said on Saturday.
His wife Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who took over the opposition cause after his jailing, shared a video of him smiling and embracing her after his release with the caption: "FREE".

Shah reaches Varanasi, to chair central zonal council meet today
Varanasi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday arrived in Varanasi to chair the 25th Central Zonal Council meeting to be attended by chief ministers and officials of four states, on Tuesday. Shah was welcomed by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. In a post in Hindi on X, Yogi said, "Hearty welcome to the honourable Union home and cooperation minister Shri Amit Shah ji in the holy city of Kashi, the abode of Devadidev Mahadev!" Varanasi divisional commissioner S Rajlingam said that following the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all preparations had been made for the meeting. UP CM Yogi Adityanath, along with his counterparts Pushkar Singh Dhami from Uttarakhand, Mohan Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Vishnu Deo Sai from Chhattisgarh, besides ministers and officials from these states, will participate in the meeting. Among these members, the CM of one member state (rotating every year) acts as the vice-chairperson. From each member state, the governor nominates two ministers as members of the council. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised the need to leverage cooperative and competitive federalism for the all-round development of the country. With the belief that strong states make a strong nation, the zonal councils provide a structured mechanism for dialogue and discussion on issues affecting two or more states or the Centre and states, and through this, serve as an important platform to enhance cooperation," an official said. The zonal councils discuss broad issues of national importance, including the speedy investigation of cases of sexual offences against women and children and the implementation of fast track special courts (FTSC) for swift disposal; providing banking facilities in villages; implementation of Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112); and various regional-level issues like strengthening nutrition, education, health, electricity, urban planning, and cooperative system.

India slams OIC for 'unwarranted' references to it
India on Monday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) for making "unwarranted" and "factually incorrect" references to it while coming under influence of Pakistan , which turned terrorism into "statecraft". India's strong reactions came after a two-day foreign ministerial conclave of the OIC in Turkiye criticised New Delhi on a range of issues including what it said is "social marginalisation" of Indian Muslims. "India's Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack was a precise and legitimate act of self-defence against terrorist camps operating from Pakistani territory," the MEA said. "It is absurd for Pakistan to speak of targeting only Indian military installations when its retaliatory attempts not only failed but recklessly endangered civilian lives and property and ended up causing several deaths and injuries among the civilian population. "It is also ironic that Pakistan, a country with an abysmal human rights record and a history of sheltering, breeding and empowering terrorists, should lecture others on counter-terrorism and human rights," it said. The MEA said the comments made by Pakistan at the OIC meeting are nothing more than a "desperate attempt" to deflect international attention from its own appalling record of "state-sponsored terrorism, minority persecution and sectarian violence, apart from failure of governance".

Chandigarh: With Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman finishing fourth in the Ludhiana West bypoll and forfeiting his security deposit, the rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders sharpened their attack on SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal . They said his leadership, "both as the party president and now as the head of a faction", was thoroughly rejected by the community.
