ILO ranks India 2nd in social security for poor
Geneva: India has achieved a historic milestone in recording a 45 percentage point jump in the social security coverage of its population over the last decade to cover 94 crore people and is now being ranked second in the world on the dashboard of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
According to the latest ILO data, India's social security coverage has increased from 19 per cent in 2015 to 64.3 per cent in 2025, an unprecedented 45 percentage point surge over the past decade.
ILO has acknowledged India's achievement and officially published on its dashboard that 64.3 per cent of India's population, i.e. over 94 crore people, are now covered under at least one social protection benefit.
Director General ILO praised India's focussed welfare policies for the poor and labour class under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. ILO's Criteria for Scheme Consideration for each country include that the scheme should be legislatively backed, in cash and be active, and verified time series data of last three years has to be provided.
While holding a bilateral discussion with the Director General, ILO, Gilbert F Houngbo on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference (ILC), India's Minister of Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the pro-poor and labour welfare schemes undertaken by the Modi government over the past 11 years. The Minister also apprised DG ILO about the national-level Social Protection Data Pooling Exercise that has been carried out by the Government in collaboration with the ILO. Mandaviya said, 'This remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the relentless efforts of the Government in building an inclusive and rights-based social protection ecosystem. The increase marks the fastest expansion in social protection coverage worldwide, reflecting the Government's unwavering commitment to 'Antyodaya' i.e., empowering the last mile and fulfilling the promise of leaving no one behind.'
The present figure reflects only Phase I of the data pooling exercise. This phase focussed on beneficiary data of Central sector schemes and women-centric schemes in selected 8 States.

Arvind Shukla, a researcher from Hebrew University who was evacuated on Sunday morning, praised "the smooth and carefully planned process" by the embassy under "difficult circumstances", and told PTI: "I have completed the visa process and have already moved to the Jordanian side. The embassy was extremely helpful in facilitating our journey, and we were looked after well." The Israeli and Jordanian governments extended crucial support in ensuring the safe and orderly transit of Indian nationals across the border, the mission in Tel Aviv said. The Embassy of India in Jordan played a key role in receiving the evacuees at the border to further facilitate their onward journey to Amman Airport, it said. Special flights from Amman to New Delhi have been arranged by the Ministry of External Affairs to safely fly Indian nationals home. "These efforts reflect not only India's growing global stature but also its operational readiness and deep sense of responsibility toward its diaspora," an embassy official said. "The Government of India continues to accord the highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad. The government will continue to monitor the situation closely. The embassy remains continuously in touch with the community to extend all feasible assistance," the official said. The Indian mission in Israel once again reached out to its citizens on Sunday to register for ongoing updates and assistance, and provided a 24/7 helpline number. There are over 40,000 Indian nationals in Israel working as caregivers, construction workers, students, professionals and others.

AP: Government to hold review meeting on completion of 1 year in office

Chandrababu Naidu headed Andhra Pradesh Government will conduct a special meeting titled 'First Step towards Good Governance' on June 23 in Amaravati, near here. The event will be held on a specially arranged dais behind the Secretariat. Originally scheduled for June 12, the meeting was postponed due to the tragic plane crash near Ahmedabad. In tomorrow's session, the government will review administrative reforms introduced over the past year, changes implemented, welfare measures delivered, and efforts made towards the state's development. A key focus will be on how to realize people's aspirations and meet developmental targets over the next four years. The district Collectors, SPs, HODs, Secretaries, MLAs, Ministers, and MPs from all 26 districts will participate in the event being held in Amaravati. State government to amend rules related to various departments to spur investments
The State government is set to amend several rules related to various departments with an aim to spur more investments. The decision comes in the wake of the Invest Kerala Global Summit organised by the Industries department. A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan decided to expedite further steps in this regard. As many as 31 rules and policies related to various departments are expected to be amended. The policies and rules related to the Departments of Local Self-Government, Revenue, Electricity, Environment, Labour, Agriculture, Higher Education, and General Policies and Rules will be updated or amended in such a way as to make them investment-friendly, according to a release issued on Sunday. Relaxations will be made to the norms regarding the width of entrance in the Kerala Building Rules 2019. It has also been decided to increase the maximum permissible area of buildings for industrial purposes in Category II Panchayats. Building permit The list of supporting documents required for applying for a building permit on leased land will be revised. The registered lease agreement will be considered as a document for building ownership. The guidelines for regularisation of constructions made under the Kerala MSME Facilitation Act, 2019 will be revised. Amendments have also been proposed in the guidelines for local self-government bodies to accept licenses and deemed licenses issued under the provisions of the Kerala Industrial Single Window Clearance Boards and the Industrial Township Area Development Act, 1999. The norms for mandatory parking facilities for resorts and hotels in the tourism and hospitality sector will be relaxed. For this, the norms for calculating the area of the building will be revised. Consideration will be given to granting permission for expansion by following the building construction rules applicable at the time of the establishment of the enterprise. Task force A task force is also being considered in the Local Self-Government department to give priority to the expressions of interest received at the Invest Kerala Global Summit. As many as 13 amendments to the rules related to the Local Self-Government department are being considered. A decision will be taken in consultation with the Finance department regarding the removal of the provision for payment of additional fees in the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008. The Unique Thandaper Number system will be expedited for transparent and efficient land use. The land conversion applications related to the projects which came up at the Invest Kerala Global Summit will be expedited and considered on priority basis. The confusion in the order regarding the consideration of the Ministerial Committee regarding land ownership above 15 acres for industrial purposes will be resolved. A circular will be issued clarifying the powers of Agriculture Officers regarding change of land type. Training will also be provided to Agriculture Officers. Consideration will be given to revising the fees for permits of the Kerala State Pollution Control Board. The validity period of registration certificates under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act will be increased. Streamline procedures It was decided to consider proposals to simplify land conversion procedures to facilitate investments, a proposal to streamline the procedures of the Forest and Wildlife department to issue various permits and certificates quickly and transparently, and a proposal to make technical education industry-oriented and strengthen skill development. The amendments are aimed at addressing the shortage of land for industrial use, simplifying the procedures for land acquisition and clearances and formulating rules to expedite clearances related to various departments.
