Top 10 mutual funds to invest in June 2025

Time of India03-06-2025

Many new and relatively-inexperienced investors always look for
top mutual funds to invest in
. They ask their friends or colleagues or in some mutual fund forums for top or best schemes while starting their investment journey or while deciding to invest extra money. But most of them are not satisfied with the answers they get from the internet or friends due to different reasons.
An online search would mostly take you to some websites with ready-made lists. Most often, the schemes may be shortlisted on the basis of their short-term performance. Sometimes, the schemes from a single category may dominate the list because that category happens to be the flavour of the season.

Friends or colleagues may give you names of schemes they like or they are investing. Again, there is no guarantee the schemes are indeed suitable for you.
Some people never proceed beyond collecting names of top funds because a lingering doubt about the veracity of the names always holds them back. No wonder, many investors keep visiting mutual fund forums for validation for years - even after they start investing.
Live Events
That is why ETMutualFunds decided to put out a list of top 10 mutual fund schemes. We have chosen two schemes from five different equity mutual fund categories - aggressive hybrid, large cap, mid cap, small cap and flexi cap schemes – which we believe should be enough for regular mutual fund investors. There are caveats: read till the end to ensure you are picking up the best scheme for you.

Mirae Asset Large Cap Fund

Axis Midcap Fund
Kotak Emerging Equity Fund
Axis Small Cap Fund
SBI Small Cap Fund
SBI Equity Hybrid Fund
Mirae Asset Hybrid Equity Fund
Here are some pointers you should keep in mind while investing in these schemes. First, find out about each category and whether it is suited to your investment objective and risk profile.
Aggressive hybrid funds
Aggressive hybrid schemes (or erstwhile balanced schemes or equity-oriented hybrid schemes) are ideal for newcomers to equity mutual funds. These schemes invest in a mix of equity (65-80%) and debt (20-35). Because of this hybrid portfolio they are considered relatively less volatile than pure equity schemes. Aggressive hybrid schemes are the best investment vehicle for very conservative equity investors looking to create long-term wealth without much volatility.
Large cap funds
Some equity investors want to play safe even while investing in stocks. Large cap schemes are meant for such individuals. These schemes invest in top 100 stocks and they are relatively safer than other pure equity mutual fund schemes. They are also relatively less volatile than mid cap and small cap schemes. In short, you should invest in large cap schemes if you are looking for modest returns with relative stability.
Flexi cap funds
A regular equity investor (one with a moderate risk appetite) looking to invest in the stock market need not look beyond flexi cap
mutual funds
(or diversified equity schemes). These schemes invest across market capitalisations and sectors, based on the view of the fund manager. A regular investor can benefit from the uptrend in any of the sectors, categories of stocks by investing in these schemes.
Small cap, mid cap funds
What about aggressive investors looking to pocket extra returns by taking extra risk? Well, they can bet on mid cap and small cap schemes. Mid cap schemes invest mostly in medium-sized companies and small cap funds invest in smaller companies in terms of market capitalisation. These schemes can be volatile, but they also have the potential to offer superior returns over a long period. You can invest in these mutual fund categories if you have a long-term investment horizon and an appetite for higher risk.
Finally, any search starting with the word 'best' or 'top' is unlikely to offer you the best solution. You should always choose a scheme that matches your investment objective, horizon, and risk profile. If you do not understand the basic mutual fund concepts or are totally new to mutual funds and investing, you should always seek the help of a mutual fund advisor.

Methodology for hybrid funds:
1. Mean rolling returns:
Rolled daily for the last three years.
2. Consistency in the last three years:
Hurst Exponent, H is used for computing the consistency of a fund. The H exponent is a measure of randomness of NAV series of a fund. Funds with high H tend to exhibit low volatility compared to funds with low H.
i) When H = 0.5, the series of returns is said to be a geometric Brownian time series. This type of time series is difficult to forecast.
ii) When H <0.5, the series is said to be mean reverting.
iii) When H>0.5, the series is said to be persistent. The larger the value of H, the stronger is the trend of the series
3. Downside risk:
We have considered only the negative returns given by the mutual fund scheme for this measure.
X = Returns below zero
Y = Sum of all squares of X
Z = Y/number of days taken for computing the ratio
Downside risk = Square root of Z
4. Outperformance
i) Equity portion:
It is measured by Jensen's Alpha for the last three years. Jensen's Alpha shows the risk-adjusted return generated by a mutual fund scheme relative to the expected market return predicted by the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM). Higher Alpha indicates that the portfolio performance has outstripped the returns predicted by the market.
Average returns generated by the MF Scheme =
[Risk Free Rate + Beta of the MF Scheme * {(Average return of the index - Risk Free Rate}
ii) Debt portion:
Fund Return – Benchmark return. Rolling returns rolled daily is used for computing the return of the fund and the benchmark and subsequently the Active return of the fund.
5. Asset size:
For Hybrid funds, the threshold asset size is Rs 50 crore
Methodology for equity funds:

India's business activity surges in June on strong demand, record export orders, PMI shows

India's private sector activity accelerated sharply in June as companies ramped up production to meet surging domestic and international demand, according to a survey released on Monday that showed record export growth and robust hiring. The HSBC Flash India Composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), compiled by S&P Global, jumped to a 14-month high of 61.0 this month from 59.3 in May, exceeding a Reuters poll forecast for a modest lift to 59.4. The 50-mark separates growth from contraction and the latest data showed nearly four years of sustained expansion. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dieser einfache Trick kann den Gang verbessern Gesundheitsaktuell Mehr erfahren Undo Services gained momentum with the activity index rising to 60.7 from May's 58.8 - the strongest since August last year - while manufacturing gained pace thanks to robust output. Its PMI climbed to 58.4 in June from 57.6. "New export orders continued to fuel private sector business activity, especially in manufacturing," noted Pranjul Bhandari, chief India economist at HSBC. Live Events This expansion was driven by favorable demand as composite new orders grew at the fastest pace in 11 months. Goods producers experienced a more pronounced upturn than services firms. International sales saw a remarkable rise, with overall new export business at the highest since the data started to be collected in September 2014. However, service providers recorded slower growth in export business compared to last month. "The combination of robust global demand and rising backlogs prompted manufacturers to increase hiring," added Bhandari. Manufacturing employment growth reached a peak not seen since the series began over two decades ago. Service providers also continued adding jobs at a solid pace, albeit slower than in May. Meanwhile, overall price pressures eased slightly with input cost inflation softening to a 10-month low, allowing firms to limit price hikes to remain competitive. That resulted in a slower rate of output price rises from May's six-month high. That comes after data showed inflation eased to an over 6-year low in May, allowing the Reserve Bank of India to focus on supporting economic growth and cutting interest rates amid rising uncertainty from U.S. trade tariffs. Despite positive private sector performance, business confidence dipped to its lowest in just over two years. Manufacturers expressed slightly improved optimism while service providers tempered their expectations for the coming year.

Brewing success: Karnataka coffee shipment value soars over 60%; exporters better equipped now to tap markets, says FKCCI chief

BENGALURU: Karnataka's coffee exports have brewed up an exceptional year, soaring over 60% in 2024-25 to reach over $1.1 billion, riding on multi-year-high record prices. The surge in export value, up from $713.7 million the previous fiscal, underlines the state's continued dominance as India's premier coffee-producing state and its growing relevance in global markets. The strong export performance has come as a shot in the arm for thousands of coffee growers in the Western Ghats region, many of whom depend on global demand. The value of Karnataka's total merchandise exports climbed 14.46% to nearly $30.5 billion in 2024-25, with engineering goods maintaining their position as the state's largest export earner. According to Bose Mandanna N, former vice-chairman of Coffee Board of India, the surge was driven by production setbacks in Brazil, Vietnam and rising international demand. Exporters better equipped now to tap markets, says FKCCI chief Brazil and Vietnam are among world's biggest coffee exporters. "We've capitalised on that demand," he said, noting that India's low domestic consumption makes exports essential. Engineering exports surged 43.2% to reach more than $12 billion, up from $8.4 billion in the previous year. This performance reflects Karnataka's growing manufacturing capabilities and its emergence as a key industrial hub for sectors ranging from aerospace to automotive components. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Other standout performers included spices, which saw exports jump 31.4% to $173.5 million, and chemicals and allied products, which grew 17.4% to $176.8 million. Plastic goods exports also demonstrated strong momentum with a 16.25% increase to $283.92 million. FKCCI president Balakrishna MG, said that exporters are "now more informed" and better equipped to tap specific markets. "To our surprise, coffee exports have gone up significantly," he noted, adding that a recent visit by an Omani delegation signalled new market interest. The pharmaceutical and cosmetics sector, a traditional strength for Karnataka, recorded steady growth of 8.8% to reach $2.8 billion in exports. However, not all sectors experienced growth. Petroleum exports declined 3.3% to $5.5 billion, whilst the automobile sector saw a 5.7% drop to $1.1 billion. Agricultural and processed food exports also fell 5.4% to around $1 billion. TV Mohandas Pai, chairman, Aavin Capital Funds, emphasised the need for targeted infrastructure investment to sustain and scale export growth. "We can grow agricultural exports significantly but we need better storage, reliable transport, and proper grading and marketing support." While Karnataka's merchandise exports showed robust growth, the state's performance varied compared to other major exporting states. Tamil Nadu led with 19.5% growth, whilst traditional export powerhouses Gujarat and Maharashtra saw declines of 13.4% and 2%, respectively. Despite fluctuations in some commodities like cashew and silk, Pai said the overall outlook remains positive. "Coffee is doing very well - not necessarily due to volume, but because prices have shot up due to a global shortage."
