The UK coast boasts an array of stunning beaches, from the wild cliffs of Cornwall to the unspoiled sands on the Lleyn Peninsula, mirroring Mediterranean shores, to the picturesque West Sands Beach in St Andrews, Scotland.
Whether you're after a tranquil retreat or keen for a spot of adventure, Britain's coastline offers a wealth of sites for seaside exploration. Still, one particular beach has been singled out as resembling something straight out of a "fairy tale".
Highlighting Britain's most enchanting spots in a special series, travel expert @lotteboo3 took to TikTok to reveal a "magical" beach, a mere 90-minute drive from London, nestled along the Kentish coastline.
This coast, also boasting seaside towns likened to Spain's sunny Costa del Sol, harbours a secluded gem celebrated for its "dramatic chalk stacks, golden sands and hidden sea caves."
Lotte gleefully showcased Botany Bay in her TikTok footage, dubbing it "one of the UK's most photogenic beaches". Cradled between Broadstairs and Margate, Botany Bay serves as the northern tip of seven bays in Broadstairs.
Yet there lies a spellbinding secret with these sea caves, which only emerge at low tide, beckoning visitors to time their visits perfectly to witness this concealed spectacle, so checking tidal schedules is crucial when planning a journey to Botany Bay, reports the Express.
Furthermore, this "magical" coastline forms part of the Viking Coastal Trail, tracing the rugged Isle of Thanet in Kent, and featuring the dramatic chalk cliffs that Botany Bay is renowned for.
The majestic free-standing chalk stacks that "tower like castles" have emerged on the beach due to the erosion of the cliffs, creating a perfect environment for exploration with numerous rock pools scattered along the shore.
At low tide, caves concealed within the chalk cliffs become accessible, many of which were carved out by pirates and smugglers over 300 years ago.
Having been awarded Blue Flag status in 2023, it's also a favoured spot for swimming and surfing, not to mention its golden sands were showcased in the BBC mini-series D-Day: The Last Heroes.
During the peak season from May to September, lifeguards are stationed daily, and visitors can enjoy various cafes, restaurants, and the Captain Digby pub, which boasts an outdoor dining area with sea views.
Botany Bay is accessible via a scenic 45-minute coastal walk from Margate or Broadstairs, or a quick taxi ride from any nearby Thanet town in Kent.
For those driving, Lotte mentioned there's limited parking at the Botany Bay Hotel car park, which "fills up fast on sunny days".
Alternatively, parking is available at Kingsgate Bay or Joss Bay, both around a 20-minute stroll from the beach.

'I'm riding 1,000 miles to get to Glastonbury - people think I'm crazy'
One festivalgoer has taken his journey to Glastonbury to all new lengths as he's been cycling 100km a day for almost a month in a bid to get to Worthy Farm from Madrid, Spain The countdown to Glastonbury is fast approaching, with mere days to go before hundreds of thousands of festivalgoers pitch up their tents for five days of spectacular performances. While many will be travelling by car, train or coach, one man is so dedicated to the UK's biggest festival that he's riding a whopping 100km a day on his bike to get there! Ollie White, 25, started his lengthy journey at the end of May from Madrid, Spain, where he lives and works as a content creator for La Liga, the Spanish football league. Over the course of almost a month, he has ventured across majestic mountains, the biggest sand dune in Europe, serene coastlines and desert-like landscapes with just a backpack, a tent and his bicycle. In total, Ollie will travel over 1,600km, or 994 miles, to Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, racking up 62 miles a day. With just a few days to go until the gates open at Glastonbury on Wednesday, 25 June, at 8 am, Ollie has almost completed his trek and has been documenting his journey on TikTok and Instagram every day. In his most recent update on Sunday, 22 June, Ollie confirmed that he reached Plymouth before heading to Totnes, Devon, where he'd stay the night. He is hoping to reach Glastonbury by Tuesday, 24 June. When asked by the BBC why he opted to ride from Madrid to Worthy Farm, he simply said: "I have a ticket for Glastonbury, so why not cycle?" Speaking further about his experience, he also shared with the news outlet: "A lot of people think I'm crazy for doing this, but for me it doesn't seem too crazy. "It's just a challenge I've set myself and, at the end of the day, once you've done all the preparation, you just have to get on the bike each day and do the kilometres." He described his adventure as "absolutely incredible" and that "everything has been really positive". He's spent time camping alone in secluded, yet beautiful spots across Europe and the UK, while taking in nature and the incredible scenery during each leg of his journey. When he finally reaches his end location, Ollie has a list of performances lined up to watch during the weekend at Glastonbury, including Neil Young, Loyle Carner, Kneecap, Caribou, Scissor Sisters and Kaiser Chiefs. He adds that Neil Young has been a particularly good soundtrack while riding through endless countries.

Put chickpeas at the center of the plate with citrus and honey
The Greek island of Ikaria has a wealth of vegetable dishes, many of which call for lavish amounts of legumes, often braised with tomatoes in olive oil. Citrus and sugar — typically in the form of honey — also make frequent appearances, a sweet-savory hallmark of the cuisine that is used to transform otherwise simple dishes. During a trip to the island, Greek cooking expert Diane Kochilas introduced us to an ultra-simple yet remarkably delicious dish of chickpeas layered with tomatoes, herbs, orange and honey that is baked for a couple hours to meld and concentrate the flavors. In this recipe from our cookbook ' Milk Street 365: The All-Purpose Cookbook for Every Day of the Year,' we simmer canned chickpeas on the stovetop with many of the same ingredients. It's ready in under an hour, with the same rich, complex flavors found in the original. Don't forget to reserve some of the chickpea liquid before draining. The liquid lends the dish body and flavor that water cannot. The dish is best when made with a strong, dark honey, such as buckwheat, but a milder variety works, too. Orange blossom honey is a good option, as it echoes the citrus notes of the orange zest and juice. Serve with crusty bread and some briny feta alongside. Greek-Style Braised Chickpeas with Tomatoes and Orange Start to finish: 45 minutes Servings: 4 Ingredients: ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil, plus more to serve 2 tablespoons tomato paste 2 tablespoons honey, divided Three 15½-ounce cans chickpeas, drained, ¼ cup liquid reserved 28-ounce can diced tomatoes 1 medium red onion, halved and thinly sliced 3 medium garlic cloves, thinly sliced 5 bay leaves 1 sprig fresh rosemary 1 teaspoon grated orange zest, plus ¼ cup orange juice Kosher salt and ground black pepper 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano ½ cup lightly packed fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped Directions: In a large Dutch oven over medium, combine the oil, tomato paste and 1 tablespoon of the honey. Celebrity's not-so-new secret recipe that keeps passengers flooding back - as the UK's booming cruising market sails towards a £3 BILLION a year industry
As the lucrative UK cruising market continues to flourish, the biggest operators are desperate to find the secret sauce that keeps passengers returning time and time again. With the UK market alone expected to generate nearly £3billion this year – and the number of passengers expected to reach 3.2m by 2029 – it's little wonder they're all seeking that elusive edge. Is it the best-value drinks package? The latest luxury spa? Destinations with a difference? West End-standard entertainment? Well, here's the thing. As an up-and-coming cruiser with five fantastic trips since Covid, I think the secret is... good old-fashioned service! Our experience sailing on the Celebrity Apex was unlike anything we've experienced before. And with a curious 15-month-old in tow, that extra-special service made all the difference to our 11-night trip around the Mediterranean. None of it seemed forced, smiles seemed genuine and they couldn't do enough to help. So it's little wonder we've already booked a return on one of Celebrity's other ships for next summer. Our experience at dinner summed up why we quickly fell for the Apex. Feeling weary after travelling down to Southampton and getting unpacked, we found a wonderful corner table at Cyprus restaurant. A high-chair arrived in seconds and the maître d' couldn't have been more accommodating. Our toddler had his favourite pasta made to order and the next 90 minutes got our trip off to a brilliant start. But here's the thing – the maître d' then offered to reserve the same fantastic window table every night. We could choose from any menu on the ship (something all passengers can choose from). So when we walked in after a busy day, our table was ready, the high-chair was in place, the boy's pasta was on the way, and our favourite bottle of rosé was already chilling. It makes a huge difference when you're not scrabbling for a high chair and worrying how to feed a toddler off an adult menu. Food lovers will find plenty to enjoy onboard the Apex. With 29 restaurants, bars, and lounges to explore onboard – including Fine Cut Steakhouse to Raw on 5 and Eden – the variety and quality means you never feel like you're on rinse and repeat. Choose from a-la carte, gourmet comfort food, bar bites or the ever-changing buffet. The Celebrity Apex itself was built in 2020 at a cost of $1 billion, with the magnificent Magic Carpet - a cantilevered platform that moves up and down the side of the ship - serving as a bar, restaurant, and tender platform. It offers guests breathtaking views of the Mediterranean as you soar above the sea. It's the ideal place for a cocktail after a couple of hours in Apex's spa. The spa offers over 120 different treatments, including destination-inspired therapies, advanced beauty treatments, and wellness programs. Options range from aroma spa seaweed massages to restorative salt stone massages. The SEA Thermal Suite boasts eight distinctive therapeutic experiences and the Persian Garden offers aromatic steam and tropical rain showers. Entertainment on the Celebrity Apex is nothing short of spectacular. The ship offers a range of activities and performances to suit every taste. From quiet lounges to vibrant shows in the Eden complex, there's something for everyone. A nice touch on Apex – and another plus point to make it out from other operators – is that you don't need to book for the big shows. This means you can decide at the last minute and not be bound by a timetable. The daily entertainment schedule was full and varied. We always had options – whether a game of Deal or No Deal, enjoying one of the talks or the bands on the smaller stages. As parents of a young boy, we were a little apprehensive about a 12-day cruise. Would there be enough to entertain him, especially with a handful of at-sea days. We needn't have worried. The Camp at Sea offers dozens of activities tailored to different age groups. Teenagers can enjoy their own space at the Teen Club – including silent discos and video game tournaments - and it looked busy from the beginning to end of our sailing. But the biggest plus point was how different age groups were given their own slots in the Camp. So our little one was with toddlers his own age, without us worrying about different children bumping into him or hogging the toys. Twice a day we spent a couple of hours playing with him, enjoying the many toys in a colourful, safe, ultra-clean play area. And again, coming back to our overall takeaway from Apex – the Camp at Sea staff were amazing. They remembered our boy's name every time we turned up, spoiling him rotten and they simply couldn't do enough. We noticed this with every child who came through the doors – and all left beaming at the end of their session. The experience left us keen to book again, knowing he'd be happy wherever we rock up to our next Celebrity cruise. On this trip we docked at Vigo, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Madeira and Coruna. (CHECK). Madeira was by far our favourite, with beautiful coastal walks and a modern, clean, sun-drenched island. It had everything and we'll certainly be back – and next time there might be a quick visit to the Cristiano Ronaldo museum, built in homage to the island's famous son. Back on board and, refreshingly, it felt like we had plenty of room in our stateroom – even with a cot. Apex has 1,473 staterooms – and for those seeking an even more exclusive experience, The Retreat offers suite guests private dining, a dedicated lounge, and a sundeck and, magnificent two-story Edge Villas, each with their own private terrace and plunge pool. With a crew of 1,320 attending up to 3,405 passengers, personalized service is guaranteed and Apex never seemed too busy. Celebrity Apex offers a welcoming environment for children with special needs, including sensory-friendly films, toys, and dietary menu options. Autism-friendly services like priority check-in and boarding are also available. And our friends on board found Apex perfect for their severely-disabled daughter, with all her needs catered for with a smile. But that was no surprise… that can't-do-enough attitude and consistently-brilliant service explains why so many passengers we spoke to were repeat customers. As we will be next year.
