Braves Receive Major Ronald Acuna News on Thursday
The Atlanta Braves kicked off the 2025 campaign looking to rebound from a somewhat underwhelming 2024 season.
After six consecutive National League East titles from 2018 through 2023, the Braves saw their division streak come to an end, ultimately finishing 89-73 and in second place behind the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite clinching a Wild Card spot, they were swept in two games by the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Series, marking an abrupt end to what had been, by their standards, a disappointing year.
Injuries played a significant role in Atlanta's 2024 woes.
Most notably, star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. suffered a complete tear of his left anterior cruciate ligament on May 26, 2024, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of that season.
However, on Thursday, the Braves announced on X that Acuña, "is expected to be activated from the injured list tomorrow," noting how "his return will be 362 days following the ACL injury he sustained last season."
In 2024, prior to the injury, Acuña had appeared in just 49 games, posting a .250 batting average with four home runs, 15 runs batted in, and 16 stolen bases.

A native of La Guaira, Venezuela, Acuña signed with Atlanta as an international free agent in 2014, and in 2018, he made his major league debut, becoming the youngest active MLB player (20 years old). He captured the National League Rookie of the Year Award by season's end.
He followed this up with four All-Star selections (2019, 2021-2023), three Silver Slugger awards (2019, 2020, 2023) and two National League stolen base titles (2019, 2023).

In 2023, Acuña won the NL MVP following a historic 40-70 season (41 home runs, 73 stolen bases) that made him the first player in MLB history to join the 40-70 club and set a modern-era franchise stolen base record.

Through the end of the 2024 season, Acuña's career line stood at a .289 batting average, 165 homers, 417 RBIs, and 196 stolen bases over 815 hits.

Red Sox Predicted to Replace Jarren Duran With Power Bat After Trade Rumors
Red Sox Predicted to Replace Jarren Duran With Power Bat After Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Trade rumors have been flying about Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. They have only ramped up since Rafael Devers was dealt to the San Francisco Giant, as the organization now appears to be heading towards a youth movement at the MLB Trade Deadline. Advertisement According to Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo, the Red Sox may have their replacement for Duran waiting in the draft at the 15th overall spot. That player? Auburn University's Ike Irish. Irish is a powerful left-handed bat who has proven ability at the plate against top-tier collegiate pitching in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He stands 6'2", weighing 201 lbs. The junior out of Hudsonville, Michigan is the highest projected outfielder and catcher among both high school and collegiate prospects in Mayo and Callis' mock draft. "Boston can stick Irish in the outfield and let his athleticism and bat play," Callis and Mayo wrote. In 2024 he slugged a monster .710, with progression towards that number after each of his first two seasons. currently has Irish ranked as the 21st overall prospect in the draft, but once the College World Series concludes the rankings could be updated. The Red Sox could use a more polished bat out of the draft, and the college prospect could fill a need at a corner outfield position. The 2025 MLB Draft is being held on July 13 and 14. Five things to know about Chase Burns facing the Yankees in his MLB debut
Cincinnati Reds top prospect Chase Burns, the second overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, is set to make his MLB debut Tuesday against Carlos Rodon and the New York Yankees after just 13 minor-league starts. Burns made his pro debut in April for the Single-A Dayton Dragons. He was promoted to Triple-A Louisville on June 9 and made two starts for the Bats. Advertisement In May, Burns climbed 12 spots to No. 11 in MLB Pipeline's latest top 100 rankings. Reds top pitching prospect Chase Burns What to know about Burns facing the Yankees in his first big-league start: Burns is set to become the first pitcher from the 2024 first round to debut. Four players selected in the first round of the 2024 draft - the Athletics' Nick Kurtz, the Royals' Jac Caglianone, the Angels' Christian Moore and the Astros' Cam Smith (drafted by the Cubs) - have made their MLB debuts. But Burns' start against the Yankees would be the first in the big-leaguers by a pitcher selected in the 2024 first round. Kurtz, the fourth overall selection in 2024, was Burns' teammate at Wake Forest. Burns is the same age Rhett Lowder was when he debuted for the Reds in 2024. Lowder, the 7th overall pick in the 2023 draft who also pitched at Wake Forest, was 22 years, 175 days old when he made his big-league debut for Cincinnati on August 30, 2024, against the Brewers. Advertisement Burns' age, as of his expected June 24 MLB debut, will be 22 years, 159 days. Burns and Lowder were not teammates for the Demon Deacons. While Lowder pitched for three seasons at Wake, Burns only pitched there for one season, after pitching his first two college seasons for the Tennessee Volunteers. Burns' last Triple-A start before his promotion came against the Yankees' Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. In his second start for Louisville, Burns impressed against the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate, striking out seven while allowing just three hits and a run with no walks in seven innings in the Bats' 8-1 win. Only one player on the Yankees' active roster is younger than Burns. Outfielder Jasson Dominguez was born February 7, 2003, less than one month after Burns' birthdate. Advertisement Dominguez, who debuted in 2023 at age 20, didn't face the Reds during his first three MLB seasons. Aaron Judge has homered each of the past three seasons against the Reds. Burns is looking to help Cincinnati hold Judge in check. Judge entered June 22 with 27 home runs, trailing only the Seattle Mariners' Cal Raleigh for the MLB lead this season. In 41 career plate appearances against Cincinnati, Judge has batted .324 with three home runs. Of the three pitchers Judge homered against - Jeff Hoffman, Ben Lively and Sam Moll - only Moll still plays for the Reds. Diamondbacks Sign Former All-Star to Major League Contract After Injury to Gabriel Moreno
Diamondbacks Sign Former All-Star to Major League Contract After Injury to Gabriel Moreno originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Arizona Diamondbacks are just one game above .500 after their 4-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Advertisement Arizona has been attempting to stay afloat in the NL West, but the 2024 World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, have maintained a consistent lead in the division. It's been difficult for the Diamondbacks this season, as they have been battling a list of injuries that have plagued the entire team. The Diamondbacks' injury troubles began with Ketel Marte's hamstring strain, which sidelined him for most of April. The setbacks continued with season-ending Tommy John surgeries for pitcher Corbin Burnes and A.J. Puk. Most recently, catcher Gabriel Moreno was placed on the 10-day injured list after suffering a fracture to his right index finger on June 14. Advertisement It's been announced that the Diamondbacks are looking to add a veteran catcher to help replace the injury to Gabriel Moreno and have signed former All-Star James McCann. James McCann hasn't appeared in a major league game in 2025. His last outing came in last October when he started for the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card series against the Kansas City Royals. Since earning All-Star honors in 2019 with the Chicago White Sox, McCann has played more than 69 games in a season just once. A combination of injuries and inconsistent at-bats has limited his time on the field. After turning 35 earlier this month, McCann will be playing for his fifth team in 12 seasons in the major leagues. Advertisement In 920 games played in the MLB, James McCann's career statistics include a .241 BA, .293 OBP, .380 SLG, and .673 OPS while hitting 92 home runs and 373 RBI. He will join the Arizona Diamondbacks as they travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox in a three-game series starting on Monday.
