OC Transpo to offer free service on Canada Day as part of summer schedule

OC Transpo will be offering free service on Canada Day and extending O-Train Line 2 and Line 4 service hours on July 1 and on Sundays during Ottawa Bluesfest.
Transit Services general manager Renée Amilcar outlined the summer service changes in a memo to councillors Tuesday morning, which includes changes to service for major events.
On Canada Day, service will be free all day on OC Transpo buses and O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4. Amilcar says Line 1 will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m., with enhanced frequency in the evening. Lines 2 and 4 will operate from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., one hour longer than normal.
Additional buses will supplement service levels 'where needed,' Amilcar said.
For Ottawa Bluesfest, service on O-Train Lines 1, 2 and 4 will be extended in the evening on Sundays to end at midnight.
'Line 1 will operate with enhanced frequency in the evening on event days,' Amilcar said. 'Additional buses will supplement service levels where needed.'
Amilcar reminds people heading to Bluesfest that transit fares to and from the event are included with your ticket.
Fans with tickets to Redblacks games will also have a transit fare included with the ticket to the game.

Construction adjustments:
Route 14 St-Laurent will be detoured along Montreal Road and Vanier Parkway to accommodate a watermain replacement project on McArthur Avenue between North River Road and Vanier Parkway
Route 66 will be detoured off Carling Avenue between Herzberg Road and Moodie Drive
Seasonal service changes
Amilcar says the 600-series school routes will not run during the summer
Route 25 will have a minor reduction to reflect reduced ridership levels normally seen on this route during the summer.
Route 125 to the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Route 139 to Petrie Island will return to the summer. Amilcar says weekend service to the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum will be provided by an extension on Route 8
Minor schedule adjustments will be made on Route 110 seven days a week, and on Routes 8, 33, 63, 70, and 74 on Sundays.

In addition, park 'n' ride shuttle buses will operate from Devonshire Mall beginning at approximately 6 p.m. and continuing until 9:30 p.m. Return shuttles will depart immediately following the fireworks, running until approximately 12:15 a.m. or until all passengers in line have boarded a bus back to their vehicle at Devonshire Mall. This annual event includes our Stuff the Transit Windsor Bus initiative—visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to help support local food banks. Also, avoid the annual parking issues and road closures by enjoying the free ride from Devonshire Mall to the Windsor riverfront and back. Shuttles leave Devonshire Mall (3100 Howard Avenue) starting at 6 p.m. from Sydney Avenue, and the last shuttle will return to the mall from a pickup location across from the Windsor Arena on McDougall Street near Wyandotte Street West directly after the fireworks until midnight. O-Train running at reduced speeds as temperature soars above 30 C

(Natalie van Rooy/CTV News Ottawa) Your train trip may be a little slower today, as both OC Transpo and VIA Rail implement speed restrictions due to the hot weather. A heat warning remains in effect for Ottawa today, with the temperature expected to hit 36 C. OC Transpo has temporary speed restrictions on O-Train Line 1, Line 2 and Line 4 due to the hot weather, the transit service tells CTV News Ottawa. OC Transpo says when the temperature climbs above 30 C, procedures are in place to safely run trains on above-round sections of the track. 'Safety is paramount and we take numerous precautions to ensure our trains and rail are protected during extreme temperatures,' OC Transpo says on its website. 'All railroads can experience sun kinks, and at OC Transpo we have procedures in place that allow us to safely operate the O-Train.' Sun kinks are when a piece of track warps, bends or buckles during the extreme heat. OC Transpo says slowing down the train on above-ground sections of the train will protect the trains and decrease the chances of sun kinks expanding and becoming worse. 'When the temperature drops below 30 degrees Celsius, trains will return to their normal speeds,' the transit service says. Maintenance staff will also be increasing inspections on Line 1, Line 2 and Line 4. VIA Rail VIA Rail is warning travellers may experience delays on trains operating from Ottawa to Montreal and Toronto due to the heat. The Crown corporation says delays are possible on all trains operating on the Windsor-Quebec City corridor. 'For safety purposes, the railway infrastructure owner could be forced to impose speed restrictions, which could result in delays at departure or on route,' VIA Rail said on X.
