by what happened last year", and also apologizing to his bandmates. Last year, Suga was fined 15 million won ($11,500) by a court for drunk driving while on an electric scooter. The group is expected to hold its largest-ever world tour in 2026, an NH Securities entertainment analyst said in a report.

Lee Byung-hun teases 'Squid Game' final season, leaves door open for spin-off on Jimmy Fallon show
Actor Lee Byung-hun hinted at the possibility of a spin-off centered on his character, the Front Man, appearing on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to promote the third and final season of "Squid Game." "I am not sure about that, but there is a possibility," Lee said on the show that aired Wednesday. "We never know what will happen."
