The Best Movies, TV, Music, Books, Theater and Art Arriving in June
This month is chockablock full of stars on stages big, small and, in the case of the megawatt would-be blockbuster F1 starring Brad Pitt, absolutely massive. There are quieter gems too, if you know where to look. (And we did!)
Angry Alan
Unlike most other movie stars, John Krasinski isn't going to Broadway. Instead, he'll star on the intimate off-Broadway stage of Studio Seaview as Roger, a mild-mannered man who becomes radicalized by the internet into believing that there's a feminist conspiracy against him (or at least men like him). Written by Penelope Skinner and directed by Sam Gold, the show runs for 10 weeks. June 11–Aug. 3

Lynn Hamilton, ‘Sanford and Son' and ‘The Waltons' Actress, Dies at 95
Lynn Hamilton, who played Redd Foxx's girlfriend Donna on 'Sandford and Son' and Miss Verdie on 'The Waltons,' died Thursday of natural causes at her home in Chicago. She was 95. Hamilton also played Vivian Potter on 'Generations' from 1989 to 1991. Her additional credits included 'Designing Women,' 'Roots: The Next Generation,' '227' and 'The Practice.' Hamilton's first appearance on 'Sandford and Son' was in 1972 when she played a landlady who chastised Demond Wilson's Lamont Sanford after he argued with his father, Fred Sanford, and then got his own place. Producers of the series decided to upgrade the role, and Hamilton became Fred's girlfriend. Alzenia Lynn Hamilton was born April 25, 1930, in Yazoo City, Mississippi. She and her family moved to Chicago when Hamilton was young, and she first began acting with a South Side theater company. A 1956 move to New York City opened up opportunities and Hamilton was in four Broadway plays. She joined the Seattle Repertory Theatre in 1966 before moving to Los Angeles. Hamilton was married to Frank Jenkins from 1964 until his death in 2014. The Hollywood Reporter first reported news of her death. You Need to Hear the Advice Brad Pitt Would Give His Younger Self
Originally appeared on E! Online Once upon a time in Hollywood, Brad Pitt was just starting out. And while it may be hard to think of the Oscar winner as anything other than the household name he is now, back in 1987 Pitt didn't have all the answers—though he does now. If the 61-year-old could give advice to his younger self, he'd say, 'Don't sweat it, bro. Trust yourself.' 'I mean so many things that were just a waste of time, I agonized over in the early years,' Pitt shared in an exclusive interview with E! News while promoting his new film, F1. 'Really, really, just trust your voice.' It's a sentiment his costar Javier Bardem wish he could tell his younger self, too. 'Don't try so hard,' he said. 'Don't push yourself. Trust more in your instinct, in your inner voice.' (For more with the F1 crew, tune into E! News tonight, June 16 at 11p.m.) Though, Bardem knows hindsight is 20/20. More from E! Online Justin Timberlake Celebrates Father's Day With Rare Photos of His and Jessica Biel's Sons Jenna Bush Hager Gets a Dramatic Haircut While Live on Air 'Traumatized' Justin Bieber Shares Text Message Ending a Friendship 'It's easy to say now, when you are older,' the 56-year-old conceded. 'But when you are young so much is at stake. You want to prove yourself to prove others so much.' But now? They're much more comfortable with their place in the Hollywood. As Bardem explained, 'Now I think we are fine with that. Like, okay, if you like what I do, great. If you don't, I'm sorry. But when you're young it's like, 'You have to like me!'' Like them, Hollywood has also transformed. 'It's gone through so many different incarnations,' Pitt said. 'I remember when the '90s came in, it was all about the independent cinema and just getting back to, like, '70s kind of filmmaking. Then we saw in the arts, the blockbuster was emerging again, and then streamers came on and just changed everything all over again.' He continued, 'The cool thing about it is that there's just more and more people getting opportunities like these. This pool of talented people always existed, but now so many more writers, directors, editors, so on, so forth, get to do this thing. And that I like, very cool.' And one such person who recently entered the race is Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, who appears with Javier and Brad in F1. Which, yeah, made Pitt nervous. 'Can you imagine the gall to go, 'I'm going to drive seven-time world champion around the track?' The absurdity of that?' Pitt joked. 'But I swallowed it, and it's very humbling. And he's a great human being and we just, we couldn't make this movie without his expertise.' F1 races into theaters June 27. Jack Betts Dies: ‘Spider-Man' Actor Was 96
Jack Betts, the character actor who appeared in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) and over a dozen Spaghetti Western films, has died at the age of 96. Per The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, Betts died Thursday in his sleep at his Los Osos, Calif. home, his nephew, Dean Sullivan, said. More from Deadline Andrew Garfield Says Spider-Man Return "Would Have To Be Very Weird" & The "Creative Freedom" Of Animated 'Spider-Verse' Movies Jon Bernthal Helped Tom Holland With Spider-Man Audition Tape: "Not That I Take Responsibility" New 'Spider-Man' With Tom Holland Gets Title - CinemaCon Born Jack Fillmore Betts (saying he bore a relation to the 13th POTUS Millard Fillmore) on April 11, 1929 in Jersey City, NJ, he grew up in Miami, where he eventually studied theater at University of Miami. Afterward, he moved to New York City, where he made his Broadway debut in 1953's Richard III. When a friend asked him to help with an audition for Lee Strasberg's famed nonprofit, The Actors Studio, the director of the prestigious acting school granted him a three-year scholarship to study there. As a result, the venerated Elia Kazan later cast him in a production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. (He later returned to Braodway for Kazan's 1959 production of Sweet Bird of Youth, as well as a late '70s revival of Dracula, in which he once portrayed the eponymous count as Raul Julia's standby.) Betts' first film credit was in 1959's The Bloody Brood, and in 1966 he was cast as the title character in Franco Giraldi's Sugar Colt, billed as Hunt Powers for the first time. That kicked off a string of credits in over a dozen Spaghetti Westerns through the 1970s. On the television side, Betts racked up a number of appearances in daytime soaps, including General Hospital, The Young Marrieds, The Edge of Night, The Doctors, Another World, All My Children, Falcon Crest, Search for Tomorrow, Guiding Light, Generations and The Young and the Restless. His other notable arcs included episodes for Perry Mason and The F.B.I., as well as turns in popular series like Gunsmoke, Seinfeld, Mad TV, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, The Mentalist and Monk. (Betts was great friends with Everybody Loves Raymond star Doris Roberts, whom he met at The Actors Studio in the '50s; the two shared a home from the late '80s until her death in 2016.) In Spider-Man, Betts notably portrays Henry Balkan, the Oscorp Technologies board chairman who tells Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn, 'You're out, Norman,' kicking off the Green Goblin's villainous arc. Later on in the movie, Osborn parrots back the phrase to Balkan, as he vaporizes the board in an attack on Times Square, gleefully shouting: 'Out, am I?' Additional film credits include 1993's Falling Down with Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall, the 1995 Val Kilmer-starring Batman Forever and 1998's Gods and Monsters opposite Ian McKellen and Brendan Fraser. In addition to his nephew, survivors include his nieces, Lynne and Gail, and his sister, Joan, who turns 100 in November. Following the news of his death, Beverly Hills Playhouse shared a tribute to the performer on Instagram, writing: 'Our beloved Jack Betts passed away peacefully at home. It is a sad day for the BHP as we have enjoyed his presence for so many years. There are actors who credit him with their not giving up because of his encouragement. We were so fortunate to have enjoyed his great spirit, passion and true dedication to the work. There was only ever one like this and we are the richer for having his presence in our theatre. Rest in peace, Jack.' Best of Deadline 2025 Deaths Photo Gallery: Hollywood & Media Obituaries 2024 Hollywood & Media Deaths: Photo Gallery & Obituaries Remembering Shelley Duvall: A Career In Photos
