England wicketkeeper-batter
Jos Buttler
made a huge prediction about 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, comparing his bat swing to that of legends
Brian Lara
and
Yuvraj Singh
.
Buttler had the best seat in the house when Suryavanshi smoked a 35-ball 100, including eleven sixes, against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Speaking on For the Love of Cricket, his new podcast with Stuart Broad, Buttler said: "He has this amazing bat swing, a bit like — it's a huge statement — Yuvraj Singh slash Brian Lara."
A Father's Pride: How RR, Dravid & Vikram Shaped Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Stuart Broad recalled the IPL auction, when
Rajasthan Royals
picked the 14-year-old. He said: "When I was watching the auction, Rajasthan Royals picked up a 14-year-old kid. And I think everyone around the world was like, what? 14? It's proper adult cricket, this.
But you ended up being — you were keeping, weren't you? — when he scored that incredible IPL 100. Talk us through that because it made news worldwide."
Reminiscing Suryavanshi's knock against GT, Buttler said: "It's inspiring and deflating at the same time. This guy's 20 years younger than me and he's just smashing us all around the park. But yeah, absolutely — shockwaves throughout the cricket world.
"I think a 14-year-old guy getting picked up — that was the story, wasn't it? He was in the auction, the youngest, and Jimmy (James Anderson) being the oldest — the age difference.

But yeah, he played... he actually hit his first ball for six in the IPL.
"He played two or three games, I think, before he played against us. So, the first ball he ever faced in the IPL — he sort of gave himself a bit of room and smacked it over wide long-off for six. And whether... I don't know, we have to try and get him on the pod and ask him — how long before that happened did you think, I'm going to try and hit my first ball for six? Because it was premeditated.
It wasn't just there."
"And then, the innings against us — you know, our bowling attack consists of Mohammed Siraj, a brilliant international bowler, Prasidh Krishna, an international bowler, Rashid Khan, the best T20 bowler — and he just... the scale of the sixes. They weren't just clearing the boundary — they were big sixes. I mean, you're literally a yard from him. Big sixes. And a 35-ball 100 — it was outrageous.
"And he actually played an innings a couple of games later against Chennai.
I was watching on TV. And, you know, Chennai have Ravi Ashwin, Jadeja — proper seasoned pros. And he was like, bang, hit them out into the sand. And then sort of, you know, knocked one out to cover, like, I'm so in control, I'll just take one now, trot down to the other end. And at that moment, I'm like — this guy's the best player I've ever seen. Like, I'm so blown away.
"
"But the 100 was incredible, right? He went for every ball. It was like, no fear. Whereas that next knock, it was like — a seasoned pro, just taking down great bowlers, hitting a six when he wanted, getting off strike when he wanted. It was in a run chase as well. So, he was calm. And the swing of the bat is beautiful."

Josh Hazlewood Hits Back At Mitchell Johnson's Criticism Over IPL Call, Says This...

WTC Final 2025: Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has stirred the pot again. In his latest column, Johnson questioned the commitment of veteran Test players Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon after Australia's disappointing defeat to South Africa in the World Test Championship final. But both players have responded calmly, defending their decisions and form. Hazlewood Explains IPL Decision Josh Hazlewood came under fire from Johnson for choosing to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) instead of preparing in Australia for the WTC final. However, Hazlewood defended his decision, saying that playing competitive matches in India was the best way to prepare due to poor weather back home. 'We were still in the competition, playing high-intensity matches… I think it was comfortably the best option,' Hazlewood said. He also made it clear that he is feeling confident and bowling well across all formats. 'I feel quite relaxed at the moment about my cricket… The ball is coming out nicely,' he added. Lyon Dismisses Farewell Talk Nathan Lyon, Australia's most successful off-spinner, was also criticized by Johnson, who suggested that some players were holding on for emotional reasons, like a "farewell tour." Lyon firmly denied any such mindset. 'There's no-one planning a farewell tour or anything like that,' he said. He stressed that no place in the Australian team is guaranteed, and competition is always high. 'We never take any of our positions for granted… There's that much competition within the squad,' Lyon added. When asked directly about Johnson's criticism, Lyon didn't say much but made his stance clear. 'Regarding 'Johnno', there's nothing really to be said there,' he replied. Focus on Team Goals Both Hazlewood and Lyon focused on the team's desire to succeed and insisted that their only motivation is to help Australia win games. 'We want to play in games, we want to win games… They're only doing that for the betterment of Australian cricket,' said Lyon. As Australia looks ahead to a busy cricket calendar, the veterans seem focused on performance not praise or farewells.

Sourav Ganguly says failing to convert good starts into hundreds is his greatest cricketing regret

He is the owner of 38 fantastic centuries in international cricket, but that number is not pleasing to former India skipper Sourav Ganguly , who regrets missing many hundreds during his cricketing journey . The elegant left-hander of his times, Ganguly scored 18575 runs in Test and ODIs but regrets missing many centuries in his career in which he competed in 311 ODIs and 113 Tests. Ganguly's remorse came to fore when he was asked what advise he would give to his old self. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play this game for 1 minute and see why everyone is crazy about it Undo "I missed a lot of hundreds, I should have scored more. Too many 90s and 80s," Ganguly told PTI in an interaction. A look at his statistics showed that Ganguly got out in the 80s and 90s a number of times. Exact 30 times. Live Events If he could convert those innings into centuries he would have easily scored 50-plus centuries in his already glorious career. He loves watching his old innings, his strokeplay whenever he is alone and it further reminds him how close he was to getting more hundreds. "I see my (batting) videos when I am alone. When my wife is away because Sara lives in London. I go to Youtube, and watch and say 'arre fir 70 pe out ho gaya' (Gosh, I got out for 70 in this also), should have scored a hundred. But you can't change it. " In ODIs, Ganguly had 72 half centuries and in Test the number stands at 35. As a skipper sometimes a tough call become imperative. You have to drop a player to accommodate someone who you think is more suited for conditions or requirement. Ganguly regretted dropping Anil Kumble one of the greatest leg spinners in the world. "Anil Kumble, a few times, because he was so good," he said. For Ganguly, Australia was his favourite rival side and pacer Glenn McGrath the most feared bowler.

IND vs ENG: Sloppy India let England off the hook at Headingley

Jasprit Bumrah of India reacts after Yashasvi Jaiswal drops Harry Brook of England (Photo by) The sky was closing in, the lights switched on, as India fought to find their way in this opening Test of the tour. The Sunday theatre at Headingley had its twists and turns. Earlier under a bright, blue sky the English late middle-order found its mojo to whittle India's lead down to six as Shubman Gill's boys spilled chances that came their way. And just when it seemed the hosts were on the ascendancy after removing first-innings centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal early, they ran into some stiff resistance by two Indian batters who seemed to be on a mission. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Till one of them — Sai Sudharshan — hit a middle-stump half-volley from Ben Stokes straight into the hands of Zak Crawley at short mid-wicket. Trying to make amends for his first-innings duck on Test debut, Sai, playing extremely late and close to his body, had battled his way to 30. His 66-run partnership with senior pro KL Rahul (batting on 47), seemed to be taking India to safe shores at the end of Day 3, till the lapse happened on the part of the left-hander. Rahul, though, at the other end, seemed to be in a different zone. There was a lot of help for the English pace bowlers, but not for once did it seem that the Karnataka batter was under any threat. Beautifully balanced with his bat face low and playing close to his body, Rahul kept the scoreboard ticking. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo India finished the third day at 90-2. India's Day 3 Test Review: Cloudy skies ahead | Weather twist at Headingley England let off the hook early For now, the game is in the balance, but things could have been much rosier for India. They got overnight centurion Ollie Pope (106) cheaply in the morning, paceman Prasidh Krishna being the beneficiary of a loose shot. With Jasprit Bumrah in the middle of a wonderful early spell, India were just one wicket away from taking control. But Prasidh and Mohammed Siraj were poor, to put it mildly. They hardly bowled the full length that is crucial for extracting the early movement, and Brook cashed in on anything short. On Saturday night, he had survived after getting out for a duck off a Bumrah no-ball, and it might have given him the belief that luck was on his side. Jasprit Bumrah press conference: Lashes out at critics, dropped catches and no balls There's a bit of natural flair in his game too, especially on true surfaces where there is not much spin on offer. He lost his captain Stokes (20), at a crucial juncture when England were 195 runs short of the Indian total, but that didn't stop him from launching a counter-attack. Another dropped catch at 82 by Jaiswal — again off Bumrah — with the second new ball gave him more confidence and at the other end, wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith (40) too showed some spunk before throwing it away. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? Brook's luck, though, finally ran out at a time when he was one short of his ninth Test century. His attempted hook off Prasidh couldn't clear the deep square-leg boundary as Shardul Thakur completed the catch. It was after this that India completely lost the plot. Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes tried to get the lead down and went into an attacking mode, as Gill's inexperience as captain came to the fore. With Prasidh and Siraj going for runs, he had to bring Bumrah and Jadeja back but he delayed it for far too long. The next 50 runs that India allowed to leak might just prove vital in the final outcome. Bumrah (5-83) did finally do the needful after being brought back for another spell, but England by then had enough oxygen to take the fight forward.
