Chanel Reaches for the Stars With Its High Jewelry Event in Kyoto

Vogue05-06-2025

As with all Chanel High Jewelry collections, the basis for Reach For The Stars stems from the life of Chanel herself. This time her quote: 'If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing,' provided the impetus for the collection. The pieces are statement-making and intended for red carpet moments—an extension of Chanel's first and only high jewelry collection in 1932. 'Maybe it's a more classic theme in a way, but at the same time it's a very bold and sophisticated approach to the glamorous style of Chanel,' said Dorothée Saintville, the brand's International Product Marketing Director of Watches and Fine Jewelry.

Japanese craftsmanship was a longtime focus of the late Creative Director of Chanel fine and high jewelry, Patrice Leguéreau, who started this collection before he passed away late last year. Saintville stepped in to join President of Watches and Fine Jewelry Frederic Grangié to shepherd this collection to fruition and continue to drive the creative vision and expansion of Chanel High Jewelry.
The stone's intense, warm pink tone with hints of orange and yellow embodies Leguéreau's intention to capture the sensation of golden hour, explained Saintville.

A hero piece of the collection features a significant padparadscha sapphire. The stone's intense, warm pink tone with hints of orange and yellow embodies Leguéreau's intention to capture the sensation of golden hour, explained Saintville. 'When Patrice thought about this collection he said: 'I imagine pieces kissed by the light of the sun at sunrise or sunset.' ' Imagination, romance, and modernism mark this new collection and the inclusion of wings expands its lexicon. 'There is no rule [of the introduction of new symbols],' added Saintville, 'it's part of the endless reinterpretation of our DNA.'

Japan chemicals firm's CEO fights to keep job as investors revolt

Japan's governance reforms have emboldened shareholders, who are now increasingly vocal about their demands. In a sign of rising shareholders' activism, a president of a semiconductor material maker is at risk of getting voted out of office at the firm's annual general meeting Saturday. Eiji Sato is facing an uphill battle to be re-appointed as president and CEO of Taiyo Holdings, a position he has held since 2011, after some shareholders criticised his response to various acquisition proposals as being too slow. The US$2.5 billion ($3.2 billion) company's biggest shareholder, DIC, an ink maker that has long been a 'stable shareholder' with its 20.04% stake, has come out against Sato. DIC criticised Taiyo as being slow in setting up a committee to study an acquisition proposal and in pushing ahead for talks with the prospective buyer. Joining DIC in calls for Sato's ouster were the company's second and the third biggest shareholders — activist fund Oasis Management Co. and a holding company owned by Taiyo's founding family. The company's three biggest shareholders own about 37% of the shares outstanding. Japan's governance reforms have emboldened shareholders, who are now increasingly vocal about their demands. Although there has been a decline in support for board executives at company AGMs in recent years, it is still rare for a company's proposals to be outright rejected at an AGM. Other Taiyo shareholders such as California State Teachers' Retirement System also announced opposition to Sato after proxy adviser Glass Lewis recommended voting against him. Still, Sato has his supporters. Rival proxy adviser ISS says Taiyo's strong earnings growth over the last five years is a reflection of its solid market position in resist ink used for printed circuit boards and semiconductors. Olympic Gymnast Suni Lee Turns Heads With 'Gorgeous' Swimsuit Photo

Olympic Gymnast Suni Lee Turns Heads With 'Gorgeous' Swimsuit Photo originally appeared on The Spun. The 2025 rookie class for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit featured a handful of notable athletes, including Olympic gymnast Suni Lee. Lee rose to stardom during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning a gold medal in the individual all-around event. She was also part of the "Golden Girls" that won gold for the team all-around at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Well before Lee's rookie photoshoot was released, SI Swimsuit editor-in-chief MJ Day said her team was looking for athletes who "defy stereotypes and champion equality, inspiring young girls to envision themselves as both athletes and leaders." There's no question Lee fits that description. Throughout her gymnastics career, Lee has dealt with comments about her body. She hasn't allowed that to slow her down or shake her confidence. "Gymnastics has definitely impacted my body image," Lee said. "We have to wear skin-tight leotards. There are so many critics online, but I'm always going to be my biggest critic, so whenever you read things, it just kind of makes you overthink. But I just had to learn that my body is my temple and I wouldn't be able to do what I have to do without it." As for Lee's rookie photoshoot with SI Swimsuit, let's just say it was a huge hit. Lee shared a few swimsuit photos from her time in Boca Raton on Instagram. Most of her fans complimented her appearance. "So naturally beautiful," one person commented. "Absolutely beautiful," another person said. "You're gorgeous," an Instagram user wrote. Lee has quickly become a star in the modeling industry. Last year, she went viral several times during New York Fashion Week. "I'm so grateful to all the brands and designers who hosted me this season. It definitely lived up to the hype," the 2021 Female Athlete of the Year told Vogue. Suffice to say, it won't be long before Lee has everyone's attention once Gymnast Suni Lee Turns Heads With 'Gorgeous' Swimsuit Photo first appeared on The Spun on Jun 21, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jun 21, 2025, where it first appeared.
