PETRA,TNB To Install Solar PV Systems In Mosques, Promoting Energy Transition
PASIR PUTEH, May 26 (Bernama) -- The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (PETRA), through Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) corporate social responsibility initiative, will install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at two mosques with an allocation of RM130,698.
PETRA secretary-general Datuk Mad Zaidi Mohd Karli said the mosques, Masjid Al-Hijrah at the Fishermen Resettlement Area (PSN) in Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, and Masjid Al Huda in Kampung Rantau Abang, Dungun, Terengganu, received allocations of RM41,999 and RM88,699 respectively.
He said the installations would reduce monthly electricity bills, promote environmental sustainability, raise community awareness, and help lower carbon emissions by replacing conventional energy sources with solar power.
"These CSR projects are crucial in our efforts to bring the energy transition closer to the people, and solar power is one of the key initiatives under PETRA.
"We call on other companies to follow TNB's example and take part in this energy transition efforts," he said when met at Masjid Al-Hijrah recently.
He said the solar PV systems will be installed under the Net Energy Metering (NEM) GoMen scheme, whereby solar energy generated during the day will be used for electricity, and any excess energy will be exported to the TNB grid.
"The exported excess will be recorded and reimported for use at night," he said.
Meanwhile, the imam of Masjid Al-Hijrah PSN Tok Bali, Amirul Mukminin Mohd Roslan, said the solar project would benefit more than 1,200 residents.
"InsyaAllah, there will be more programmes and activities at the mosque, especially at night, once the solar system is installed. It will also help reduce the monthly electricity bill," he said.

IPOH: A total of RM1 million has been allocated for the development of Kampung Temerlok in Trong, near Taiping, under the MADANI Adopted Village initiative carried out by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). MMEA director-general Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah said the agency's efforts now extend beyond maritime security, with a renewed focus on uplifting inland rural communities. 'Today, MMEA proves that our role goes beyond safeguarding the seas. We are also committed to serving the people through community-based programmes and targeted outreach efforts,' he said during the MMEA's Qurban and Spiritual programme held in the village today. Among the five key projects to be funded through the special allocation from the Finance Ministry is the construction and repair of the Sungai Tok Lin fishermen's jetty, a vital economic lifeline for local fishermen. Other projects include roof repairs at Al-Mahmudiah Religious School, refurbishment of the Flood Relief Centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Temerlok, maintenance and repair works at Masjid Al-Mahmudiah, and cleaning of the mosque grounds and the nearby Muslim cemetery. Masjid Al-Mahmudiah also received two air-conditioning units, installed in its meeting room. More than 150 MMEA personnel took part in a gotong-royong (communal work) with villagers to spruce up the village, mosque, and cemetery. Mohd Rosli added that the agency also donated three cows for the Aidiladha sacrificial rites, with meat distributed to 200 residents, including senior citizens, single mothers, and underprivileged families.

Viral tariff schedule is fake, says TNB
TNB has clarified that it did not issue a widely circulated electricity tariff schedule that bears its logo and claims a tariff hike. (TNB pic) PETALING JAYA : Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has dismissed a widely circulated electricity tariff schedule on WhatsApp as fake, urging the public not to fall for any misinformation. In a statement today, TNB clarified that the schedule, which bears the TNB logo and claims of a tariff hike, is fake and was not issued by the company. 'The false schedule misleadingly suggests a tariff increase that features the TNB logo,' it said. 'The circulation of such false information is creating unnecessary confusion among customers.' TNB stressed that as of today, no official announcement has been made regarding any changes to electricity tariffs affecting consumers. The company also reminded the public to be responsible with the content they share online. 'We strongly advise the public to avoid sharing unverified information,' it said. For accurate and updated information, TNB urged consumers to refer only to official government and TNB platforms for any updates on electricity tariffs. Last December, TNB proposed a new tariff schedule with a base tariff of 45.62 sen per kilowatt-hour for Peninsular Malaysia under Regulatory Period 4 (RP4), for implementation from July 1, 2025. The base tariff under RP3 had been set at 39.95 sen/kWh between 2022 and 2024. Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof then said no decision had been made on the new tariff as the government was still finalising the matter. Fadillah is also the energy transition and water transformation minister.
