Young Browns OT undergoes third surgery in two years
After back-to-back injury-shortened seasons, Cleveland Browns right tackle Dawand Jones is yet again on the road to recovery.
Jones recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The procedure was performed to clean up damage from an in-season injury unrelated to the fracture that ended his 2024 season. A source claimed that Jones will soon come off crutches and return to running in preparation for offseason training.
Jones, measuring in at a massive 6-foot-8, 374-pound, has struggled with lower body injuries early in his career. An MCL tear in his right knee cut short his rookie season, and he suffered yet another season-ending injury this past season against the New Orleans Saints in which he fractured his left fibula.
Despite the setbacks, a source indicates Jones is expected to be fully recovered by the start of training camp in late July. His return is crucial for Cleveland's offensive line, as he is currently projected to be one of the starting five in 2025. With the expected departure of left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. in free agency, the Browns will need stability in the trenches.
As he works his way back, Jones' health will be closely monitored throughout the summer.

Shaquille O'Neal's Strong Response to Travis Kelce's Personal Request
Shaquille O'Neal's Strong Response to Travis Kelce's Personal Request originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On the latest episode of the "New Heights" podcast, hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, the special guest was none other than NBA legend and current ESPN analyst Shaquille O'Neal. With three big personalities in one room, the conversation was entertaining, unpredictable, full of laughter, candid moments and off-the-wall stories. Advertisement Shaq, never one to hold back, brought his signature humor and larger-than-life presence to the show. The trio talked about everything from their playing careers and media work to behind-the-scenes moments and a shared love for music. But two highlights stole the spotlight: Travis asking O'Neal for DJ advice so he could one day open for his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Travis didn't hold back when he asked the four-time NBA champion. "You go to get me on the DJ booth, you got to teach me your ways, dog." O'Neal, known in music circles as DJ Diesel, replied: "I got you. I got you. You know what's crazy? You open up for your girlfriend and you'll be a [expletive] star." Advertisement That had both Kelce brothers cracking up, especially Travis, who added, "You know I'm a hype man. You know I'm a hype man. I'll have Swifties bouncing off the wall before Tay gets out there." Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce and girlfriend Taylor Deutsch-Imagn Images Travis Kelce is gearing up for another season with the Kansas City Chiefs. The veteran tight end, who turns 36 this year, played with Kansas City since being drafted in 2013 and helped lead the team to three Super Bowl victories. Jason Kelce, meanwhile, recently retired after a remarkable NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Drafted in 2011 out of Cincinnati, he was a key figure in the Eagles' Super Bowl LII win and earned seven Pro Bowl selections. Advertisement O'Neal, 53, was a regular on TNT's NBA coverage throughout the playoffs. With the network's NBA coverage coming to an end, Shaq joined a new broadcasting team at ESPN. Drafted No. 1 overall by the Orlando Magic in 1992, he played 19 seasons in the league and won four NBA championships. Browns Expected to Cut Ties With $14 Million Quarterback
Browns Expected to Cut Ties With $14 Million Quarterback originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The next step in the preseason for the Cleveland Browns is training camp, which begins between July 18-22 based on player designation. A few weeks after that, at least one of the team's four active quarterbacks is going to be unemployed or playing elsewhere. Advertisement Precisely who that will be is a matter of debate. ESPN's Peter Schrager predicted earlier this week on "The Pat McAfee Show" that it would be one of the two veterans, Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett, and he leaned toward the latter. However, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently noted on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" that Shedeur Sanders, who by all accounts remained QB4 following mandatory minicamp this month, is currently fighting more for a job than he is battling for the starting job. Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders (12).Ken Blaze-Imagn Images As such, his recent citations for traveling 26 mph and 41 mph over the speed limit -- including clocking 101 mph in a 60 mph zone -- are potentially a bigger deal to the Browns front office than they might be if he was the No. 1 overall pick like Cam Ward in Tennessee. Advertisement That could open the door for Sanders to get cut or traded if he doesn't handle this scenario well in the aftermath and/or struggles mightily in training camp. But it was Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network who appeared on "The Rich Eisen Show" on Friday and predicted that either Sanders or Dillon Gabriel will ultimately start for Cleveland in Week 1 and that Pickett, a former first-round selection of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2022 NFL draft, will be released or traded come late August. "Talent-wise, I think both those guys have a huge advantage over Kenny Pickett," Jeremiah said. "Pickett has to be light years better than each of them to make the team. To me, I think Joe Flacco is just in case they don't feel like they can be competent at the position, then you insert Joe. I think their Week 1 starter is going to be one of those two rookies." Advertisement The Browns traded for Pickett earlier this offseason, sending a fifth-round pick and quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the Philadelphia Eagles in return. Pickett is entering the final season of his four-year, $14 million rookie contract in 2025.
