Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo signs new three-year deal

The 51-year-old guided Forest to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing European qualification for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
For much of the campaign, it looked as though Forest were going to qualify for the Champions League, but they lost five of their last eight games.

However, that has not prevented owner Evangelos Marinakis from rewarding Nuno following the club's highest league finish for 30 years, while they also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup before losing to Manchester City.
Nuno said: 'I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club.
'Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the Club, which helped us achieve great things last season.
'I would like to thank our owner, Mr Marinakis, for his constant support and backing. It is important to me to share a strong relationship with our ownership and we have thoroughly enjoyed working together ever since I arrived at Forest.
'Now is the time to work harder than ever as we strive for more special memories together.'
The former Wolves and Tottenham boss arrived at the City Ground in December 2023 following the sacking of Steve Cooper, and helped the club avoid relegation on the final day of the season.
Marinakis said: 'Nuno has made a great impact and performed very well during his time with us so far.
'He has demonstrated that he maximises player performance and is an expert at developing players, whilst also embedding our young talent into the first team set-up.
'We enjoy a strong and solid relationship together and, above all, we share the same dream and ambition of writing a new history for Nottingham Forest, competing in the Premier League and in Europe and winning trophies for our great club.'

But the shattered English star is adamant he'd be stupid to let his gut-wrenching Travelers Championship loss linger and he'll fight back to finally have day in the US sun. ‌ Fleetwood suffered a torturous finale at TPC River Highlands with a 72nd calamity denying him a PGA Tour win at 159th attempt. ‌ The Southport ace was one shot ahead of Keegan Bradley standing on the 72nd tee of the tournament and looked odds-on to seal the deal when he split the fairway with his drive. However, from that point, it went badly wrong. Fleetwood misjudged his final approach with winds making club-selection tricky and a three-putt bogey opened a door for the USA Ryder Cup to boot down as he crashed in a birdie to flip the scores and take the title. The European star was a picture of devastation afterwards as he was consoled by his family with the pain of defeat scrawled across his face. Fleetwood didn't hide his frustration in the aftermath, but is adamant he won't let it linger as he said: 'I'm upset now, I'm angry. When it calms down, I'll look at the things that I did well, look at the things that I can learn from. 'I haven't been in this situation for a while, so felt like I did a lot of good things, but there was things that I definitely can do better and I have to do better. I did plenty of things well enough this week to win, I didn't do that, it hurts. 'When it calms down, the most stupid thing to do and the worse thing to do would be make a week like this a hindrance to what you do going forwards. ‌ "I obviously played great, I put myself in a great position, I was leading the tournament for 71 holes. I just want to make sure that I can put myself in this position as soon as possible again and try and correct what I did this time. 'Leading by two with three to play and leading by one going down the last and you don't even make it to a play-off. It's kind of the worst way that it could go, but Keegan did great down those closing stretches. "I'm gutted really. Right now, I would love to just go and sulk somewhere and maybe I will do, but there's just no point making it a negative for the future really, just take the positives and move on.' ‌ Fleetwood has now recorded 42 finishes in the Top 10 in the United States without getting a win and knows it'll remain a point of discussion. He continued: 'Obviously there's a lot of chat about it. I would have loved to have done it, search goes on, I guess. When it happens it will be very, very sweet. I don't know, really. I led for 71 holes and it didn't happen. ‌ 'In my mind, yeah, I've won loads of PGA Tour events, I just haven't done it in reality and I'm sure that time will come if I keep working. "I had a good chance down the last, probably as close as I came. There's been a handful of times where coming down the last with a chance. But this was a very close one, this is the longest I've led a tournament, so yeah, this probably is the closest. 'From where I was, I should at least be in a play-off, so it's a crappy way to finish. I didn't really feel like I hit that many bad shots execution-wise, just sort of a couple of bad decisions and didn't clean them up, which is pretty poor and things that I have to work on.' Gracious Fleetwood, who next heads to the Genesis Scottish Open before The Open, offered congratulations to home hero Bradley and added: 'I always feel like I have amazing support. If there's one guy around here that you're going to go against, obviously, Keegan's going to get the majority of support. "I felt like the crowd was great with all week. I always feel like I'm very lucky with how the people are with me and how they warm to me. I enjoyed playing, it was a great atmosphere to play in. It really was. I enjoyed that side of it.'

Frimpong ready to fill Alexander-Arnold's 'big shoes' at Liverpool

June 23 (Reuters) - Trent Alexander-Arnold left "big shoes" to fill after leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid last month but new signing Jeremie Frimpong has no doubt he has the ability to replace the England international in the Premier League champions' defence. Frimpong's arrival from Bayer Leverkusen was announced hours after Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid, with the Dutch international becoming Arne Slot's first signing since winning the English top flight. "Liverpool. It's a big club, so it's big shoes regardless," Frimpong told Sky Sports in an interview published on Sunday, when asked if he would compete with Conor Bradley to succeed Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool's first choice for right back. "It's a winning team ... they win trophies for a reason. If you play for a team like Liverpool you have to fill in the shoes and perform. "I've always believed in myself. I'm a winner. That's what I'm going to bring to the team." Amsterdam-born Frimpong, who can also play as a winger, spent nine years at Manchester City as a youth player before making his senior debut in 2019 at Celtic, who won the Scottish Premiership in his first season. The 24-year-old joined Leverkusen in 2021 and made 34 appearances as they won the Bundesliga in 2023-24. "The Premier League is the best league in the world. I grew up in Manchester so I always wanted to come back. It was always the plan," Frimpong said. "I know what being a champion is like at Bayer Leverkusen, so joining a champion team is a privilege ... to go from watching (Liverpool) to playing for them is crazy. "The manager has told me how I can help the team and he really likes me as a player. It's given me extra motivation and belief."
