India slams OIC for 'unwarranted' references to it
India on Monday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) for making "unwarranted" and "factually incorrect" references to it while coming under influence of Pakistan , which turned terrorism into "statecraft". India's strong reactions came after a two-day foreign ministerial conclave of the OIC in Turkiye criticised New Delhi on a range of issues including what it said is "social marginalisation" of Indian Muslims. The OIC also called for strict adherence to bilateral pacts between India and Pakistan, including the Indus Waters Treaty and stressed the need for a broad-based dialogue for peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Chi phí cấy ghép răng là bao nhiêu vào năm 2025 (kiểm tra giá) Cấy ghép răng | Quảng cáo tìm kiếm Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "India categorically rejects the unwarranted and factually incorrect references to India at the OIC council of foreign ministers' meeting," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement. "These statements, driven by Pakistan, which has turned terrorism into statecraft, reflect the continued misuse of the OIC platform for narrow political ends," it said. Live Events The MEA said the OIC's repeated "failure" to acknowledge the real and documented threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan, most recently evidenced in the heinous Pahalgam attack , reflects a "wilful disregard" for facts. It said "the OIC has no locus standi to comment on India's internal affairs, including Jammu and Kashmir , which is an integral and sovereign part of India -- a fact enshrined in the Indian Constitution and irreversibly settled." "The OIC should reflect deeply on the perils of allowing Pakistan's propaganda to hijack and politicise its agenda. Any other course can only undermine the OIC's credibility and relevance," the MEA said. It said India also "outrightly rejects" Pakistan's baseless allegation of "unprovoked and unjustified military aggression". "India's Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack was a precise and legitimate act of self-defence against terrorist camps operating from Pakistani territory," the MEA said. "It is absurd for Pakistan to speak of targeting only Indian military installations when its retaliatory attempts not only failed but recklessly endangered civilian lives and property and ended up causing several deaths and injuries among the civilian population. "It is also ironic that Pakistan, a country with an abysmal human rights record and a history of sheltering, breeding and empowering terrorists, should lecture others on counter-terrorism and human rights," it said. The MEA said the comments made by Pakistan at the OIC meeting are nothing more than a "desperate attempt" to deflect international attention from its own appalling record of "state-sponsored terrorism, minority persecution and sectarian violence, apart from failure of governance".

‘Embarassing': SAD rebels ask Sukhbirto step down for ‘defeats after defeats'
Chandigarh: With Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman finishing fourth in the Ludhiana West bypoll and forfeiting his security deposit, the rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders sharpened their attack on SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal . They said his leadership, "both as the party president and now as the head of a faction", was thoroughly rejected by the community. Calling the SAD led by Badal "a faction", former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, in a written statement, said the "defeats after defeats", including the forfeiture of deposits, clearly showed that Sukhbir had already lost his leadership as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal and now had lost the moral right to lead even as the head of a faction. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, for which SAD fielded candidates on all 13 seats in Punjab, 10 candidates ended up losing security deposits. Ever since it was voted out of power in the 2017 Punjab elections after a consecutive two-term rule in the state since 2007 along with BJP, SAD's political graph has continued to slide, getting worse and pushing the party into an existential crisis. Dissident party leaders have been blaming Sukhbir for the downfall of the now over 104-year-old regional party, which could win only 15 seats in 2017 and merely three in 2022 in the 117-member Punjab vidhan sabha. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Por qué está en boca de todos esta inteligencia artificial que hace dinero? ofertas especiales Registrarse Undo Expressing concern over Ghumman's defeat, which he described as "embarrassing", Dhindsa and another party rebel and former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra, in a joint statement said: "Despite a significant number of Sikh voters in the constituency, the humiliating defeat and forfeiture of the candidate's deposit clearly indicate that Sikh voters are very dissatisfied." Dhindsa and Rakhra noted that votes polled by the SAD candidate "included a large portion based on the candidate's character and work, as he served as the bar president five times and fought major cases for free to ensure justice". The Ludhiana West bypoll was the first major electoral campaign for Badal after his re-election as SAD president on April 12. His re-election as SAD president was much to the annoyance of a group of dissidents who rejected the membership drive conducted by SAD, which eventually led to Badal getting re-elected as party president. In action after a long hiatus, Badal was declared tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct) by Akal Takht. He then resigned as party president before getting re-elected again. For this bypoll, Badal went all out, camping in the city for about a month and campaigning hard for the candidate. Citing the Dec 2, 2024, directions by the Akal Takht, a five-member committee is carrying out a membership drive for what it calls the real and revived Shiromani Akali Dal. The committee members and other party rebels accuse Badal of being "fugitive" from the Akal Takht. Dhindsa and Rakhra have asked Sukhbir to relinquish the control of SAD. "No representative of the Shiromani Akali Dal should be a fugitive from the Akal Takht Sahib, as this is intolerable to the Sikh community and Punjabis. Therefore, without delay, the representative group of the community (Shiromani Akali Dal) should be handed over to the community," they said. "Sukhbir should have stepped aside from active politics after the recommendations of the Jhundan Committee report. However, his stubbornness and one-man show political strategy have led to this embarrassing defeat," Rakhra added. SAD leader Iqbal Singh Jhundan-led committee, which submitted its report in 2022, was formed on the directions of Sukhbir to look into the reasons for SAD poll debacles and suggest remedial measures. It had recommended sweeping changes. Jhundan is now among the Akali dissidents and a member of the five-member committee carrying out the membership drive. Rakhra advised Badal to "respect the public's verdict". Dhindsa added, "Respecting the public's verdict is the first quality of leadership, but repeatedly disregarding it shows political ignorance." BOX Rakhra refers to 2015 pardon In an apparent reference to the controversial pardon to Dera Sacha Sauda chief by the Akal Takht in 2015, Rakhra stated, "The political downfall that began with the 2015 disregard of the 2007 edict will not stop until genuine repentance is sought for the disobedience of both the 2007 and Dec 2 edicts, as rebels against the takht always face setbacks." The 2015 pardon effectively overturned an earlier Akal Takht edict dating to 2007, where the supreme authority of Sikhism ordered Sikhs to snap all ties with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh (now a rape and murder convict in jail) as he allegedly committed blasphemy in the sect's dera in Salabatpura in Bathinda in May 2007 by imitating Guru Gobind Singh in a ceremony similar to the creation of Khalsa.
