BBC Breakfast hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt forced to pull live broadcast after ‘dead dog' shown on-screen

The experienced broadcasters interjected during a report from Stonehenge, where revellers had been marking the Summer Solstice. 3 BBC Breakfast hosts were forced to cut a live broadcast after a 'dead dog' appeared to be shown on-screen Credit: BBC 3 BBC show anchors Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were swift to intervene Credit: BBC 3 It came during reporter Peter Ruddock's live chat from Stonehenge Credit: BBC Reporter Peter Ruddock had been live on the scene since 2am in preparation for the sunset, along with thousands of others for the sunrise around 4.51am. As he gave a tour of the magnificent Stonehenge and it's Heel Stone and Stone Circle, he explained the significance of the historical event. The report then panned to pre-recorded interviews of those in attendance, before Peter was seen back on-screen in the field. The camera had paused on a black dog who was lying flat out on the grass in the heatwave. He was wrapped in a white cloth and facing a fence, with some suspecting it had sadly passed away. As the camera panned to the reporter, he seemed oblivious the worrying scenes were being shown. He said: "Special indeed, I've been asking everyone what are you going to do with that extra bit of sunshine? "As Naga said today is the day ..." before the live segment cut off completely. BBC Breakfast viewers saw the screen freeze before the hosts appeared back on-air to explain what was going on, after one fan remarked on X: "BBC Breakfast just had to cut off because they showed a sleeping looking 'dead dog' after the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge. "Peak Partridge." Awkward moment Naga smirks during segment about being 'appropriate at work' Charlie was then seen back in the studio and told BBC viewers: "OK, we should perhaps explain. "Problems with the line there. "The dog that Peter was looking at there is all well and good just a little tired, because we saw it breathing earlier on. "It was wrapped up to keep warm, that's all," before Naga interjected: "In case people are worried." Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast? The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are: Jon Kay - Since 2022 Sally Nugent - Since 2021 Charlie Stayt - Since 2006 Naga Munchetty - Since 2014 Carol Kirkwood - Since 1997 She then rounded off the episode before the closing credits rolled.

BBC axes Gaza doctors documentary over 'impartiality'

Gaza: Doctors Under Attack explored the destruction of the health service in Gaza under Israel's brutal bombardment, and was reportedly ready to be broadcast in February. We told how the documentary was shelved last month following the controversy around How to Survive a Warzone, which featured the son of a Hamas official. READ MORE: UK Government 'set to proscribe Palestine Action after RAF protest' The production firm behind Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, Basement Films, said at the time that the BBC had postponed airing their film until after a review into How to Survive a Warzone is complete. However, despite the fact that this review remains ongoing, the BBC has now officially scrapped plans to show the documentary after concluding that it "risked creating a perception of partiality" over the corporation's coverage of Israel and Gaza. In a statement published on Friday, the BBC said: 'Our aim was to find a way to air some of the material in our news programmes, in line with our impartiality standards, before the review was published. "For some weeks, the BBC has been working with Basement Films to find a way to tell the stories of these doctors on our platforms.' It added: 'Yesterday it became apparent that we have reached the end of the road with these discussions. "We have come to the conclusion that broadcasting this material risked creating a perception of partiality that would not meet the high standards that the public rightly expect of the BBC. "Impartiality is a core principle of BBC News. It is one of the reasons that we are the world's most trusted broadcaster." READ MORE: Presiding Officer to step down at Holyrood election The BBC said it was transferring ownership of the film material to Basement Films, and that the documentary had "not undergone the BBC's final pre-broadcast sign-off processes", as some reports had suggested. The corporation also "thank[ed" those who contributed to the documentary and said "we are sorry we could not tell their stories". The BBC has been increasingly accused of failing to report on Israel's assault on Gaza in an impartial manner. A report published this week by the Centre for Media Monitoring found that the corporation's coverage showed a "pattern of bias, double standards and silencing of Palestinian voices". It found that the word massacre(d) was used 18 times more frequently in the context of Israeli deaths than Palestinian deaths in BBC articles. Emotive terms such as 'atrocities', 'slaughter', 'barbaric', 'deadly', 'brutal' were used four times more often when reporting on Israeli victims, while 'murder(ed)' was used 220 times in the Israeli context and just once for Palestinians. The report analysed a total of 3873 articles and 32,092 TV and radio broadcasts between October 7, 2023 to October 7, 2024.

EastEnders Kat in turmoil after Alfie's departure as she 'gets close' to Phil

It's set to be a dramatic week for Kat Moon in next week's EastEnders as she's left worrying about how things are with Alfie, as well as being concerned for her ex, Phil It's been a huge week for Kat and Alfie in EastEnders this week, with the return of Kat's daughter Zoe Slater. However, Kat is completely unaware that Zoe returned to London - and that her husband, Alfie, has gone to Barcelona to follow her after she fled. Next week, she's left worrying about her lack of communication, while also being left concerned about her ex, Phil. ‌ It was a close call in scenes earlier this week, as Kat suspected something suspicious was going on in Stacey's flat. She opened the bedroom door, where Zoe was, although she'd already escaped out the window. She later told Stacey she was going to Barcelona, and now Alfie's gone to hopefully bring her back home. ‌ However, he told a huge lie to his new wife Kat, telling her that he was off to Australia to visit his brother Spencer. Although she came round to the idea in the end, Kat told Alfie that their relationship would be over for good if she finds out he's lying. Spoilers for next week reveal even more turmoil for Kat and Alfie as she's left is worrying about how things are with her husband Alfie Moon. She tries to confide in Jean Slater, Jean about her hurt over Alfie being incommunicado, but Jean refuses to forgive Kat for going into business with Kathy and Harvey. However, Alfie's lack of communication isn't the only thing concerning Kat, as she's left worried about her ex-husband Phil. Phil's worried about Nigel deteriorating amid his dementia diagnosis, and some of his actions next week leave Phil struggling. ‌ During a heart to heart, Kat realises her ex-husband is exhausted and in over his head as she suggests he gets help to care for Nigel. Jean is later left questioning Kat why she's spending so much time at Phil's place, as she insists it's nothing but platonic concern. Last week, Phil was seen giving Alfie an unlikely pep talk after he and Kat called the wedding off. He told Alfie that he was the one Kat always wanted as the two made amends and tied the knot. However, the couple's third marriage to each other hasn't got off on the best foot - starting off on a huge lie. Will Kat find out that Alfie's lying about her whereabouts? If so, how will she react? Will the pair really be over for good like she said? EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
