Following family legacy, officer cadet Digvijay Dhayal joins Indian Army
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 14 (ANI): The Spring Term 2025 Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun marked a moment of pride for the Dhayal family, as Officer Cadet Digvijay Dhayal marched forward to join the Indian Army, following in the footsteps of his father and twin sister.
Officer Cadet Digvijay Dhayal, whose twin sister and father are already serving in the Army, expressed pride and admiration as he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces.
'I like that she is my senior; we are twins... I will always be proud to salute her. Of course, she was here earlier than I was, so she can always be a guide. It's a very proud moment,' Digvijay told ANI.
His twin sister, Divya Dhayal, currently serving in the Army, shared her joy on the occasion.
She stated, 'I am happy!... We took the same path, studied at the same college, and have entered the same occupation. I feel proud and happy. He got what he wanted.'
Their father, VS Dhayal, highlighted the family's association with the Armed Forces, saying that he and his elder brother were the first in the family to join the Indian Army; however, his brother sacrificed his life while serving on the line of duty.
VS Dhayal asserted, 'I have always told my children that no other job can give you the respect and the satisfaction the Army can provide. In my family, my brother and I joined the Indian Army. In 1998, my elder brother sacrificed his life on the line of duty while fighting with the militants. I was also in Kashmir. Now my children have joined. I am very happy,' he said.
Earlier today, the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Spring Term 2025 was conducted at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Uttarakhand's Dehradun.
Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, was the Reviewing Officer at the Passing Out Parade. Lt General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, presented medals to Officer Cadets.
The coveted award of the Sword of Honour was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra. Gold Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit was presented to Academy Under Officer Ronit Ranjan Nayak.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Second in the Order of Merit was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant Anni Nehra. Bronze Medal for the Officer Cadet standing Third in the Order of Merit was presented to Battalion Under Officer Anurag Verma.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from the Technical Graduate Course was presented to Sergeant Akash Bhadouriya.
Silver Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from the Technical Entry Scheme (TES-45) was presented to Wing Cadet Quarter Master Kapil.
Medal for the Officer Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from a Foreign Country was presented to Foreign Officer Cadet Nishan Balami (Nepal).
Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Keren Company for standing Overall First amongst 12 companies for the Spring Term 2025.
451 cadets participated in the passing out parade from India and abroad, will become part of their respective countries' army as officers. These include 419 cadets of the Indian Army and 32 foreign cadets.
The Indian Military Academy was established on 1 October 1932. So far, more than 65 thousand cadets have passed out from this prestigious institute. These also include cadets from 34 friendly countries. (ANI)

They were joined by more than 1,000 civilians, including students from nearby schools and colleges. Yoga sessions organised by Isha Foundation also saw widespread participation across other locations. In Sriganganagar in Rajasthan, 1,500 defence personnel took part, while 900 Air Force personnel joined the session at the Jodhpur Airbase. Similarly, around 500 Army personnel participated in a session conducted in Pune, and 400 participated at Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur. At the iconic Adiyogi in Coimbatore, over 200 personnel from the Indian Air Force (Redfields and Sulur Wing 43), the Army's 35th Regiment (Madukkarai), and the Rapid Action Force (Vellalore) came together for a powerful group yoga session conducted by an Isha-trained instructor. Gujarat Sahitya Academy honours top literary talent in Sanskrit
Ahmedabad: The Sanskrit Sahitya Academy, under the aegis of Gujarat Sahitya Academy, on Friday announced literary awards for 2024. Dr Priti Pancholi was conferred the Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar while Dr Naitikkumar Prajapati was honoured with the Yuva Gaurav Puraskar. The Vaid Shastra Pandit Samman went to Ghanshyamrai Gor, Vaidehi Adhyaru and Nandkishore Mehta while the Dharmendra Memakiya family was recognised with the Sanskrit Kutumb Samman. Vitthal Vagadiya was awarded the Sanskrit Samman. The Academy general secretary announced that the awards will be handed over to the winners soon.

Right from the outset, he stood out for his discipline and diligence The olive green uniform that once sparked a childhood dream has now become a symbol of hard-earned achievement for Army Lieutenant Punit Mankotia. Hailing from the mountainous terrains of Himachal's Kangra district, this young man's extraordinary journey from a gunner to a commissioned officer in the Indian Army is an inspiring tale of determination, discipline, and unshakable resolve. For Punit, the dream of donning the Indian Army uniform was seeded early. Born into a family steeped in military tradition, patriotism came naturally. His father, a retired Naib Subedar from the Signal Corps, instilled in him the core values of discipline, duty, and honour. These were not just lessons, but a way of life in the Mankotia household. With two elder brothers also in uniform, Punit's path seemed almost destined, but never easy. In December 2009, Punit joined the Indian Army as a gunner. Right from the outset, he stood out for his discipline and diligence. During his time at the School of Artillery in Deolali, he earned top honours in both Basic and Advanced courses – a testament to his sharp mind and technical acumen. His career progressed steadily, with postings in the 625 SATA Battery and later as Regimental Havildar Major (RHM), where he shouldered leadership responsibilities with competence and care. Eventually, he became a technical instructor – passing on his expertise to the next generation of soldiers. His superiors consistently noted his commitment and leadership, but Punit had his eyes set on a bigger dream – becoming an officer. In 2023, Punit's service extended beyond national borders when he was deployed as part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) on the tense Syria-Israel border. Representing India on this international platform, he earned commendation from the Force Commander – a rare and prestigious recognition that added another feather to his cap. Despite his credentials and accolades, Punit's path to becoming an officer wasn't smooth. He appeared twice for the Army's Special Commissioned Officers (SCO) entry but was unable to clear. While many might have given up, Punit refused to surrender to disappointment. On his third attempt, success finally came knocking. He cleared the selection process and earned the rank of Lieutenant, a moment that marked not just personal victory, but the fulfillment of a lifelong promise to his family and himself. Now a commissioned officer, Lieutenant Punit Mankotia's story is one of perseverance and pride. His rise from the ranks underscores a vital message – that one's origins do not limit one's destiny.
