Govinda
once reignited discussions around the casting of the 1997 blockbuster '
Judwaa
'. In an old interview, Govinda shared that
Salman Khan
had directly asked him to walk away from the project, even after filming had already begun.
In the 2019 interview with Bollywood Hungama, Govinda said, 'Uss time pe main Judwaa kar raha tha aur kisi din
Salman
ne mujhe phone lagaya, 2-3 baje, aur kaha ki 'Chichi Bhaiya, aap kitni hit doge yaar?' Maine bola, kya hua? Woh bola, 'Woh jo picture aap kar rahe ho, Judwaa, woh aap band kar dijiye aur woh mujhe de dijiye' (Govinda brother, how many hit films will you give? When I asked him what happened, Salman said, 'The movie you are working on, Judwaa, stop filming it and let me take over your role').'
Salman Praises Dharam Ji Deeply
He further added, '(Salman said) 'Director (
David Dhawan
) bhi aapko mujhe dena padega. Producer (Sajid Nadiadwala) bhi maine aap hi ka le liya hai'. Toh woh chalti film wahan pe thehra di gayi hai, rok di gayi aur bandh kar di gayi. Aur woh Salman ko de di gayi thi (Salman said he would work with the same director and producer. So the film, which was already in production, was halted, shelved, and eventually handed over to Salman).'
Govinda and David Dhawan were once a celebrated actor-director duo in Bollywood, delivering a string of hits in the 1990s and early 2000s. However, their professional relationship reportedly turned sour after David cast
Rishi Kapoor
in 'Chashme Baddoor' (2013), a role Govinda had allegedly expected.
The
1997 film
'Judwaa' featured Salman Khan in a double role as Raja and Prem Malhotra, with
Karisma Kapoor
and Rambha playing the female leads. Directed by David Dhawan, it was a remake of the 1994 Telugu film 'Hello Brother', starring Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishnan, and Soundarya.

Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda booked for remarks ‘likening Pakistan to tribals'

The Hyderabad police have booked Telugu actor Vijay Deverakonda under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for an alleged derogatory statement he made on tribals at a public event. The actor allegedly made the comments during a promotional event for a film in April this year. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, he likened Pakistan to a tribal community at the event. The Tribal Welfare Association of Telangana referenced the comment and filed a complaint at Hyderabad's Raidurgam police station against Deverakonda on June 17. 'The complaint was studied and case booked as it is a serious offence to pass disparaging remarks against any caste or tribe,' a Telangana police official told the Indian Express. On Sunday, Deverakonda issued a public apology and clarification. He wrote, 'The word tribe, as I used it, was meant in the historical and dictionary sense – referring to a time centuries ago when human society globally was organised into tribes and clans, often in conflict. It was never a reference to the Scheduled Tribes classification, which was introduced during colonial and post-colonial India and formalised only in the mid-20th century – not even 100 years ago.' 'There was no intention to hurt or target any community, especially our Scheduled Tribes, who I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country,' he wrote. 'If any part of my message was misunderstood or hurtful, I express my sincere regret. My only aim was to speak of peace, progress, and togetherness. I remain committed to using my platform to uplift and unify — never to divide.' Deverakonda, among the highest-paid actors in the Telugu film industry, rose to prominence after starring as the lead in Pelli Choopulu (2016) and Arjun Reddy (2017). In 2019, he launched his own production house called King of the Hill Entertainment.

'Bollywood has turned cultural characters into Buffoons': Pawan Kalyan slams Hindi Cinema, praises South's cultural integrity

Picture Credit: X Tollywood superstar and newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan , has stirred conversation with his candid take on the current state of Indian cinema . In a recent interview with Organizer Weekly, the actor-turned-politician expressed disappointment with what he sees as Bollywood's gradual detachment from Indian cultural roots, contrasting it with the cultural sincerity he believes South Indian cinema continues to uphold. While discussing how filmmaking has evolved across the country, Pawan Kalyan criticised Bollywood for being overly influenced by globalisation and commercialism. He remarked: "Over time, it changed due to filmmakers that came from different generations. Especially, Hindi cinema was influenced by globalisation. Since then, there are some movies which created buffoonery out of culturally connected characters." The 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' star pointed out that South Indian films—including those from Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam industries—have managed to stay more deeply rooted in Indian traditions and values. He praised these regional cinemas for preserving "Bharateeyata" (Indianness) amidst the growing commercial pressures of the entertainment world. "Nowadays, South Indian films are representing Indian culture more. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What She Did Mid-Air Left Passengers Speechless medalmerit Learn More Undo It has been done in Hindi cinema for a certain period. For example, if you see Dangal, it represents Indian culture," he added. While not dismissing Bollywood entirely, Pawan acknowledged rare exceptions like Aamir Khan's Dangal, which he described as a "rooted film with a connection to Indian culture." However, he lamented that such films have become increasingly rare in the Hindi film landscape. A Cultural Standpoint from a Political Powerhouse Now holding a key political position in Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan's opinions carry significant weight both within and beyond the entertainment industry. His statements underline a growing sentiment among regional film enthusiasts who believe that mainstream Hindi cinema has strayed too far from Indian ethos in the pursuit of global appeal. On the Acting Front: Big Releases Ahead Despite his political responsibilities, Pawan Kalyan remains active in films. His long-awaited period action drama 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' is finally slated to release on July 24, 2025. Fans can also look forward to his gangster drama 'They Call Him OG', which hits theatres on September 25, 2025. Additionally, he is currently filming the much-anticipated cop drama 'Ustaad Bhagat Singh.' With bold opinions and blockbuster projects on the horizon, Pawan Kalyan continues to command attention—both as a cinematic force and a political voice deeply rooted in Indian values.
