Ministry of Health Activates Summer Healthcare Plan Across North Coast

Mobile clinics, inspections and upgraded hospitals mobilised to meet seasonal tourism surge.

As part of preparations for the 2025 summer season, the Ministry of Health and Population has launched a comprehensive healthcare plan for the North Coast to manage the expected rise in visitor numbers. Developed by the Matrouh Health Directorate, the plan focuses on strengthening emergency response, preventive monitoring, and medical infrastructure throughout the region.
The measures include health inspections across tourist resorts, food establishments, water stations, health clubs, and sewage facilities, aiming to prevent public health violations during peak season. Infection control and occupational safety standards are also being reviewed at both public and private hospitals. Refresher training has been provided to hospital directors, and emergency teams have been trained specifically to manage cases related to infectious disease and poisoning. All frontline medical and support staff in the area have been vaccinated against Hepatitis B.
Marina Central Hospital has received new upgrades, including a dedicated vaccine storage unit and fully equipped isolation rooms for emergency use. To extend reach, mobile clinics have been deployed throughout the coastal region, while a mobile unit from the Presidential Initiative for Women's Health will operate along the North Coast for the summer.
A 24-hour central operations room has been activated and is linked directly to the Health Directorate's emergency room and the central crisis management unit of the Ministry. All hospitals in the area are required to deliver round-the-clock emergency services and comply with national protocols for transferring critical cases to specialist care facilities. Evening clinics will also operate under ministry directives to meet rising seasonal demand.

This achievement is attributed to dedicated efforts in examination, awareness, and early disease detection, reflecting the commitment of medical teams and the effectiveness of fieldwork. The Undersecretary of Health added that the Red Sea Governorate ranked third in the Maternal and Fetal Care Initiative, demonstrating the quality of care provided to pregnant women and success in early detection of mother-to-fetus transmitted diseases. Similarly, in the Early Detection of Cancer Tumors Initiative and the distribution of "FIT" samples, the governorate achieved fourth place among governorates in terms of quality of implementation and coverage of target groups. Overall, in the general classification of health initiatives' performance, the Red Sea Governorate secured fifth place nationwide, an accomplishment reflecting seriousness and discipline in executing presidential health directives. For the Chronic Diseases and Early Detection Initiative, the governorate ranked seventh with an achievement rate of 98%, reaching 1036 cases out of the monthly target of 1062 cases. This underscores the efficiency of the work system in reaching targeted populations. Al-Arabi emphasized that these successes are the fruit of effective cooperation and coordination between medical and administrative teams, under the supervision of Dr. Basma Yahya, the initiatives' coordinator in the governorate. The Undersecretary of Health clarified that Ahmed Galal, Director of Primary Care Administration, Shireen Magdy, Director of Motherhood and Childhood Administration, and Nurse Hanaa Mohamed, Nursing Supervisor for the Initiatives, participated meticulously in the implementation of these initiatives. He further stressed that these results reflect the spirit of teamwork and the dedication of medical and administrative staff in implementing the Ministry of Health's plans and the political leadership's directives. He affirmed the continuation of efforts to ensure the provision of integrated healthcare services worthy of the people of the Red Sea Governorate, extending thanks to all work teams and calling for continued commitment and increased efforts to achieve further successes in developing the healthcare system.

Egypt issues nearly 20 million digital treatment approvals as health insurance digitalisation accelerates

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced on Saturday that nearly 20 million electronic treatment approvals were issued during the 2024/2025 fiscal year through the General Authority for Health Insurance, marking a major step forward in the country's healthcare digitalisation efforts. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the ministry, described the development as a 'significant breakthrough' in digital transformation. He noted that over 13 million online appointments have been made across 250 clinics, with a further 120 clinics currently undergoing digital conversion and receiving new technical infrastructure. In addition, 160 clinic archives have been fully digitised, with work ongoing on another 247. The authority has also automated 239 medical warehouses, as well as several specialised medical committees—including those for cardiology, cochlear implants, blood, and growth hormone treatments. Hospitals have been integrated into the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), streamlining the management and sharing of medical imaging. Ahmed Mostafa, Head of the Health Insurance Authority, announced that the digital platform of the New Administrative Capital Hospital has been successfully linked to the National Unified Emergency and Safety Network. He added that preparations are underway to activate artificial intelligence (AI) services and upgrade the digital infrastructure across affiliated hospitals. Mostafa reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to Egypt's national digital strategy, emphasising that digitalisation is a central pillar of ongoing healthcare reform. He stressed that these efforts aim to enhance service quality, operational efficiency, and patient outcomes across the country.

Over 2.4 Million People Donated Blood in Egypt Over Five Years

Egypt's national blood transfusion services have undergone extensive upgrades over the past five years. Jun 14, 2025 According to a report by the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 2,491,759 individuals donated blood through 28 centres nationwide between 2020 and 2025, with many first-time donors continuing as regular contributors. Over this period, Egypt's national blood transfusion services have undergone extensive upgrades, enhancing service quality, infrastructure, and workforce development across the country. These efforts were accompanied by the establishment of six plasma donation centres in Agouza, Abbassia, Dar El Salam, Tanta, Alexandria, and Minya, part of a broader push toward achieving self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives. The National Blood Transfusion Center has maintained international standards, holding accreditation from the AABB since 2014 and securing its fourth renewal in December 2022. Similarly, the Red Cell Reference Laboratory (RCRL) remains accredited by the Egyptian Accreditation Council, with its certification extended through 2028. In 2023, the fourth edition of Egypt's national blood transfusion standards was approved and distributed in both Arabic and English, developed in coordination with the World Health Organization. Technological upgrades have played a central role in the expansion. Advanced blood separation devices and x-ray machines have enabled the production of more than 2.47 million separated blood samples. Flash luminescence virus testing has been introduced in 98% of blood centres, and nucleic acid testing is now in use across all national blood services. As of March 2025, hospital-based blood banks have also adopted nucleic acid testing as part of a project supported by the World Bank, contributing to the testing of over 2.5 million samples at national centres and an additional 1.84 million in hospitals.
