Yahoo24-02-2025

Feb. 24—The U.S. Air Force announced on Sunday that Kirtland Air Force Base Airman Basic Brion Teel-Scott, 27, of Bordentown, New Jersey, was killed during a shooting incident outside the Truman Gate. Teel-Scott was assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron.
"Losing a member of your team is never easy but the circumstances of this incident make it that much harder," said Col. Michael Power, 377th Air Base Wing and Installation commander, in a news release, "Additionally, we are ensuring our injured defender, the Wingmen of both members, and our base community receive the best possible care and support."
A KAFB news release said members of the 377th Security Forces Squadron responded around 2 a.m. Saturday to "an incident" involving an airman at the Truman Gate, which is off Gibson, west of San Mateo.
The initial encounter led to KAFB security chasing the airman off base and ending with "shots fired" by security members, according to the release, leaving the airman dead and a security member injured.
The Air Force Office of Special Investigations is the lead investigative agency, according to the Air Force.

Rodney Scott confirmed as head of CBP by US Senate despite ‘cover-up' claim

The US Senate on Wednesday confirmed Rodney Scott as commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), despite a former top official accusing him of orchestrating a 'cover-up' over the death of a man detained while trying to enter the country from Mexico. Scott was confirmed on a party-line vote, with 51 Republicans in favor and 46 Democrats opposed, along with three absences. 'I'm honored that the United States Senate has confirmed me, and I want to thank President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem for their trust and unwavering leadership,' Scott said in a statement following the vote. 'I started my career on the frontlines, and now I am ready to lead my CBP family with integrity and a clear mission to defend our sovereignty, enforce the law, and put America first.' He will take charge of one of the largest federal law enforcement agencies, which staffs ports of entry across the United States and also includes the border patrol, which he led from 2020 to 2021. Related: Trump orders Ice raids on farms and hotels after pausing them days earlier Border patrol agents have recently been seen on the streets of a Los Angeles suburb as part of Trump's campaign to arrest suspected undocumented immigrants. Massive protests have broken out in response, and CBP has publicly announced that it is using drones to monitor demonstrations in the region. A critic of Joe Biden's immigration policies and supporter of Trump's desire to build a wall along the border with Mexico, Scott was nominated by Trump in December to lead CBP. Shortly before his confirmation hearing before the Senate finance committee in April, James Wong, a former deputy assistant commissioner of CBP's office of internal affairs, wrote to the committee's top Democrat with 'concern' about Scott's handling of the investigation into the 2010 death of Anastasio Hernández Rojas in San Diego, after he was beaten and tased by CBP agents who were preparing to deport him. As San Diego's police department was investigating the death, a CBP critical incident team used a subpoena to obtain Hernández Rojas's medical records, which Wong said Scott would have known about given his position at the time as a top border patrol official in the city. 'The use of a CBP administrative subpoena for this purpose was blatantly unlawful, and anyone signing it should have known that,' Wong wrote in a letter to the committee's Democratic ranking member, Ron Wyden. 'This was not an investigation, it was a cover-up – one Mr Scott supervised. This abuse of power disqualifies him from leading one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the country.' At the hearing, Scott described the subpoena as 'information gathering' and a standard part of such investigations. Asked by the Republican finance committee chair, Mike Crapo, if he had acted 'to interfere with the investigation of that case', Scott replied: 'Absolutely not.' In 2021, a House oversight committee report found that Scott was a member of 'I'm 10-15', a private Facebook group for border patrol agents in which participants insulted members of Congress and posted 'racist and sexually violent content' directed at lawmakers. Scott told the finance committee: 'There were 9,000 people on that group. To say that a few that actually posted something inappropriate, were held accountable, and were disciplined are a reflection of everyone else on that group, I think, is just a [mischaracterization].' When the committee convened again in May before voting to advance his nomination to the Senate floor, Wyden warned Scott would act as a loyalist for the president: 'We don't need to question what Mr Scott would do if given a questionable order from Donald Trump, because we already know he has a history of covering up the truth when it benefits him in a willingness to enable Donald Trump's worst impulses to target American citizens exercising their constitutional rights.' Crapo said Scott 'knows what policies make CBP effective, and I'm confident he will implement these policies as soon as he is confirmed'.

Scott and Kelley Wolf drama takes disturbing twist with choking allegations months before divorce filing

Police were informed about a past alleged choking incident on the day Scott Wolf's wife was detained and taken to a hospital. The alleged altercation reportedly went down three months before the 'Party of Five' actor filed for divorce on June 9 after 21 years of marriage. When officers arrived at Scott and Kelley's Utah residence on June 13 over an alleged 'verbal dispute,' an unnamed male detailed a 'past-occurred assault' that he said happened on March 6, according to a report taken by the Summit County Sheriff's Office. 9 Getty Images In the heavily redacted documents obtained by Us Weekly, the individual reported someone allegedly 'putting her hands around his neck' but noted they 'did not choke him hard enough to restrict blood or air flow.' 'After a few minutes of conversation, [the alleged victim] stated that [the individual's] attempt to choke him may have caused air and [blood] flow restriction for a small moment. [The alleged victim] stated [the individual] did this in their bedroom while he was laying in bed in the presence of [a third party]. [The alleged victim] stated he did not receive any injuries, marks or bruises from the incident,' the report detailing the alleged March incident read. The document also shed light on the June 13 alleged disturbance, in which an unnamed female claimed their brother-in-law was trespassing. The person claimed they wanted him removed; however, officers were later told that the brother-in-law had permission to be there by one of the homeowners. Kelley claimed she was 'taken against' her will by police on June 13 and later hospitalized following a 911 call in which the caller alleged someone was blocking their driveway and not allowing them to enter the home, per a report made public on Tuesday. 9 WireImage The call lasted for around 15 minutes and was placed at 2:50 a.m. Scott's ex shared her run-in with cops on her Instagram Live last week. In the video, two officers are seen with Kelley, with one of them informing her she wasn't going to jail and they were there to get her 'some help.' 9 WireImage During the live, an officer was heard telling Kelley she 'made some comments to your dad and comments to people that are concerning,' and they 'want to make sure you're okay.' Law enforcement later confirmed that 'deputies responded to the Sundance Resort for a report of a female that needed some help.' 'Upon speaking with the female, our Deputies learned that she had made concerning comments to a family member, and she also made similar comments to our Deputies,' they told People in a statement. 'For that reason, our Deputies transported the female to a local hospital.' 9 WireImage Kelley addressed the incident, calling it 'one of the darkest things I've ever experienced.' 'This is horrible. I have been taken against my will. Please check in on my kids,' she wrote on her Instagram Stories. 'Also … I am happy!! Happier than I have ever been. I have NO idea why or how this is happening in AMERICA.' Following her hospitalization, an officer reportedly contacted the alleged choking victim to ask if they wanted to press charges, but they declined, reported Us Weekly. 9 Getty Images for Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights 9 Scott Wolf/Instagram '[The alleged victim] stated that he … no longer wished to pursue charges because of some recent developments involving [redacted] that he believed would provide them some solutions. I provided [him] with my email address and told him to contact me if he changes his mind. No further action was taken,' the report read. Scott filed for divorce on June 9, ending over two decades of marriage. 'After 21 years of marriage, I have made the most difficult decision of my life, and filed for divorce from my wife Kelley,' the star said in a statement to The Post. 'Our children have always been, and continue to be, the loves of our lives and our every priority, so I kindly ask for privacy at this time as we help guide them through this new chapter.' The 'Party of Five' actor — who played Bailey Salinger on the hit series — married Kelley in 2004 after meeting her in 2002 following her stints on MTV's 'The Real World: New Orleans' and 'The Real World/Road Rules Challenge.' Scott and Kelley share three children.

Former Iowa state librarian sentenced for sending lewd videos to officer posing as teen

The former state librarian of Iowa has been sentenced to probation after sending lewd photos to a police officer posing as a teen online. Michael Scott, 55, of Clive was arrested in November after police said he used the KiK messaging app to send photos and videos of masturbation to someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy but was actually a sheriff's deputy in Orange County, Florida. The conversation, which Scott initiated, had begun in August, police said. Scott since 2014 had held the position of state librarian, a position that supports public libraries across the state and oversees millions of dollars in state and federal money. The Department of Administrative Services, which oversees the librarian's office, said his employment ended after his arrest, and the state is currently seeking a replacement. Dallas County prosecutors charged Scott with three misdemeanor counts of disseminating obscene material to minors. In April, he agreed to plead guilty to two of those charges. On June 12, he appeared before Judge Erica Crisp for sentencing, and was sentenced to two years of probation in lieu of four years in prison. Prosecutors had sought a prison sentence, arguing in court filings that Scott had used his position as a librarian to gain his supposed victim's trust, and claiming he had not shown any signs of remorse. Scott's attorney declined to comment after the sentencing. William Morris covers courts for the Des Moines Register. He can be contacted at wrmorris2@ or 715-573-8166.
