Indigenous Defence systems crucial for future wars, says DRDO Chief in Nagpur

During his visit, Dr Kamat reviewed the manufacturing processes of various defence products being developed by Solar Industries. In an exclusive interaction with ANI, Dr Kamat emphasised the growing role of private industry in strengthening India's defence capabilities.

' and to enhance our combat strength, it is essential to promote indigenous defence manufacturing," Kamat said.
Referring to the recent conflict with Pakistan, Dr Kamat expressed satisfaction over the performance of DRDO-developed weapons systems, which were reportedly deployed during the operations.
"Based on media reports and feedback from the armed forces, I am satisfied with the performance of our systems. However, we must also learn lessons from this conflict to improve our systems further and introduce newer technologies to meet the emerging challenges of modern warfare," he noted.

Dr Kamat added that DRDO is currently working on several advanced systems, including missiles, air-based weapons, naval systems, and various sensors, particularly those designed for drone detection and neutralisation.
"I am confident these systems will be inducted into service within six months to one year. They will significantly enhance the capabilities of our armed forces to fight future wars," he said.
He also mentioned upcoming projects like the Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPA-TGM), the Vertically Launched--Short-Range Surface-To-Air Missile (VLR-SAM), heavy-weight torpedoes, precision-guided munitions, and a range of advanced land and sea mines, which are in advanced stages of development or trials.
Satyanarayan Nuwal, Chairman, Solar Industries India Ltd, spoke on the role of solar industries and told ANI, "The war pattern is changing if we look at Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Ukraine. Recently, we manufactured five types of Nagastra (drones). Nagastra-1 was used (in the India-Pakistan conflict). Three variants of Nagastra-1, which are Nagastra-2 and Nagastra-3, are in the trial phase. I believe it will play a significant role in the current conflict... All the variants of Pinaka have been tested... Pinaka weapon, which is indigenous, is a game changer and cost-effective... In the coming time, we will contribute whatever we can to the nation. Whenever we have been called upon to fulfil a need, we are ready to invest even if we do not have any assurances."

ECI mulling intensive house-to-house verification during Electoral Rolls revision for Bihar Polls
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): Election Commission of India (ECI) is contemplating an intensive house-to-house verification during the upcoming electoral roll revision before Bihar Assembly Polls in order to make the Electoral Rolls completely robust and free of any kind of errors, according to ECI sources. Such intensive and rigorous revision of the electoral rolls has been done in the past as well. The last such exercise was undertaken in the year 2004, ECI sources said. Over the past, persistent concerns have often been raised by various civil society organisations, political parties and agencies regarding the inclusion or deletion of names of the electors in the Electoral Rolls. Sanguine about its responsibility, the Election Commission of India has repeatedly emphasised that it is committed to ensuring that only genuine and eligible citizens are enrolled in the electoral rolls. Regular exercise of revision of the Electoral Rolls is undertaken annually throughout the country by the ECI and also before the holding of Elections/Bye-polls by the ECI. Constitutional and legal frameworks are also quite clear and robust in this regard. The provisions regarding eligibility to be registered as a voter and disqualifications for registration in an electoral roll are clearly laid down in Article 326 of the Constitution of India and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 respectively. The need for constant updation of the electoral rolls arises due to various reasons, such as migration/shifting of electors. 'The country continuously witnesses inter-state, intra-state, inter-district and intra-district migration due to reasons such as marriage, job opportunities, education, family requirements etc. For instance, during the year 2024 as per forms received by the ECI, 46.26 lakh persons shifted their residence, 2.32 crore applied for corrections and 33.16 lakh requested for replacement. Thus, in a single year, nearly 3.15 crore changes were required to be made across the country,' ECI sources said. Deletion of names of dead electors: Generally, number of deletions of dead voters is much lesser than the registered deaths as the families do not approach the ECI for deletion of names of their kin. The other reason for constant updating is addition of names of young electors attaining the age of 18 years and corrections in the elector details such as names/photographs/address. Rationalisation of Polling stations for various reasons, especially in view of the new limit set by the ECI of 1200 electors per polling station from the earlier 1500 and the commitment of the ECI to ensure that no elector has to travel for more than 2 kilometers to cast their vote and identification and subsequent deletion names of foreign illegal immigrants in the electoral rolls are the other reason to constantly update the electoral rolls. The entire process of updation of the electoral rolls is conducted as per law/rules/instructions of the ECI, and sufficient opportunity is provided to the political parties to file claims, objections and appeals before the final electoral is published. However, in spite of following a detailed protocol, insinuations and allegations are often made against the ECI for arbitrarily inflating the electoral roll, even though, the exercise is conducted with complete transparency and under constant scrutiny of the political parties. Patna (Bihar) [India], June 22 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has said that the coming Bihar assembly will be an 'election for change' and accused the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of doing little for Bihar in their rule, saying the state continues to face several challenges including poverty and unemployment. He attacked Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the ruling alliance should spell out one development indicator in which Bihar is number one in the country. He said that despite Janata Dal-Untied leader Nitish Kumar being in power for nearly 20 years and Narendra Modi serving as Prime Minister for 11 years, Bihar continues to remain at the bottom in key indicators such as per capita income and education. 'Bihar is number one in poverty, unemployment, has maximum migration, it is lowest in per capita income, per capita investment, we are far behind in healthcare, education,' he said. Tejashwi Yadav said that RJD and other allies of Mahagathbandhan are ready for the assembly polls later this year. 'We were ready last time also, this election is going to be election of change,' he said, adding that they lost the previous assembly polls by a narrow vote margin. The former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister claimed that as per NCRB data, crime incidents have increased since 2005 in the state. Targeting PM Modi, he said the Prime Minister promises to make every election-bound state 'number one state' in the country. 'Don't know which state will be number two, three...', he said. 'People gave Nitish Kumar 20 years to serve the state and PM Modi has been Prime Minister for 11 years. They have done nothing for Bihar. PM said they will give special is it, people of Bihar want to know, they country has not seen a better actor and person speaking lies than Modiji,' he alleged. Tejashwi Yadav alleged that PM Modi has not fulfilled promises of bringing back black money, people getting Rs 15 lakh in their accounts and two crore jobs being generated annually. Asked about BJP-led repeatedly getting mandate of people at the Centre and also in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav claimed it is due to 'propaganda' and alleged that 'all institutions have been hijacked'. He also made light of announcements in the union budget for Bihar, saying old schemes have been announced and can't be counted as special package. The RJD leader said that Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh is a MP from Bihar but when textile parks (PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel - PM MITRA) were announced, there was none for the state. 'Out of nine parks, none have been allocated to Bihar. There are so many union ministers from Bihar...,' he said. Asked about a whole list of development works cited by BJP and JD-U leaders and their assertions that migration has decreased, the number of schools increased, and paper leaks have stopped, Tejashwi Yadav asked if there was any exam without paper leak except for the period when he was Deputy Chief Minister in the coalition government. 'During the 17 months, five lakh posts were filled. They say school building has been constructed, but where are the teachers? Bihar is struggling with hunger, poverty, and hopelessness. What is the change in last 20 years,' he asked. Political parties are gearing up their preparation for the assembly polls. Nitish Kumar announced on Saturday that pension to widows, senior citizens and people with disabilities would be increased from Rs 400 to Rs 1100 per month. (ANI)
