Security guard injured in Bandra road rage incident involving motorist
Mumbai: A security guard suffered head injuries after a motorist assaulted him with a stone during a road rage incident in Bandra (West) on Sunday. Bandra police apprehended the accused motorist, Samir Merchant (38) a Chandivali resident, who allegedly committed the offence when his car hit the guard, Sushant Mahadik (29), who was riding his bike and reversing on the busy road near Lucky Junction in Bandra (West).
The guard received medical assistance and later lodged a complaint against Merchant at the police station, who was subsequently released on bail.
The incident occurred at 6.30 pm while Mahadik was returning home to Kanjurmarg. "The matter escalated after Mahadik shouted at Merchant, asking him to be watchful while driving. The situation worsened when a woman accompanying Merchant began filming the verbal feud.
When Mahadik requested to stop filming, Merchant exited his car and struck Mahadik on the head with a stone," a Bandra police officer stated.
Earlier, at 11 am on Sunday, Mahadik visited his cousin's residence in Khar for personal work. In his complaint, Mahadik stated: "It was the motorist's fault. He first reversed his car into the busy lane shortly after the signal turned green. When I questioned him, he became annoyed and hurled abuses.
When I responded and asked him to drive carefully, the woman in the car started filming."
The altercation lasted over thirty minutes until a crowd gathered and intervened, halting the fight. Police transported both individuals to the station and charged the motorist. Merchant was booked under the BNS sections for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, criminal intimidation, and insult.

21 officials suspended over ₹40-crore ‘farm scam' in Maharashtra
Twenty-one government officials in Maharashtra's Jalna district have been suspended for allegedly embezzling ₹40 crore meant for farmers affected by climate disasters like drought and heavy rains. Following a five-month probe, 10 village revenue officers (talathis) were suspended on June 13. Another 11 officials were suspended Thursday, said Additional District Magistrate Ganesh Mahadik. The scam was uncovered in Ambad and Ghansawangi tehsils, which received ₹80 crore under 10 government resolutions passed between 2020 and 2025. 'Of this, ₹40 crore was misappropriated,' said Mr. Mahadik. Investigators found false beneficiaries listed on the government's E-Panchnama Payment Disbursement portal, including friends and relatives of accused officials. 'Some were from outside the village; some land areas were inflated or falsely shown as private,' Mr. Mahadik said. A team led by Deputy Collector Manisha Dandage inspected records of 2.5 lakh farmers and found most genuine farmers received nothing. The investigation is ongoing, with 35 more talathis under scrutiny.

Noida Sector 21 rape: Father's friends tied, gagged 9-yr-old victim
A nine-year-old rape survivor has revealed harrowing details of her ordeal to police, stating that three of her father's friends tied her hands and gagged her before raping her multiple times over the past month at her Sector 21 home, while her father was away at work. On Friday, the victim's statement was recorded before the court, as her medical reports are awaited, police said. (Representational image) Sharing details of what she told police, her father told HT on Friday that her statement has been recorded before the court, and her medical reports are awaited. The girl's father, a domestic worker living in servant quarters with his three children, said his daughter finally disclosed the abuse last week after suffering from persistent fever. 'Around a week ago, my daughter, who was suffering from continuous fever, told me these men—all of whom worked nearby and frequented our home—assaulted her more than five times while I was at work and her eight-year-old sister was playing outside,' the distraught father said. 'They tied her hands, taped her mouth, and threatened her into silence,' the father added. The single father, separated from his wife for five years, said he was shattered. 'I never imagined my own friends could do this. People say gated societies are safe, but where does that leave poor families like ours?' Noida deputy commissioner of police Yamuna Prasad confirmed that police have recorded statements from all family members, including the victim's younger sister. No evidence so far suggests the eight-year-old was targeted. 'So far, nothing suspicious involving the younger child has come to fore. We're investigating the matter and will act stringently if any additional offences surface,' Prasad said. The three accused—a 35-year-old from Sector 123 who irons clothes, a 50-year-old security guard who lives in Sector 48, and a 55-year-old from Harola who is a driver—were arrested Wednesday after doctors at Sector 30 hospital alerted police that the girl's medical examination revealed evidence of sexual assault. Later, police recorded the statements of the minor before the magistrate and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 74 for assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 65 for rape, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. .
