Ireland has enjoyed a rather pleasant spring, with temperatures soaring above 20C in some parts.
And as we bid farewell to spring and welcome the onset of summer in June, there's optimism that the balmy weather will persist. For those on the hunt for a new fan, it might be worth considering a bladeless model. Bladeless fans have seen a surge in popularity in recent years, primarily because they don't accumulate dust like their traditional counterparts.
This makes them easier to maintain and more suitable for individuals who are prone to allergies. Dyson is arguably at the forefront of this market with its Purifier Cool Gen1, a dual-function cooling and air purifying system.
The fan captures and traps pollutants, offers ten settings and is controlled by a remote. However, with a hefty price tag of £349.99, it sits at the higher end of the market, potentially out of reach for many households.

Pro Breeze is another top contender in the fan market, offering devices that are more moderately priced, thus appealing to a wider consumer base. For example, its Bladeless Tower Fan is priced at €169, and numerous customers have compared its performance and quality favourably to Dyson's, reports the Mirror.
The Tower Fan by Pro Breeze utilises 'Air Stream Cooling Technology', which enhances cooling power to distribute a stream of cool air throughout rooms. It features large 4mm vents, which prove handy during heatwaves.
In terms of reviews, the Pro Breeze model from Amazon received more than 700 ratings. One customer described it as: "This fan has proven to be a great Dyson alternative so far. I brought it for my son, who sleeps in a bed tent (he's autistic), and it helps cool him down during the high heat."
This user noted that is was quiet saying: "It's not that loud, turns itself off, and has an easy-to-use touch-button panel on the front that my son knows how to use. So, it's not at all complicated."
In contrast, a second consumer gave the product 2 stars, having found the fan noise excessive stating: "This fan is so loud I have to turn my TV up! I have a cheap one that is quieter and just as powerful. Sorry, I can't recommend this as it's too loud, definitely not ultra quiet."
A third buyer rated the fan highly saying: "Probably the best fan I've ever owned. I went through quite a lot of cheap fans and I've had Dyson ones. But this is by far the best I've seen, especially for bladeless."
They went on to say: "It does have 6 speed settings. The first 2 settings are definitely kind of quiet, so pretty good for those who hate sounds and have a decent amount of air."
And concluded: "The 6th setting is really powerful a strong wind but sounds almost like a vacuum cleaner but not as bad. Still I wouldn't think it's ideal to sleep with the 6th setting unless you do like the sound of the fan like me.
"The size is good usually with most fans it can barely reach the top of my bed but this goes above the height of it which is really good. 5/5 definitely recommend."
A fourth was equally positive: "As a fan this is great, easily as cooling as a Dyson or bigger more expensive brand, even on low settings you can feel it. The instructions are easy to follow, the remote is easy to use.
"It's a little chunky not massively but there's definitely more streamlined versions out there. It's not deafeningly loud, but you can hear it as it's not silent either. I do think it's a great fan for the money, though. I would definitely buy again."

Shoppers rave about 'very quiet' bladeless fan perfect for the warm days
The humid weather has taken over but as most Irish homes lack air conditioning, residents often resort to swinging windows wide open or making a mad dash to buy fans once the mercury soars. Now might be a good time to prep for the hotter days by snagging a fan before things get too sticky. Amazon's on it with the 4.6-star-rated Pro Breeze® Silent Bladeless Portable Tower Fan up for grabs at €162.51. The fan's portability means you can lug it from room to room, chasing down those particularly hot spots. It's a game-changer for the bedroom when the heat messes with your snooze, plus customers say it's hushed enough not to drown out your telly. With six speed options, you can crank it up as the temperature does, reports the Express. A content customer shared their thoughts on the Pro Breeze fan, saying: "This is the second one I have purchased. I liked the grey one I bought for my living room so much, I bought this white one for my bedroom. On the low speed, which is very good, you can hear very little noise. (I have great hearing.) And it did not affect the volume of my TV which is not up very loud to begin with." A satisfied customer shared: "I love this fan so much, I purchased a second one for my bedroom. I got the first one last summer for the living room, and I was really impressed, in the past I have used the fans that have a blade which were ok but not very good at keeping me cool, when the third one stopped working I looked into these types of fans, I researched all of them on Amazon and read reviews and decided on this one and can honestly say I am over the moon with it." Yet, another customer noted a drawback regarding the noise level: "As a fan this is great, easily as cooling as a Dyson or bigger more expensive brand, even on low settings you can feel it. The instructions are easy to follow, the remote is easy to use. It's a little chunky not massively but there's definitely more streamlined versions out there. It's not deafeningly loud but you can hear it as it's not silent either, I do think it's a great fan for the money though, I would definitely buy again." One person highlighted a gripe with the remote: "Remote is a bit rubbish as has to be in a specific position to get signal across, which is particularly difficult while the fan oscillates, other than that the fan is top notch." Yet another shopper expressed contentment, saying: "An excellent unit, it was very quiet in the bedroom whilst delivering a very good breeze." Hot and bothered shoppers race to Lidl to nab bladeless fan that's ‘just as good as a Dyson' & ideal for sweltering days
THE Dyson bladeless fan is meant to be one of the best around, but at a whopping £350, not many people can afford it. But there's a MUCH cheaper dupe on the market that's apparently just as good as the Dyson - and you can find it in your local Lidl. 4 Hot and bothered shoppers have been racing to Lidl to pick up this bladeless fan for £69.99 Credit: facebook/extremecouponingandbargainsuk 4 It looks super stylish in the home, and is much safer for kids as they can't get their hands caught Credit: facebook/extremecouponingandbargainsuk 4 Meanwhile, the Dyson fan is a whopping £350 Credit: Argos/Dyson Kimberley took to the Her post was then flooded with comments, with the majority of people raving over the budget buy. "I've got one had it 2 years just as good as Dyson," a third insisted. "Yes, they're brilliant! We have ours in the bedroom & it's good, not too noisy either," someone else wrote. While another gushed: "I got one a couple of weeks ago and it's been great on a night when it's hot." "I had one similar when I was in Hong Kong: excellent, cool & quiet (compare to traditional big blades) and very safe for kids," someone else insisted. "I bought the small one last year, it was that good I bought the big one this year!" another admitted. "You can't go wrong for that price." But others had different ideas for how to keep days and nights cool in the blistering heat. How to keep cool in a heatwave Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it's too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS... Keep out of the heat if you can. If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter. Cool yourself down. Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes. Keep your living space cool. Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep. "Put another 140-ish to that and buy an air conditioning unit with a BTU of 9000 or above, nice chilled room," one wrote. "Best money I spent last year to combat the heat." "I got it yesterday," another said of the Lidl fan. "Not that impressed and the Shark one is £30 more, so going to take back." "Best fan I've ever had is a Meaco, sooo powerful and quiet," a third added. "We bought 3 from Amazon," someone else weighed in. "£60 standing ones have 4 settings on them. It is quite noisy but it's quite relaxing." 4 There's also a smaller version of the fan available - perfect for sitting on a coffee table Credit: facebook/extremecouponingandbargainsuk

Stake out leggy perennials With all the dramatic weather we've been having, it's definitely time to stake out your leggy perennials (the ones that come back every year). Heavy rain and growth spurts, can make them collapse and flop. Picking out the slugs and snails Hopefully as we move into summer they will do less damage as the plants get bigger. The best way is still to go out at night with a head torch to find them. Pick elderflower heads You can use them to make your own cordial, or add to cakes, champagne or even fry them in batter. Get on top of weeds It's around now that weeds really ramp up in the garden, so keep on top of them with hoe-ing - or just the traditional 'on your knees with a hand fork'. Try and avoid chemicals - remember weeds are just plants in the wrong place. Up the mowing You'll need to mow your lawn weekly now - if you've got time, weed it beforehand as once you mow you chop off the leaves and its harder to see them. Check on your tomatoes Your tomato plants will need attention - water, feed and regularly and pinch out the sideshoots. Chelsea Chop There's still time for the Chelsea Chop - plants like Rudbeckia's, Asters, Penstemons, Sedums and other perennials can be cut back by a third to help them get a bit more bushy, and prolong the flowering period. Sort out your tulips If you can be bothered and have space - lift and story your tulip bulbs to ensure colour next Spring. Deadheading your roses Take them down to the first set of healthy leaves - which will ensure more flowers for longer. Enjoy your space Take some time to sit and enjoy your garden or outside space - it's great for your mental health. Even just a few minutes a day can make a big difference.
