Debut In New Zealand: The Hong Kong Children's Choir 'Dreams To Dream' Concert

This July, the Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC) will embark on an exhilarating tour to Australia and an inaugural visit to New Zealand. HKCC Music Director and Principal Conductor Kathy Fok, along with the champion of the Hong Kong Choral Conducting Competition Apollo Wong, will lead HKCC members in presenting a meticulously curated repertoire to overseas audience. HKCC will mark its debut performance, 'Dreams to Dream' Concert at iconic Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland on 11 July 2025.
Founded in 1969, HKCC has performed in over 20 countries as 'Little Goodwill Singing Ambassadors', spreading messages of love and peace worldwide. This debut concert in Auckland will feature an exquisite selection of Hong Kong compositions and highlighted pieces:
Signature Hong Kong Works:
– Good Morning Hong Kong () by Composer-in-Residence Dr. Steve Ho – a vibrant portrait of the city's energy
– Bluesy Moonlight () by Dr. Steve Ho – a fusion of Cantonese nursery rhymes with American classics
– Drops in the Yellow River () by Ng Cheuk-yin – inspired by the masterpiece Along the River During the Qingming Festival ()
World Premieres:
– Besties by Alex Tam
– Lunchtime by alumna soprano Lora Chow
– There Is Hope by accompanist Lin Ching
International Favorites:
– New Zealand's beloved Pokarekare Ana
– Simple Gifts
– Disney classics
The concert is supported by The Music Association of Auckland and the Principal Sponsor of the concert tour, The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Sydney.
Hong Kong Children's Choir:
The Hong Kong Children's Choir (HKCC), founded in 1969, is the first and largest children's choir in Hong Kong with around 5,000 members. HKCC has grown into a diversified arts organization. Under the supervision of Music Director and Principal Conductor Kathy Fok, along with over 100 professional tutors, choir members develop their artistic talents and learn the importance of team spirit. Each year, HKCC is invited to perform internationally, spreading messages of love and peace worldwide. HKCC actively participates in charitable events. In 2018, the HKCC Arts Development Fund was launched to support students of different ages and backgrounds in exploring and developing their artistic talents. As the children's choir best representing Hong Kong, HKCC has taken part in many historical moments, and collaborated with world-renowned musicians and arts organizations.

Alice Morgan's Matariki homecoming
This audio is not downloadable due to copyright restrictions. Saxophonist Alice Morgan Photo: Supplied Alice Morgan is on the line from her Sydney workplace, ahead of her return to Aotearoa. This Sunday she'll be back in her home town to play Tony Ryan's saxophone concerto - part of an all-New Zealand Matariki Concert by the Resonance Ensemble in Christchurch's music venue The Piano . Morgan's latest gig is part of a multi-faceted career which ranges from playing saxophone with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, to chamber music, to music programming. Tony Ryan wrote his soprano sax concerto for Mark Hobson who was Morgan's teacher when she was growing up in Christchurch. Morgan spoke to RNZ Concert about her decision to leave Christchurch to study in Sydney, and then her decision to stay once she'd completed her studies. These days she also plays the clarinet, and when not making music you'll find her helping to organise music festivals in the Blue Mountains or programming concerts for the young-at-heart orchestra Ensemble Apex . Its latest gig involved seating the audience onstage with the orchestra for a performance of Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony. Morgan also performs chamber music, and loves playing new works, like the piece in the video below. Swivel & Swerve was written especially for her by Holly Harrison.
