Golden Girls actress Lynn Hamilton dies aged 95
American also starred in sitcom Sanford and Son and the The Waltons
Actress Lynn Hamilton, best known for her roles in Sanford and Son, The Golden Girls and the The Waltons has died aged 95.
Her former manager and publicist, Rev. Calvin Carson, confirmed she died peacefully on Thursday of natural causes in her Chicago home.
In a statement, he said: 'Without profound gratitude and admiration, we celebrate the extraordinary life of iconic actress Alzenia 'Lynn' Hamilton-Jenkins, whose remarkable legacy continues to uplift and inspire.
'Her illustrious career, spanning over five decades, has left an indelible mark on the world of entertainment, motivating audiences across the globe through her work as a model, stage, film and television actress.'
The post said that her 'captivating performances' continue to 'inspire new generations'.
The statement added that Lynn was the recipient of the NAACP Award. It described the achievement as a 'testament to her outstanding contributions' to the industry.

Lynn starred as Verdie Foster in the Waltons, with her having appeared on the CBS show from 1973 to 1981. The character becomes friends with the titular family and is said to have featured in more than a dozen episodes.
The Mirror reports that she is also credited with playing Trudy in an episode of the Golden Girls in 1988. Trudy was introduced as the aunt of Lorraine Wagner (Rosalind Cash), who married Michael Zbornak (Scott Jacoby), the son of Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur).
She also appeared in numerous other shows over the course of her career. Her credits include playing cousin Georgia Anderson in Roots: The Next Generation in 1979 and Judge P. Fulton in the Practice from 1997 to 2002.
Lynn is said to have also worked alongside her late husband Frank S. Jenkins, who died aged 89 in 2014, over the years.
She had married the poet and playwright in 1964.
Their partnership was referred to as a 'shining example of creativity, love and dedication' in the statement released this weekened.
Tributes were paid to Lynn on social media. One person wrote on X: 'Oh no, what a loss. She was wonderful in everything she did. Rest in peace, Lynn Hamilton.'
Another said: 'Lynn Hamilton brought dignity and grace to her memorable performances. Rest in Peace.'

Liverpool music festival halted after Sting's support suffers 'cardiac arrest' live on stage
Sting said the musician is 'in his prayers' as he took to the stage for the final night of 2025 On The Waterfront festival. Sting's support group The Christians had a gig in Liverpool halted mid-performance when the drummer collapsed and suffered a 'cardiac arrest'. Garry Christian had been fronting the band at a gig when he stopped and called for medical help for his bandmate. A privacy screen was then erected on the stage, as emergency responders raced to the scene. The musician was then treated at the venue before being raced to hospital. A woman who is believed to be the band's manager, Emma Bridget, announced an emotional update to the shocked crowd. She said: 'We're really hoping he is going to make it. He didn't have a pulse, he's got one now, we think. Thank you so much." The band had been performing at Liverpool's Pier Head when the drama unfolded. Emma went on: 'I'm just so sorry because Garry loves Liverpool and he wanted to put on the show of his life and we're really devastated but thank you so much.' A message was then displayed to fans after the ordeal, which read: 'We appreciate your patience and understanding. Medical staff are with the performer, and we will provide an update as soon as we can.' The group had been performing at the final night of the 2025 On The Waterfront festival. The BBC expert has been open and honest in the past about Clementine's health struggles, despite finding it hard to understand at first. Now that she's in recovery, Clementine wants to raise awareness and support others who are facing the same challenges she's experienced. Phillip shared his own struggles to comprehend what she was going through. He said: 'A s a dad, it's been very difficult, I've found it very hard to understand. "I've spent 62 years enjoying eating and it's very hard not to say 'Just eat, it's easy'." He also reflected on the progress his daughter made, admitting she's 'come through this on her own'. But Phillip candidly admitted his family are not out of the woods yet, and there are still tough situations to navigate. He added: 'Christmas a very difficult time of year because people suffering with anorexia get booze and food shoved at them - and that's very hard to deal with." Phillip's daughter first stepped into the public spotlight with her journey back in 2020 when she took to social media to post a comparison image of herself. In one of the pictures, she was at the height of the devastating illness, and in the second recent snap, she looked happier and healthier and working towards healing, as reports Devon Live. Brave Clementine aimed to empower others with her words, and said: "Never think you can't escape." She then went on to detail her battles with anorexia and bulimia, explaining she thinks the catalyst was the end of a significant relationship. She believes the internal turmoil led to feeling disassociated from her life. She disclosed that in 2011, she made herself vomit 'about eight times' on New Year's Eve, waking up on New Year's Day "full of shame and utter self loathing". I was TOTALLY consumed by the eating disorder, addicted to it, addicted to counting calories and 'burning off' what I could. I weighed EVERYTHING. I counted the calories in EVERYTHING. I hated what I'd become but I was petrified of giving up that addiction." She said her journey to recovery has felt painfully slow at times as she added: "After a long, and at times sooooo painfully slow, recovery I'm here, where I am now... I will always talk about eating disorders, and I'll always be honest. I don't post things like this for any praise or anything like that but to show others that you can get your life back." She said she is now committed to raising awareness about eating disorders. She went on: "I will always talk about eating disorders, and I'll always be honest. I don't post things like this for any praise or anything like that but to show others that you can get your life back. And also because I genuinely believe EDs are still very misunderstood and that kills me a bit. 'This is a hard time to go through, especially if you have an eating disorder but know that there can be life on the other side. And know that you really are strong enough to get there."
