Rankings speak louder than false narratives, PKR MP shells opposition
PKR lawmaker R Yuneswaran has urged the opposition to stop peddling 'false narratives' about the goods and services tax (GST), sales and service tax (SST), and subsidy rationalisation efforts. To underscore that the Madani government is on the right track, the Segamat MP pointed to the International Institute for Management Development World Competitiveness Ranking 2025, which saw Malaysia rise 11 spots with a record high of RM378.5 billion in foreign direct investments.

From 300 to 1,000 schools: PM credits govt-private sector unity for Madani education push
PUTRAJAYA, June 20 — PUTRAJAYA, June 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today hailed the government's national school transformation initiative as a resounding success, with nearly 1,000 schools now participating – far exceeding the original target of 300. Speaking at the Sekolah Angkat Malaysia Madani event here, Anwar praised the Education Ministry, other government agencies, and corporate partners for their collective contributions. Calling the achievement 'extraordinary', Anwar said it was made possible through strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and local communities under the Madani framework. 'The government and private sector in Malaysia are amazing and this is an extraordinary achievement,' he said at the Sekolah Angkat Malaysia Madani event held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre. Expressing his thanks, Anwar named Petronas, TNB, Telekom Malaysia and Sime Darby for being among the earliest corporations to respond to his government's push to improve education in Malaysia. 'As we all know, we can't move forward without the readiness and acceptance of the public. That is the plan for the next 10 years. 'We wanted to launch with 300 members, now, with the way the government and private sector in Malaysia are working together, we've reached 1,000 schools. So congratulations and thank you,' he said. Under the Madani school adoption programme, government-linked companies and wholly private firms pledge to contribute financially to schools in need, especially those in need of infrastructure support. Anwar said that the private sector's participation allows the government to focus on building new schools, roads, health facilities and more. 'Once we get this programme running it would be great to have the CEO or executives visit these schools, say twice a year, spend an hour or two to talk with the kids. 'Expose them to the world, work and truths. That way, they will be encouraged and have a role model to look up to,' he added.

MCA should treat gutsy Wong Siew Mun as Malaysia's icon of free speech, its ‘poster girl'
PUBLIC perception of MCA as an advocate in championing free speech has skyrocketed of late in tandem with its Pahang Youth chief Wong Siew Mun being summoned to Bukit Aman for disputing a request from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to telcos to collect mobile phone data. For that reason, she was being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) 1998 respectively for allegedly causing public alarm with the circulation of a statement and misusing network facilities. As MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has pledged to stand firmly with her – and even to provide her with legal assistance – Wong has suddenly found herself endeared to Madani government doubters as a fighter of people's right to freedom of expression. In fact, her courageous action in light of rife speculation of MCA exiting the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition has given the grand old party of Malaysian Chinese a glimmer of hope to rejuvenate its 'tarnished-beyond-repair' reputation. Articulate with good command of Bahasa Malaysia, the 35-year-old who lost to DAP's Lee Chin Chen in the Bilut state seat contest during the 15th General Election (GE15) has charmed many pro-opposition voices who have begun to look up to MCA to replace the once firebrand DAP who is now a pale shadow of its former self. Interestingly, Wong whose trip to Bukit Aman on June 18 was featured in a video clip on the Facebook of opposition-slant blogger and political activist Ratu Naga received all-rounded applause for daring to 'tear apart the Madani government'. Berated at DAP, some commenters who are charmed with Wong's educated and professional poise even expect MCA to turn the table on DAP which they still perceive as 'seemingly communist and racist'. Only time will tell if MCA can turn over a new leaf by being the eye, ear, nose and mouth for check and balance – and mostly to fill the void created by the so-called 'fang-less' DAP ever since the latter become part of the Madani establishment. The bottom line is whether such role is more easily executed outside the realm of BN which is now a close ally of the Madani administration. – June 20, 2025

Govt reform agenda progressing consistently, not mere rhetoric, says PMO
KUALA LUMPUR: Claims that the "reformasi" agenda is not progressing are unfounded, as it is moving forward consistently, says Tunku Nashrul Abaidah. The senior press secretary to the Prime Minister said the reformasi agenda is not something to be implemented overnight or merely expressed in statements, but rather is being executed through structured actions. "Since the start of the Prime Minister's (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) administration, he has emphasised that the Madani government will always listen and stay open to constructive criticism. "This stance is reflected in action. Every criticism is viewed as an opportunity for improvement. Today's successes mirror that approach," he said. Tunku Nashrul said this during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) daily briefing, broadcast live on both Anwar Ibrahim's and the PMO Malaysia's Facebook pages Thursday (June 19). Tunku Nashrul said that, as outlined by the Prime Minister through the Madani Economy Framework, the main goal is to elevate the nation's economic potential, enhance its capacity, and ensure the well-being of its citizens. He added that Malaysia's rise of 11 places to the 23rd rank in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2025, up from 34th place last year, is due to the Madani government's sustained commitment and comprehensive implementation via a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach. He said this is the country's best performance since 2020, proving that economic and bureaucratic reforms are yielding results and that the Madani Economy Framework is keeping the country's economy on the right track. "This achievement also reflects the collective efforts to strengthen fiscal policy, simplify business processes, and accelerate public service delivery reforms, including over 1,000 initiatives under the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB). "For example, the national bureaucracy perception index has jumped 22 positions, a clear signal that reforms are delivering real results, not just at the national level but also with international recognition," he said. - Bernama
