Outlander's Lauren Lyle admits she's ‘extremely grateful' in heartfelt tribute

Outlander's Lauren Lyle addressed the show's "impact"
Outlander star Lauren Lyle has offered a heartfelt tribute to the series, praising its remarkable worldwide acclaim, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
Best known for portraying Marsali Fraser on the Starz programme, Lyle expressed her appreciation for being part of such a successful show at the special Outlander and Blood of My Blood: The Gathering event hosted by Starz.

The 31 year old Glaswegian actress reflected on the powerful impact the show has had, recounting her encounters with fans who have experienced profound changes in their lives due to the series.

"I think with this fandom, I remember the first time meeting some of these people who this show has changed their lives, or they've made so many friends through it, or it's got them through grief, or something.
"And I had no idea the impact that the stories and the characters and all of it has had."
Speaking with nostalgia and admiration, Lyle observed how significant it was to discover she was part of something that held deep meaning for many.
"And I think it was quite profound to learn that you're a part of something that is as meaningful as that."

She expressed her wishes that the cast of the spin-off Outlander: Blood of My Blood would share similar experiences.
"So I hope [the cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood] all get to experience that as well."
Lyle concluded with gratitude and recognition of the unique nature of the show's success.

"I think it's a really special and also a very unique anomaly to be a part of. So I don't know, I'm extremely grateful."
The actor's comments were made during a panel that united the casts of both Outlander and Blood of My Blood, where discussions delved into all aspects of the Fraser and MacKenzie saga.
August will see the premiere of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, narrating two epic romances, one unfolding in the 17th century Scottish Highlands and the other amidst World War One.

Claire Fraser's (portrayed by Caitríona Balfe) parents Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) are at the heart of the 20th century love story, while Jamie Fraser's (Sam Heughan) parents Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) form the central romantic pair in the past.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood isn't tied to any original material, giving the writers more creative freedom, especially when it comes to the narrative of Claire's parents.

While Jamie has shared the passionate history of Brian and Ellen with Claire, Henry and Julia remain enigmatic.
The 10-episode series is set to provide some clarity for Outlander fans, with time travel likely playing a role in connecting the two love stories.

Lyle was notably missing from Outlander's seventh season, with both Marsali and Fergus Fraser (played by César Domboy) absent from the plot.
However, both Lyle and Domboy will be back for the eighth and final season, having confirmed their return for one last appearance.
Both actors have seen their careers take off thanks to Outlander, with Lyle now leading ITV detective drama Karen Pirie, as well as featuring in Vigil, Netflix's Toxic Town, The Bombing of Pan Am 103 and The Outrun.

She is set to appear next in the new series of Karen Pirie and the BBC drama The Ridge.
Meanwhile, Domboy has had roles in No Limit, SAS Rogue Heroes, Bonnard: Pierre and Marthe, Rich Flu and TV series Culte.

Robert Irwin and Shawn Mendes romance rumours rock the internet

The internet is convinced Robert Irwin and Shawn Mendes are a couple for a very bizarre reason. Yes, you read that correctly. The latest romance rumours in 2025, following JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes, and Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus, follow two of the most unlikely heartthrobs. Of course, social media is at the source of the rumours, more specifically, a slew of AI-generated images of the duo embracing. Pictures began cropping up online which show the Senorita hitmaker, 26, and the conservationist, 21, alongside clickbait headlines such as 'Shawn Mendes thought the cameras were off 🎥… but Robert Irwin remembers everything 🐊. Whatever happened in the wild didn't stay there 🌪️, and it's starting to smell 🔥.' Another post from June 18 reads: 'Shawn Mendes and Robert Irwin dropped one silent bombshell—one glance, one laugh, and the whole internet started whispering 🔥👀.' But why? In an even stranger turn, this rumour allegedly began three years ago when both Robert and Shawn alongside Javier Bardem were promoting 2022 film Lyle, Lyle Crocodile. After watching an interview clip in which Robert passionately talks about his love for reptiles, internet sleuths began to decode his and Shawn's body language, which they think point to a romantic connection. It has gone so far that the Irwin family has received congratulations for the happy couple, despite assuring fans that Robert and Shawn are 'just friends.' 'It's been a whirlwind,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia. 'People are congratulating Robert on social media like it's official, but he and Shawn are obviously just friends.' 'Shawn has always had fun with fans' theories, but there's clearly nothing going on romantically,' they added. Fans have run with it online, sharing posts speculating over their potential relationship. 'Shawn Mendes and Robert Irwin dating rumors…' Shakenjaeke wrote on X, adding in a separate post: 'and im choosing to believe it bc that would be fun and cute.' On Facebook, Salvatore Canino said: 'This is awesome! The internet can be so funny can't guys so much jealousy and is about pics are on media is fine .Stop putting opinions on embracing .Both great guys .x' Many said they would be a 'hot couple' while sharing their congratulations, but others pointed out the photos were obviously fake. Both Shawn and Robert are reportedly single after Shawn was previously rumoured to be dating Charlie Travers and Dr Jocelyne Miranda following his split from popstar Camila Cabello. TV presenter Robert, meanwhile, reportedly split with his rumoured girlfriend Charlotte Briggs earlier this year after ending his relationship with Rorie Buckey in 2024. It comes just weeks after Robert broke the internet with a series of racy shots posing for Australian underwear brand Bonds More Trending He appeared in the snaps with with a perentie lizard in his arms, and a snake wrapped around his bare torso, garnering legions of thirsty comments. Taking to Instagram with a video of him lifting and doing press ups ahead of the underwear shoot, Robert explained just how he got so shredded: 'There isn't one single formula to follow. I reckon the most important thing is not to compare yourself to anyone else, just keep trying to be the best version of YOU. 'Listen to your body, keep moving and improving. Treat your whole body, inside and out with kindness, focus on good nutrition and apply a healthy amount of discipline. It has done wonders for my mind, and given me that extra lightness in my step.' Scottish lochs named UK's top two spots for a wild swim this summer

Two iconic locations are top of the list when it comes to wild swimming spots. Scotland has made a splash in a new study celebrating the UK's most picturesque wild swimming spots, claiming not just the top two spots, but several other entries in the top 12. The rankings, compiled by football ticket marketplace LiveFootballTickets, looked at the number of Instagram hashtags linked to each location. ‌ And at number one, with a staggering 623,000 hashtags, is the iconic Loch Lomond, widely recognised as a symbol of Scotland itself, Scottish Daily Express reports. ‌ Just 45 minutes from Glasgow, Loch Lomond is the largest body of freshwater in Great Britain by surface area, covering 71 square kilometres. Its shimmering waters are flanked by deep forests, cascading waterfalls and majestic mountains. It's no surprise it has inspired centuries of songs, poems and stories. In second place, and no stranger to fame, is Loch Ness, racking up 556,000 hashtags. While many flock to the loch hoping for a glimpse of the legendary Nessie, others are drawn by its tranquil beauty. Just half an hour from Inverness, Loch Ness remains one of the most iconic destinations in the Highlands. It is also the largest body of water in Great Britain by volume, containing 7,452 million cubic metres of water - more than all of the lakes in England and Wales combined. ‌ The list reveals that Scotland dominates the wild swimming scene, with multiple scenic spots featured throughout. Glen Etive claims sixth place with 55,500 hashtags. The remote Highland glen, known for its breathtaking scenery, famously appeared in the James Bond film Skyfall. Its River Etive winds into Loch Etive, offering a wild and cinematic spot for a refreshing dip. ‌ In joint tenth place is the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye, with 28,300 hashtags. These natural pools near Glenbrittle are renowned for their crystal-clear, and icy, waters. Though most visitors come for photos, many do brave a swim in the famously brisk pools. Loch Katrine, steeped in Scottish history and literary legend, rounds out the top 12 with 25,800 hashtags. A popular day-trip from Glasgow and Stirling, it's long been associated with figures such as Walter Scott and Rob Roy. Since 1859, it has also served as Glasgow's main drinking water reservoir. ‌ The top 12 wild swimming spots based on Instagram hashtags: Loch Lomond – 623,000 hashtags Loch Ness – 556,000 hashtags Pen-y-Fan, Brecon Beacons – 192,000 hashtags Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire – 93,300 hashtags Fairy Glen, Lake District – 61,400 hashtags Glen Etive – 55,500 hashtags Overbeck Bridge, Wastwater – 49,400 hashtags Symonds Yat, Wye Valley – 35,700 hashtags Eskdale, Lake District – 28,700 hashtags Fairy Pools, Skye – 28,300 hashtags Llyn Padarn, Snowdonia – 28,300 hashtags Loch Katrine – 25,800 hashtags Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A spokesperson for LiveFootballTickets said: "With the UK's first heatwave for the summer expected to bring temperatures of above 30°C, people are bound to be looking for ways to escape the heat, so, how about a refreshing dip in cool water?" ‌ In a separate recent study, a spot in Scotland was also named the best place in the UK for wild swimming overall, thanks in part to its wealth of natural beauty and clean, cold waters. The west coast region of Argyll and Bute was singled out as a standout spot. The resort town of Oban in particular offers easy access to stunning swim locations like Ganavan Sands and the River Oude. Just a short ferry away, the Isle of Kerrera also boasts several inviting bays and coves. Fort William, in the heart of the Highlands, was highlighted too. Experts noted that the average water temperature in the area hovers around 12.57°C, which they described as 'optimal for swimming'.

Titan sub Scot branded 'hero' for trying to halt dive before being fired for raising concerns

Glaswegian David Lochridge, who was the former Director of Marine Operations, warned OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush about the dangers of the Titan sub before he was sacked for speaking up A Scot who tried to halt the journey of the fatal Titan submersible has been "unsung hero". Glaswegian David Lochridge attempted to stop the sub ahead of its doomed journey to the wreckage, which led to the death of five people on board. David has been praised by viewers for his admirable efforts amid the release of a Netflix documentary on the disaster. The streaming platform released TITAN: The OceanGate Disaster last week, which explores the events leading up to the tragedy on June 18, 2023. ‌ The submersible had been making a trip to the Titanic ruins in the north Atlantic when it imploded, killing everyone in an instant. Among the dead were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, 61, French Pilot Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, 58, Shahzada Dawood, 48, a Pakistani/British/Maltese businessman, and his teenage son Suleman Dawood, 19, who was a student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. ‌ The documentary shows the shocking footage of the moment American born Rush fires his Director of Marine Operations, Lochridge, for expressing his expertise concerns about the safety of the Titan vessel. In one incident shown in the film, Rush told Lochridge at the last minute that he wanted to pilot the sub for a test dive to the Andrea Doria shipwreck despite the Scot's vast experience. Lochridge managed to persuade Rush that he should at least let him join him and the other four paying passengers onboard. Luckily, he did, because at one point Rush crashes the sub onto the wreck and it is Lochridge who herocially guides them out of the danger. After the incident, Lochridge explained how Rush told him "I owe you one" but then went on to leave him out of important meetings. ‌ He said Rush "never really spoke to me the rest of the trip," adding the "dynamic changed" between them. He added that he was "cut out by senior management from the Titan project," and "was dropped from all email communications, verbal communications," leaving him "totally out of the loop". After asking Lochridge to carry out an inspection on the sub, Rush fired him that day after receiving his notes which detailed faults. ‌ In a recording of the moment Lochridge was let go by Rush, viewers can hear him telling him he was "full of s**t" as he says, "I don't want anyone in this company who is uncomfortable with what we're doing". After Rush fired Lochridge, he then said he felt a duty to report his concerns to the Occupational Safety and Health Administrations, revealing that the sub was made from carbon fibre and that the OceanGate CEO has chosen not to classify the Titan vessel. Lochridge, who repeatedly made his feelings clear about the doomed vessel, is hailed as an "unsung hero" by submersible consultant Rob McCallum who was also against the Titan being used. ‌ Lochridge, who had previously piloted OceanGate expeditions, was advised that he would be protected after filing the complaint. However, OceanGate discovered his responsibility and filed a lawsuit against him for breach of contract and fraud. ‌ CEO Rush is heard saying in the documentary that he has no issue in "ruining a life" and Lochridge was forced to withdraw his complaint due to the financial impact it was having on his family and the slow pace which the case was moving at as OSHA investigator Paul McDevitt explained they had a number of other pressing cases to deal with first. Lochridge described OceanGate's lawsuit as an attempt to "keep [him] quiet so they could proceed with the project". ‌ He added that he could not believe Stockton and other staff members "were willing to play Russian roulette". Speaking about the potential dangers of the Titan in 2017, he said: "The worst things that can happen take place at shallow depths - that's where you see the biggest pressure changes. "The biggest hurdle, especially with the Atlantic, is that the weather conditions are at the beck and call of Mother Nature. We have a mobile subsea launch and recovery system, which we can deploy from once the sub is down at depth, so we should be out of the way of all the topside weather conditions."
