Damaged Road Surface At Site Of Fatal Crash Involving Singaporean Cyclist
KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Crocodile cracking, a form of road surface damage, was detected at the scene of the accident that claimed the life of a Singaporean cyclist in Kulai, Johor, yesterday, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He said the damage to state road J165 was likely due to frequent use by heavy vehicles, particularly lorries from a nearby quarry area.
Nanta said that although grading work to upgrade the road shoulder was carried out earlier this year, the excessive load caused the damage to recur.
'Although the road falls under the jurisdiction of the State Government, the Works Ministry (KKR) is concerned about its condition, which poses a risk to road users, including motorcyclists and cyclists,' he said in a statement today.
A male Singaporean cyclist was killed after he was believed to have fallen and subsequently hit by a trailer along Jalan Gunung Pulai, Kulai, at about 9.45 am yesterday.
Nanta said that as an immediate measure, he had contacted the state authorities to ensure that pavement rehabilitation works, including re-levelling of road shoulders in the affected areas, were implemented immediately, with comprehensive repairs to follow once the necessary allocation was approved.
He urged all parties involved in road maintenance, along with road users and local communities, to work together to ensure road conditions remain safe, comfortable and of good quality to help reduce road accidents.
Nanta also advised all cyclists, particularly those using public roads, to always prioritise safety and avoid routes frequently used by heavy vehicles.
'Choose a suitable and safe time, such as early mornings on weekends, and always ensure the use of safety equipment, including helmets and reflective lights.

IPOH, June 21 (Bernama) -- Police have mounted a manhunt for three male suspects involved in an armed robbery at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, on June 15. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said one of the suspects has been identified as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. Bakri said a police report on the incident was lodged at 1.02 am on June 15 at the Hilir Perak district police headquarters by a 42-year-old security guard employed at the premises. He said that the three suspects had stormed into the premises, damaged property, and fled with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash taken from the counter. He added that the suspects also injured two customers with the machetes and smashed the windows of four vehicles parked near the premises. Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief involving damage to public property.

Police nab man who drove off with special needs girl in Penaga
KEPALA BATAS: Police have arrested a man who fled in a vehicle with a 12-year-old special needs girl in Penaga on Friday (June 20). Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm when the girl's mother had gone to her husband's workshop to deliver engine oil, leaving her daughter in the car with the engine still running. "However, when the woman, who is in her 40s, returned to the vehicle, she discovered that both the car and her daughter were missing. She then used a location tracking app to locate her phone, which was with her daughter, and found it was in the Bagan Lalang area of Butterworth," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). He added that based on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, together with personnel from the Butterworth police station, managed to arrest a suspect and recover both the victim and the vehicle. He said checks revealed that the suspect, who is in his 60s, has a criminal record with seven cases and 11 drug-related cases. "The victim is in good condition and did not sustain any injuries. She was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a medical examination," he added. Anuar said that further investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 363 of the Penal Code. New ‘Edisi Siasat 2.0' cannot be accessed
KUALA LUMPUR: The Telegram channel of 'Edisi Siasat 2.0', which was created after the 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas' channels were blocked yesterday, is now also inaccessible to users of the platform. A Bernama check of the channel found that a warning displayed, saying 'This channel can't be displayed because it violated local laws (Malaysia)' and all content on the channel had also been deleted. Yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) filed a civil action against two channels on the Telegram platform, namely 'Edisi Siasat' and 'Edisi Khas', rendering the two channels inaccessible on the same evening. However, at 8 pm on the same day, Bernama's check of the platform found that a new account using the name 'Edisi Siasat 2.0' had been created, gaining over 100,000 followers before it was blocked. MCMC said in a statement that the action is the first of its kind taken against a social media platform provider, especially since Telegram holds an Application Service (Class ) [ASP(C)] licence. Both channels were construed as spreading content that violated provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which has the potential to erode trust in (public) institutions and affect public order.
