Video game preview – Anno 117: Pax Romana is a real-time city-building epic
I have spent hundreds of hours on Civilization and its sequels, but I haven't played many other strategy games beyond Amplitude Studios' works, such as Humankind and Big Huge Games' Rise of Nations.
When I had a chance to preview Ubisoft's Anno 117: Pax Romana, I did not know what to expect aside from it being a historical strategy game, but with a more focused era. I was expecting something Civ-ish, but I was wrong.
Anno 117 is different to anything I've played before. The coming PC game puts players in the role of a new Roman governor during a relatively peaceful 200-year span.
Players start with a single settlement, but they'll have to expand and build a network of eternal cities. They'll start in Latium – the area around Rome in today's west-central Italy – with a Mediterranean climate and ruins from the past.

Further into the game, the governor's domain expands to Albion, a different environment with harsh cliffs, misty marshland and a new culture.

Maido in Peru tops World's 50 Best Restaurants list, Hong Kong's Wing, The Chairman place
For the 2025 edition of the World's 50 Best Restaurants awards, the annual event was held for the first time in Italy, at the historic Auditorium Giovanni Agnelli at the Lingotto Fiere exhibition centre in Turin. Maido, a Nikkei (Peruvian-Japanese) fine-dining spot in Lima helmed by chef Mitsuharu 'Micha' Tsumura, took home the top honour. The restaurant is no stranger to accolades from the 50 Best universe, having received top ranking four times on the Latin America edition of the list. 'I dream of making people happy,' said a visibly emotional Tsumura when taking to the stage. 'I think hospitality can do amazing things. They can make dreams come true, they can solve most problems that you think cannot be solved. I think that we should be an example for the world of what can be done and how we can bring things together with the power of food.' The winners of the 2025 edition of the World's 50 Best Restaurants celebrate in Turin, Italy. Ikoyi in London, helmed by Hong Kong-born chef Jeremy Chan, received the highest climber award, leaping from 42nd to 15th.

The wedding will take place over three days in late June, with events for the some 200 invited guests kept private. Two historic Venetian companies will add artisanal touches to the celebration: Rosa Salva, the city's oldest pastry maker that has been crafting doughnut-shaped fishermen's biscuits since 1876, and Laguna B, a design studio known for its distinctive handblown Murano glass prized by fashion and design clients. They include the bussolà buttery biscuit that was long a fisherman's staple, and small zaletti cookies, made from the Veneto region's cornmeal, flavoured with raisins and lemon zest. 'We try to maintain the old recipes,'' said Rosa Salva, whose family business includes a catering service and four locations in Venice's historic centre and one on the mainland. 'We do everything with love. It's a pleasure and a privilege.'' Pastry shop owner Andrea Rosa Salva poses outside his shop in Venice on June 12.
